The very first Doctor played by the Mushroom Kingdoms resident Mad Scientist Professor Elvin Gadd

The very first Doctor needed to be someone elderly, intelligent, with a spark of eccentricity, a bit of madness about him and be quite ancient in years.

Professor E.Gadd fits the bill perfectly, especially being an eccentric old scientist who tends to take things easy and leaves the action up to a younger, more fitter person. The Doctors counter being Ian, Steven and Ben, while E.Gadd's has always been Luigi.

The first Doctor himself is possibly the Doctor to have the most range of character. At first he was very grumpy and stern like you'd imagine an old man, he was a person who on the face of it just wanted to be in charge, who always thought he was right and everyone else was wrong, and once even thought about killing an injured person so his party could get away from danger faster.

He at first didn't like company either, though he first travelled with his Granddaughter Susan he didn't like anyone else in the TARDIS. But they were soon intruded upon by a pair of young school teachers Ian and Barbara who wanted to know about Susan whom had been going to their school for a few months, Coal Hill School, and the pair had stumbled into the TARDIS before it took off with them all inside. But often on their journey this Doctor just wanted to shove Ian and Barbara out of the TARDIS and slam the doors to abandon them wherever and whenever they were, but mostly he resisted the urge probably because of Susan who was much gentler than he was at the time. (A lot of his dark sterness I'd chaulk up to the Doctor trying to protect himself and Susan from danger and is mostly an act so he could be a good influence for Susan.) But when Susan left the TARDIS the Doctor started to mellow, he became less stern and even started to enjoy himself and the company of Ian and Barbara. It got to the point where at the end of his run he was a jolly, kind hearted, sweet old man with a thirst of knowledge and a craving for adventure and mental stimulation in seeking out evil and destroying it, along with that he'd also developed a need to show off to his companions.

This Doctor set out for the universe with the intent on studying it, however the more he travelled the more evil he saw in the universe and how dangerous and dark it could be, but also saw the beauty and marvel of it all from both a poetic and scientific perspective. In his travels he gained the insight that the wonders of the universe, though beautiful itself had extra significance if he had someone else to share them with, and once Susan was gone he only had Ian and Barbara though more companions would join the crew later. Even when he thought he was going to be travelling alone he considered just giving up and returning to his home planet rather than travel alone in his unruly TARDIS. But thankfully he always had companions to drive him forward and keep his spirits up.

This Doctor had grown from a cold old man who shunned his travelling companions (baring Susan) and slowly became a much sweeter old man who really didn't want to be alone at all in this gigantic universe, even to the point where he was reluctant to see any of his companions leave him for good. But there was always someone else with him to continue on his adventures in Time and Space.

Sadly this was not to last, as his old body was already wearing out in the first episode, and during one adventure he collapsed in the TARDIS his life ebbing away. But thanks to his mysterious TimeLord powers his body regenerated itself into a much younger form, one that could be more active, more involved and more suited for his need for adventure.

As his companions watched the first Doctor faded away forever and the second Doctor was born.

It's been a while but the first 12 incarnations of the Doctor are done. Now for the 12th and at this time (08/October/2014) the current Doctor.
