Description
My GOODNESS, this took all day....@_@ But nonetheless, one day was all it took. Not to mention, had to tear the paper out of the sketchbook, since it was bigger than the scanner area. AND trying to scan it in regularly made for a reeeeeeally crappy quality. Luckily, I think the characters present are distinguishable enough from each other to not need much digitional editing! That is reserved for the REAL clusterfucks that would otherwise give one lots of grief trying to tell where the pic starts and ends. XDANYWAY, quick summaries!
I'd have made this more complete but...I'm all out of steam for tonight. I dunno if I'll have much chance to edit this later so...here it is for now!
As many students as I could muster up in one sitting!
Thoughts? Additions? Any of the ones that I made myself that you'd be interested in co-owning? Cuz I could surely do that!
EDIT: FINALLY...THEY'RE ALL DONE! @_@
--------------------------
Kazwellor Roswaal (Half-Elf)
[The Chosen One] - A teacher's pet whose parents are professors at the Academy, his former quiet and studious life comes to an end when he comes back from the Gizmo Guild hailed as a hero. Much to his dismay, as he finds himself surrounded by people who want to know more about him. And...things change again when he begins sharing his study space with someone else.
Suki (Kasha-Nekomimi)
[The Broken Bird] - After several years of putting up a ferocious front, she finds herself weary, struggling to maintain her own facade simply because she feels she has no choice. So...it is with Kaz's kindness that her damaged heart will begin to heal. For she once had a family. She knew what it felt like to be loved...and misses that dearly.
Zakary Fenkas (High Elf)
[The New Guy] - A new face at Empyrean Academy who has no context for any of the rumors floating around, he befriends Kaz VERY quickly, becoming "Nerds of a Feather" with him, and is perfectly willing to give Suki a chance at friendship. He just needs to know the ins and outs of the Academy with Kaz's help.
Justinian III (Birdfolk)
[The Self-Proclaimed Rival] - Justinian had worked hard to get where he is now. He had studied like hell, and had gotten up to the level of Ordo 6. Except Kaz took all the glory without even trying...so Justinian will try his damnedest to prove this point: Kaz isn't all that great. And he'll do it through entirely fair means, just to make himself that much more superior to him!
Zereth (Dragon)
[The Student Teacher] - Zereth is a student who had worked his way up to magical talent, being born with LESS inherent gifts than other dragons. And because he wants to one day be a disciple of King Norbert's, or even a royal mage, he practices his ability to guide and mentor others. Although sometimes his insistence on educating others CAN come off as patronizing.
Shizo Yamazaki (Yokai (Yamajiji))
[The Rambler] - Some people mistake this guy for an old man. Truth be told, he does kind of act like one, often having many life stories to recount, philosophies that he props up time to time, among other things...all of which he will share, with a soft, non-aneurysm-inducing voice unusual for a Yamajiji.
Baddington Bertholamew (Cynocephalus)
[The Loyal Prefect] - Few students can uphold the school rules better than Baddington. Or as others call him, "Baddie", "Badass", or even just "Bad". Beautifully groomed, popular and wealthy, with a pedigree to prove his lineage, he is pretty much every student's role model here...which is why he keeps a close eye on Kaz, to be sure he's making a good example of himself.
---------------------------
Lorenz Lighton (Birdfolk)
[The Keet] - Next to Shizo, this one is KINDA similar, in that he's very curious of Kaz and what life was like outside of their monotonously safe abode in the academy. Except Lorenz is...kinda weird. He tends to ask a lot of dumb and inane questions, is SUPER hyper, and he does have various "feminine" interests (i.e. sewing, baking, pink clothes)...Kaz can hardly keep up with his energy.
Oodl El-Vellesk (Illithid)
[The Smartass Bookworm] - She's one of the smartest students in the class, and as a result, she tends to sass and snark at people a LOT. In general, she seems to have a somewhat apathetic attitude towards things in life that are otherwise amazing or surprising. Think Sucy from Little Witch Academia! Is a jerk, talks like a jerk, does jerky things while avoiding penalties, and is completely fine with it.
Annuna-Li (Aqrabuamelu)
[The Badass Princess] - As a member of the esteemed race of half-human, half-scorpion warriors known as the Aqrabuamelu, and a champion of Archery sports, she came from a long lineage of Aqrabuamelu who guarded kings and castles, and even the gates to other worlds according to legends! Annuna-Li seeks to uphold her bloodline's legacy, having a fierce competitive streak, but ultimately a fair one.
Baena (Half-Demon)
[The Shy Girl] - She was born under quite unfortunate circumstances. While Baena's single mother does love her...Baena can't help but feel unwanted, knowing the truth. Feeling like a mistake. Like she's hideous. To her, she knows Empyrean as the only place left to accept her. Her two heads are merely extensions of herself containing parts of her personality, every bit as self-conscious as the rest of her.
Maleia Ola (Menehune)
[The Dancer] - A beautiful and supple-bodied performer, Maleia is well-learned in many forms of traditional dance. However, her free spirit and rebellious attitude has also gotten her to take up learning modern, "new generation" dances and arts as well. She's very creative, and does not want other's sensibilities to impede, censor, or muddle her work's meaning..
Nara (Sphinx)
[The Sassiest Sphinx]
Sphinxes are artificially created by the Netjeru, mostly as guardians! And...Nara is currently too small and weak to guard much of anything. So she's been sent here to brush up on her magic. However, what she lacks in strength, she makes up for with dry humor, a sharp mind that LOVES to be challenged, and a very special love of making puns. Especially around people who can't stand them.
Phoebus (Unicorn)
[The Lover Boy] - A modest and even somewhat shy young Unicorn, he has an attraction to only one fair maiden. But one that pushes him to be the best version of himself, physically and mentally. Even learning how to transform into a human! Only question? Who IS he in love with? He hasn't answered yet!
------------------------------
Adelaide Su-Marienne (Gorgades)
[The Ojou] - A Gorgades who's been adopted into a rich family, she's always been well-groomed to be a proper and beautiful lady, even with the fur all over her body. As of now, she's quite timid of being among the lower class she knows nothing about, and really just wants to fit in, despite her clumsy social skills. She thinks a good way to do that is to wow other students with shows of luxury and splendor...kind of unaware that this just makes people jealous of her, and NOT in a good way.
Lyyras (Centaur/High Elf Hybrid)
[The Serenade] - A "New Age Male" Centaur, as they call it. hr has the genes of a High Elf in his blood. This translates to a talent for singing, musical instruments, archery, and poetry. Graceful to a fault, being a charmer to girls, and an inspiration to boys, he surrounds himself with adoring peers, and shows the world what beauty his arts can bring. Although...he gets surprisingly awkward when asked to have an in-depth one-on-one discussion.
Chitarra (Pengaloon)
[The Chill Party Girl] - Pengaloons are a rare sight on the Ascended Kingdoms, but simply incredible at magic. And as a result, Chitarra manages to coast by at Empyrean Academy, including schoolwork, projects AND exams! So she spends her free-time partying it up, and enjoying many hedonistic pleasures. Food, drink, sex, dancing, playing pool...and chilling out. She can afford to do so, after all.
Sydnee Chloria (Animalfolk (Frog))
[The Theorist] - The resident "Crazy Frog" of Empyrean, she thinks of herself as having a perfect grip of how things REALLY work on Cauldron. The kind of student who looks into things way too deeply, jumps to conclusions, and calls the other Sheeple (no offense to actual Sheeple) for disregarding obvious truths! For the most part...people let her make her theories, simply out of morbid curiosity, and because the theories are actually...strangely hilarious to listen to.
Elowin Farlandriel (High Elf)
[The Expert Mage] - Among the top percentage at the school in all major respects, right up there in league with Justinian III, Hisoka and Melissa Springwaters, he only has so much left to go until he becomes an Ordo 7. But while he can, he makes a noble and beloved hero out of himself...to personally atone for the sins of his parents, since they were avid Elvish Empire supporters, and slave-owners. Something he feels immensely guilty of, even if it isn't his fault.
Hawthorne (Pixie)
[The Curiously Morbid] - Unusually for a Pixie, rather than make pranks on others...he much prefers to simply say awful things to make others recoil in horror. All with a smile on his face! The kind of stuff that makes others think something's wrong with him. Also shown to become drawn to bad things happen at school out of sheer morbid curiosity.
Noah McQuinn (Sheeple)
[The Choir Cutie] - His musical talent is well-known at the school, manifesting in the form of truly beautiful and melodious singing. He has been inspired to pursue this by none other than Lyyras, to have something else in his life other than getting bullied for being "girly". Pink hair and wool, short horns, doesn't matter! He has decided to embrace it, and love himself regardless.
-----------------------------
Neil Blues (Quirk-Human)
[The Cool Kid] - A Quirk Human, whose quirk is conjuring energy "pixels" that can form together to take various shapes for offensive purposes. And collecting small bits of life energy from downed opponents in the form of "coins" to empower his abilities until the end of a battle! Although despite this, he isn't really much of a fighter, preferring instead to try learning magic for the daily convenience of existing in a magical world. And learning the "sacred" art of playing Gazing Games in his free time! And hangin' out with his girlfriend too. Not to mention, a good portion of Empyrean students think of him as a "Cool Kid". If only they knew. XD
Aisha (Bake-Nekomimi)
[The Hot and Pink] - A Bake-Nekomimi, whose main magic specialty is Pink Fire magic! Specifically, a sort of Pink Flame that doesn't burn, but it has the effect of stimulating people's nerves. She can cause them lots of terrible pain, or great body-wide relief, or relaxation. Among other things. AND with a Bakeneko Form resembling a sort of pink panther! Albeit for a long time, she shared the same sentimentality of HSIS!Aisha, feeling like simply another nameless face in the kitty-crowd. Really, among Bake-Nekomimi standards, she was nothing special...until she met Neil and fell in love with him! Nowadays, the two are hardly seen apart, and love each other dearly!
Esmee Latimer (Glowgal)
[The Fashion Snob] - One of many Glowgal steeped in the Insect Kingdom's avid fashion craze, she's taken it too far. Declaring her standards higher than everyone else's, and regarding everyone else in disgust, the other Glowgals, sick of her attitude, pretty much sent her to Empyrean to get rid of her. And to have her learn something on the way....
Charla (Naga)
[The Brilliant But Lazy] - Her family is completely overenthusiastic about things, and has tried frequently pushing her into greatness in the past. They know she has the brains for it after all. So, left to her own devices...she treats her gig at Empyrean as a vacation, and does JUST enough to keep her grades average. No more. No less. Just enough to get her family off her back.
Darius Stonewall (Minotaur/Centaur Hybrid) (Belongs to )
[The Gentleman Giant] - A man of brain and brawn, he has an inherent talent for an ability called "Rage Arsenal". Yet even then, he is more of a lover, not a fighter, and has instead pooled his efforts to specializing in Magical Armament, to be helpful to others as opposed to just destructive. He can charms the ladies with his looks, manners, and intellect, without even trying! But those who pique his interests more are the ones who DON'T flock to him. Namely...shy girls, and strong girls.
Keone Kanekalau (Menehune)
[The Muscle-Man] - Among many Menehune whose parents were victimized by the Elvish Empire, he has been raised to hold his masculinity in extremely high esteem. Working out constantly, as well as sharpening his magical skills, and keeping his academic mind equally sharp, he admittedly gets easily offended. But responds to criticisms by bettering himself however he can.
-----------------------------
EVERY CHARACTER BELOW THIS LINE BELONGS TO
Thearina (Catfolk)
[The (Former) Electromantist's Granddaughter] - When she first came to the school she wasn't as popular as she was now. She eventually gained her popularity by befriending Natsu and his group and eventually raised through the ranks to become a psuedo-leader after she asked out Julius, another member, to a dance. She can sometimes come off as rude, but means no harm.
Julius (Swanman)
[The Pretty Jock] - Julius has always been pretty popular, both for his water magic and how friendly he despite how he looks. He doesn't let the fact that's he's not big and muscular like other Swanman get in the way, because he still had the ability to learn what bigger Swanman couldn't. He's also lucky because Thearina has a strong dislike of muscular men from Ziz knows where.
Hisoka (Kitsune)
[The Academic Rival] - At the top of his class academically, Jisoka has made himsepf out to be one of the best in the school. His family was very strick on him and didn't want him to shame their name, so they basically molded him into who he is today. He has a rivalry with Mel, because of both their positions.
Melissa Springwaters (Vulpin)
[The Sporty Rival] - The best at any sport in the entire academy, better than even Annuna-Li, Melissa makes sure she dominates all -- on the field, since she's not a jerk. She did this originally to impress her deadbeat father who only came around for her once in a while, but now does it solely for herself. She has a rivalry with Hisoka due to their positions and lies to herself about not liking Hisoka's teasing.
Delphselia (Centaur)
[The Crude Jack-Ass] - A Centuar women who doesn't look up to New-Aged Centuars, but rather Old-Aged one. Neglected by her mother and grandmother when her sisters were born, she immediately took after her Old-Aged grandfather who decided to turn her against her family by giving her what she wanted. Now she's a highly skilled mage in training who likes to pick on students (especially girls) she doesn't like.
Sqelch (Sturni)
[The Skilled Pervert] - Oddly enough, this Sturni is rather skilled when it comes to magic. Being the only child in her family not to turn out as a bum or in jail (much to her mother's, who didn't want her, dismay), she was immediately enrolled by her proud father into Empyrean. As she instantly got there, she started to go after the pretty boys of the school and she solidified her position as the school's only female pervert.
-------------------------------
Altair (Fruit Vampire)
[The Calm Confidant] - Known for his calmness and helpfulness, Altair is the most down to earth student in all of Empyrean. He's a pacifist who's learning calming magic in order to never have to fight anyone who starts a conflict with him. He's become someone to talk to or a shoulder to cry on for most the school.
Lewis Gallagher (Sheeple)
[The Shy Healer] - Lewis came to Empyrean with his brother, Wayne. Only his brother was interested in magic, while he only came to Empyrean because his brother is the only family member he has left since his mother's death and father's abandonment. He eventually settled for learning healing magic because all he truly wants to do is help people.
Wayne Gallagher (Sheeple
[The Cold (Former) Apprentice] - Wayne is a praticer of Electromancy and was originally an apprentice of Thearina's grandfather until he passed away of old age. He's now know as a rather skilled Electromantist at the Academy, but has also become cold at the death of his master. He never takes interest into others unless they are really interesting to him.
Hiroshi (Maneki-Nekomimi)
[The Rich Pretty Boy] - Hiroshi is way more interested in magic than most rich students at Empyrean. Rather than get angry at other students being more skilled then him, he instead decided to get better. The magic he is currently studying is magic that can bring more money and gold to the poorer Nekomimi in the Cat Kingdom.
Karan Patel (Rakshasa)
[The Rich Snob] - Karan comes from a rather powerful Rakshasa family and has always been held to a high standard. His parents had high hopes for him when joined Empyrean and so did he. He eventually got very jealous of the 'poorer' students being more skilled than him and it resorted to him picking on them with the help of his money and influence outside the school. His parents see no problem with this behavior as long as he gets more skilled with magic.
Baise (Animalfolk (Golden Langur)
[The Unskilled Aggressor] - Who was originally going to bring honor and pride to his whole troop, Baise slowly went mad with praise and power that came with the magic he wanted to study. Now at Empyrean, he's known for his lack of any skills because he wants his power fast and also know for being more than just a regular jerk. His only real friend is Karan, and even he's scared of Baise.
Ireye (Dogfolk (Borzoi))
[The Uncaring Unwanted] - After joining Empyrean to hone some magic skill, Ireye was immediately disowned by her whole family because most Dogfolk have an aversion to magic, kind of like the Ogres. It didn't matter to her anyway, because she was sure to find better people at Empyrean anyway. Though she comes off as cold and collected, she's actually emotional deep down and hides it well.
-------------------------
Nestor (Unicorn)
[The Pure Sweetheart] - Someone who just wants to be loved, Nestor has no recollection of his family and just wants to make friends so he can have a new family. He's unsure how he ended up in Empyrean, but he wants to make his time here worthwhile and find his purpose here along the way.
Natsu (Bake-Nekomimi)
[The Magic Hipster] - Natsu is always the life of the party whenever he gas them. He's very emotional, but more so he's very excitable and enjoys life to the fullest. His magic skills are on the downside, but his determination to get better and his all around attractivesness is what makes him more popular. He can seem rude at first, but once you get to know him he seems a little nicer, if not a little more immature.
Yuuna (Bake-Nekomimi)
[The Aloof Sister] - Seemingly less immature than her brother (but still as much), Yuuna is known as a 'cool loser' by her friends when she actually lets loose and has fun. She's definitely better at magic than her brother, but for all the wrong reasons. She can't seem to keep a boyfriend because she either gets bored easily or just doesn't know how to keep them interested.
Fowoke (Gnoll)
[The Cool Party Teen] - Raised by a Human couple since she was a small Gnoll, she gets out all her aggressiveness and energy through the parties' Natsu and Yuuna throw. She's much more mature than the siblings, but only by a bit. She's also a tad bit too trusting of others since she has no sense of danger. It might be why she practices fire magic despite the danger it can bring.
Jelani (Loxo)
[The Big Party Elephant] - Another partier in the group, Jeilani isn't that smart and it's a wonder why he's at Empyrean at all. He says it's because he comes from a full family of mages, but he's become more interested in partying than magic in recent years. Back at home he had more troubles with waring clans, so he's using this time to relax and stop worrying.
Itsuki (Kuirin)
[The Skinny Party Giraffe] - Itsuki is another cool loser like Yuuna, but he's far more interested in magic than the rest of the group. Sadly, he's only interested in it to make their parties more wilder. He comes from a long line of Kuirin who were the best of the best and he had a lot of pressure put onto him as a child to be just as good as all his fathers. This led him to throwing that all out the window when he got to Empyrean since his friends and partying felt more comfortable.

Hmm...you know, since I'm this deep into FantasTech anyway, sure! Why not, amirite? ^^
Just gotta figure out, what race would she be?

Hmm, if I had to guess, I'd probably say a Tiefling created from an Elf, as she was an Asari in HSIS, the horns she has could be shaped similar to Asari head tentacles, and she could have blue skin, that's just my idea though
Sorry if I'm bugging you by asking you this, but have you had a chance to read the two new FantasTech stories? Or are you too busy with your sister at the mo?

I like how all my chatacters turned out, Tipsy, and I like all of yours as well - especially Lyyras, Elowin, Noah, and Sydnee.
Sqelch is going to be excited about all these pretty boys that are in the school. I can already imagine her sneaking into the boy's locker rooms (and she might be small enough to get away with it). I'm also not sure if Sydnee would hang around Delphesia and Sqelch, but they'd definitely listen to Sydnee the most because they enable her crazy theories.

Thank ya very much dude!
- I can say without a doubt that Sydnee WOULD hang around those two, pretty much because they affirm her crackpot ideas! Saying outrageous shit like
*Zakary transferred to Empyrean because he's on the run from a solar deity he stole a gemstone from.
*Baena's three heads will start fighting over who gets to dominate the entire body.
*Or that Altair is the reincarnation of a legendary vampire famous for slaughtering hundreds of people, trying to redeem himself as a Fruit Vampire.
Junk like that. XD
- Heheheh, locker room shenanigans except gender-bender'd! Like if Sqelch managed to catch a moment of Noah, Lyyras, and Elowin in the boys' locker room, breaking into song while they get changed. It helps that she won't be punched across the room if she is found out, although Noah would probably get really body-shy if he sees her.
He does admittedly have times where he wishes he didn't look so girly.

You're welcome, Tipsy!
-Poor Zakary, Baena, and Altair - especially Altair. Luckily no one would believe this except for maybe Natsu or Nestor. Though, Nestor would probably find out it's untrue right away while Natsu would be having a hard time being explained the truth by everyone.
- Awww. In a maybe chivalrous moment (which surprisingly isn't too rare for Sqelch), she would try to convince Noah that he is perfect the way he is.

D'awww...that actually is pretty adorable there!
I imagine that the only reason why Noah is insecure about his body is because he's been teased before for being effeminate. Even having pink hair to boot! And barely an ounce of muscle on him!
Although if Sqelch is okay with that, or even LIKES it...he probably won't even have any issue with being perved on.
Goes without saying tho, he DOES have awfully smooth skin and wide hips for a guy. XD

This is turning out surprisingly well for Sqelch! XD Then again, I guess it is a pretty good subversion because most male pervert characters get beat up or some form of karma for perving on girls.
Oddly enough, some of my female characters in (and outside of) FantasTech don't mind a guy a little on the girly side with smooth skin amd wide hips - especially Sqelch.

Now that I've finally finished the descriptions for everyone with Kasari's help, I can definitely say that the prospect of another Pengaloon character is quite exciting! Something perhaps to counter the rather hedonistic Chitarra?
Hmm...somehow I have a bit of an interesting dynamic in mind. WHAT IF this Pengaloon OC was quite good at magic, yet she works her butt off to get even better at it? But at the same time, stills falls JUST behind Chitarra, who's barely even trying, and is already living the life of the party.
It...kinda reminds me of the dynamic Justinian III and Kaz have. But how this OC would react to given circumstances depends on her characterization! Because Chitarra would certainly hold no malice against them, that much is for sure.

...HOOOO-LEEEE SH--Okay, there's alot to unpack here, and it all looks awesome. No denying that; you've done great so far. But we might be here for quite a while if I commented on EVERYTHING that stood out to me, so let's try a parody of something I've seen on YouTube: Empyrean Academy Student Reviews in 10 Words or Less
[Rules: 1) Just my FAVORITES, not including beloved main characters. Again, trying to save time here. 2) Emoticons/icons and links don't count as words.]
Lorenz: D'AWWW, dis precious boy! Must pinch his widdle cheeksies~!
Oodl; Interesting looks aside, seems LESS appealing personality-wise than Sucy.
Annuna-Li: Way better than the movie...CGI didn't do Dywane favors. (m.youtube.com/watch?v=RYHaarxQ… )
Baena: Makes me wanna create someone just to love her unconditionally.
Maleia: You ARE the dancing queen! Young and sweet,
only seventeen~!
Nara: Looks vaguely Keronian...INTRIGUED. Also, slightly disappointed in missing description.
Adelaide: Again, no description on most curious one. Curse my impatience!
Chitarra: ...Well we know where MY thoughts are going, huh?
Sydnee: KuuuKuKu~
Neil & Aisha: No description needed for THESE kids! ...Seriously tho, please finish.
Charla: Girl could use a new outlet to...regain her SPARK.
Keone: *ahem* ...
WHAT CAN I SAAAAY, EXCEPT YOU'RE WELCOME~
Thearina: Of all Kasari's kiddos here, kitty's got me curious.
Hiroshi: Speaking of curious cats...
Baise: Monkey?...MONKEEEY!!
Weeell, that's enough monkeyshines from me for now. Until next time...
(In case you didn't notice, I had a lotta fun with this. )

In which case, really sorry that I didn't do the descriptions on the night before BUUUUUUUUUT I finally got 'em all done just now! Agh, curses for being late, but welp, better late than never!
Enjoy dude! I'll respond to your reviews after you read the new entries! ^^

It's cool dude; sorry if it seemed like I was pressuring you to finish this ASAP. Just was REALLY curious to learn more about some of the folks who didn't have info on 'em (when you had time to finish it).
Though on that note, let's update some of my reviews to match new intel!
Nara: ...Yup--PERFECT. Definitely wanna co-own. DIBS.
Adelaide: Well ain't she a sweetie~? Wouldn't mind sharing her too.
Sydnee: "Crazy Frog", eh? But seriously; love frogs, love her. WANT.
Elowin: ...Knew Noah was male just looking, but not this guy.
Neil & Aisha: Still ever the power couple...in more ways than one.
Keone: So yeah, basically Maui, but POST character development.
Thearina: Seems my curiosity rewarded me; pretty cool cat Kasari's got.
Hiroshi: Same for him; great show of altruism on his part.
Baise: Reminds me own angry monkey Sonic OC...tho less lovable.
((Also, don't need to CO-OWN Baena, but would definitely like to have a character of my own that becomes close as best friend or significant other, helping the gal feel better about herself.))
Alright, respond away!

D'awwww no worries dude! I knew that much! I just know that I also have a bad habit of posting incomplete work before bed.
BUT ANYWAY, ON WE GO!
-------------
- Of course dude! I'd be so glad go co-own Nara, Adelaide and Sydnee! Hooboy, ESPECIALLY Sydnee! She's all sorts of comedy platinum waiting to happen!
- Elowin, Elowin, Elowin...now that I think about it, Empyrean seems to have its fair share of girly-looking guys. No offense to actual girly-looking guys out there! But hmm...it could use a bit of a manly edge to it if I say so meself, to balance things out!
I mean look at how many female students are here! XD
- Also...I think I still wanna own Baena. But I really do wanna see what sort of new companion you can come up for her! Someone to make her a little less lonely in the world.
Any ideas??

Suh-WEET! Maybe we could talk a bit more 'bout the specifics of these three after finishing discussions on ones I already had planned for FantasTech. Or right here right now; whichever works.
As for Baena's bestie, hmmm...Haven't thought of a good idea yet. Probably need more time to think about it.

Well, we kinda already started a thread, so hey! We could start brainstorming here! Don't forget to switch comments to Flat View just to make it easier.
And don't worry! I'll get to the notes when I can!

In any case...which one should we dive into first?
Nara? Adelaide? Sydnee? Or brainstorming Baena's bestie?

Alrighty then! Well, we could start from the top of the list [Nara] and work our way down [Adelaide, Sydnee, Baena bestie].
First of all, anything else you might've had in mind for Nara that wasn't in her description? Could build on her more together from there.

Gotcha dude!
- In which case, Nara...her love for mentally stimulating challenges, and puns is kind of a nod to how sphinxes were known for telling riddles and testing the worthy.
- Sphinxes are constructs. So far the Netjeru are the only ones who know how to make them so well. But Nara...the product of a newbie who made a miniature as a "rough draft". Even accidentally chip her nose off while sculpting her!
- Nara seems fully aware of the imperfect nature of her creation. So she also goes for self-deprecating humor as well, to take the piss out of herself as well as others.

Ahh, gotcha. Makes sense. I also feel like, even if she likes stimulating her mind with complex mental challenges, her OWN riddles are all usually terrible jokes. Albeit some are decently impressive by exactly how much thought was put into them. Case in point:
"So we know why six was afraid of seven, but why WAS it that seven ate nine?
...Give up? 'Cuz yer supposed to eat 'THREE-SQUARED MEALS A DAY'. BOOM! MATHMATICAL!"

Oh exactly! Another sign to her imperfection if nothing else!
Like...as sharp as her mind is, her humor, riddles and discourse has...mixed success, to say the least. Pretty much like telling next-level dad jokes. XD
Somehow they never fail to make Adelaide laugh!

Eeyup, possibly because Adelaide had never been surrounded by very much witticism or worldplay in her daily life back home, or at least none of such...lower calibur. Either way, Nara's sense of humor feels almost entirely new to her, and therefore is some of the funniest stuff she's ever heard. One awkward meeting with a few corny jokes to attempt breaking the ice, and the Gorgades was already hooked on her "riddles". They became fast friends after that.
SO, unless there's anything else we can think of for Nara, I suppose we could switch directly over to Adelaide (especially since you were kind enough to provide such a convenient segue ).

Of course dude! Always happy to oblige, so let us dive into Adelaide!
- Ahhh, Adelaide...So, just for context, you know about Fallen Kingdoms, rite? Basically, since the island Kingdoms of Cauldron float in the sky, some kind of disaster or overuse of magic causes them to fall into the ocean.
- The Gorgades, a race of women-folk covered in fur, are one such race whose home was subject to this. Since they're all female, this period was marked by various families attempting to ship their youth to the Ascended Kingdoms, to reestablish their population in the future.
Adelaide got a lucky head start because her family had lots of money.
(Also, movie time! Gotta go for now!)

Well, guess that worked out for her then, huh? Though from what's in her description, Adelaide doesn't seem to have much knowledge of common life to work with on her own...perhaps knowing very little about life outside her home--including the Ascended Kingdoms--overall.
(Okey-doke, have fun! )

(Whew! Just watched some Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind for Graphic Novel English class. FINALLY I've realized its majesty!
...only halfway done tho, so we'll see the rest on Monday)
But on that topic, you're pretty much spot on!
The process of flying up there was scary for Adelaide. And even with all her wealth, she's still wholly unfamiliar to the going-ons and social norms of the Ascended Kingdoms. Even more so when thrown into a diverse setting like Empyrean Academy, where one's class ISN'T indicative of their character!
Interacting with the Upper Class? She ran afoul of Karan, who harshly reprimanded her in public for her lack of standards and class.
Interacting with the Lower Class? Justinian III got very angry at her for showing off her wealth in an attempt to impress him.
In a school of such diverse personalities...she hardly knows where to start, and how well it'll turn out for her.

After watching/reading Nausicaa, she became my favorite "Disney Princess"....Y'know, 'cuz Disney distributed the dubs of Ghibli movies for awhile?
)
Yeesh, talk about a tough crowd to start with...good thing Adelaide probably finds at least a FEW people who'll be willing to help her, or at least make the struggle emotionally easier to handle. Like Nara, whose witticisms lift her spirits like nothing else. And Sydnee, while wildly wrong on her initital assumptions about Gorgades culture, seems highly fascinated in learning more about her people, which she at least knows enough about from history and culture studies to share [correct] information on willingly. Perhaps even Baena's own social awkwardness (although for different reasons) would be something they could share slight solidarity in, whether they become particularly close or not.

(Huh! Funny that, we ended up watching the Subs for it! Still love it to bits! And Nausicaa still comes off to me as a tough, yet ladylike figure. :> Try that on for size, Disney Princesses!)
SPEAKING OF PRINCESS-LIKE GIRLS...
At least it is true that Adelaide learns that there's no "easy" way to tell someone's character by their class or appearance. Which is why I imagine she went through a period of quietly observing everyone else, just to see how they behave. And deciding from there who it would be safest to talk to.
As of now, Baena slowly easing into her friendship with Adelaide. It IS admittedly a major step out of her comfort zone, and will need time. While Nara hit it off with Adelaide right away, giving her motivation to keep trying!
And then Sydnee, hooboy Sydnee...it was one of the few times where ADELAIDE approached someone else to talk. Namely to correct them. And that was because Sydnee was spouting some crazy theory about how the Gorgades are related to Gorgons, are serpentine under all their fur, and can paralyze people not through a petrifying gaze, but by having lots of static electricity stored in their bodies.
Just one of many, many, MANY bizarre theories she comes up with!

Yeah, I feel like Baena and Adelaide's friendship would be VERY casual. Like they realize after a few times of them meeting eachother's eyes and giving awkward smiles, that they're both especially shy/awkward girls. Which, even if neither of them are willing to go into details, is at least something they can have silent solidarity on. So the two kept sharing soft smiles anytime they crossed paths, eventually becoming comfortable enough around eachother for this to evolve into a smile AND wave. They even sometimes silently work together during team activities/group projects now. Though probably won't go much farther than that until a special friend helps Baena come out of her shell...
Oof, even if Adelaide's willing to teach, Sydnee really could stand to learn some tact and restraint to go with that enthusiasm... Tho' hardly anybody's gonna stop her when she's on a roll.
Speaking of which, think it may be the "Crazy Frog's" turn. Whaddya we got on 'er?

HOOBOY, so next is Sydnee! What a barrel of fun/not-fun this is gonna be. XD
- So Sydnee...her family's kind of a mess. She knows that her father was an alchemist who often made illegal substances. And that her mother was a politician trying to rise the ranks, as well as a chronic liar. Her other siblings being similarly influenced.
She had grown up to be the way she is, because her family's life was often chaotic, but well...nobody ever told her anything. And if they did, their "explanation" is a lie that they made up to stop their daughter from ratting on them. Eventually simply encouraging her to make her own explanations as to what happened. In fact, when she showed signs of becoming socially inept and prone to making up obviously false theories...they enabled her habits, to help save their skin.
When she got too close to something they were working on, both her mom and dad had made a plan to convince her that she was developing dark and sinister powers, and needed to go to Empyrean Academy right away to learn how to control it!
In short...her own lying mom and dad turned her into a Chuunibyou who thinks she has the power to see "THE TRUTH".

...*Deep Inhale* OH DEAR. And here I thought she just had a bit too much enthusiasm; turns out it was a family issue. And Sydnee's not even AT the school for a legitimate reason; she just THINKS herself to have a powerful magic...YIKES, that's tragic.
I suppose even if the school knows any of the truth behind her magical ability (or lack thereof), they aren't going turn away someone who's there to learn (though wonder what would happen when it comes to practice in "controlling" that "power"...) And even many of the other students enable her behavior by listening to or just ignoring her rants...Wonder if she's ever gonna learn the REAL Truth.
Though besides Adelaide, are there many people who ever try to correct Sydnee on her wild theories? Out of concern, annoyance, or otherwise?

Well the other thing to consider is that she's as enthusiastic as she is because her parents are ALSO much the same way.
They aren't even all that intentionally malicious, and are kind of...Mankanshoku-esque. And they do have very real concerns over not involving their daughter in their more dangerous work!
Except...they both are BRIMMING with bad ideas! Bad, dumb, and contagious. Avoiding parent-teacher conferences at all costs does NOT help their case.
Either way, most students advise each other to correct her whenever possible, because she's surprisingly understanding when given a logical explanation for things.

Ohhh, well that's good. Still rather unfortunate, but alot better than it sounded at first.
And it's nice hearing that Sydnee will listen to reason when presented to her properly; makes it alot easier to have connections with others in school, like Adelaide and Nara. Guess many folks just like listening to the wild ride in full first. (I'm sure there's still SOME who get annoyed by her regular antics anyways, but that's probably more on their personality than hers.)
Though that still leaves me to wonder: how might the issue of Sydnee's..."unstable truth-seeing magic" be handled by the staff? Do they realize she doesn't actually have such a power, but are letting her keep training for the sake of learning in general?

Although BOY, that "sounds worse than it is" would apply to her own explanation of her family life! Like...she'd word it poorly enough to make someone convinced her folks need a good kick in the pants. XD
But say...lets say the staff figured out her malfunction early, and saw a better way to help her learn without crushing her spirit outright.
"You do indeed have a power to see and learn. And you're not alone in possessing it. However...does it reveal the absolute hidden truth on the first try? Not always. Life and learning is more complicated than that.
And that's why you're here! To learn the truth for yourself, whatever that may be.
I'll admit, I don't know what you consider as the truth, but always...always remember to keep an open mind. Be open to learning and trying again...

Alright, so I'm thinking, maybe Baena's new best friend won't be another student...but a creature living off-campus in the nearby forest.
Baena probably spends a lot of time by herself, due to her insecurities, which leads to many a solitary nature walk. One day, without paying too much attention to where she's going, she finds herself lost in strange fog and ends up at a mysterious lake. Before Baena can sort out where she is, something surprises her as it emerges from the water...an aquatic fey called a Nixie.
[pathfinder.fandom.com/wiki/Nix… ]
(Pathfinder's version can be more friendly than the "official" folklore, so that's what I went with. Though you can also check the stuff on Wikipedia if it helps, and of course specifically decide how these creatures would work in your setting. Will hear your thoughts on that before continuing to tell the actual story, as what you suggest might change the details a bit.)

Ahh! A Nixie, huh?
I looked on Wikipedia, and noted several interesting tidbits that could be handy!
- In Germany, its known as the Nix (Male)/Nixie (Female)They can shapeshift into other forms, such as a human, fish, or serpent.
They can be distinguished as such because Nix have slit ears, and Nixies have fish tails.
- In England, there are Knuckers, which are basically serpentine water dragons.
- In Scandinavia, there are Nokk, who are Male water spirits who lure people to their waters by playing a violin/fiddle. They can make some truly enchanting music, although often ask for tribute to teach their talents.
Also somehow linked to Kelpies/Water horses.
Maybe...we can take a page from each? Maybe as a sort of draconic water fairy that's really good at playing the violin, and serenades Baena.

Alright, sounds good. Maybe also including how they can shapeshift, so it could take other forms if wished, and the Pathfinder part about being guardians of their lakes.
So perhaps Baena is lured through the fog by a soothing melody, until she comes across the lake. There she finds the young Nixie lady [currently in draconian form] playing violin, only to immediately stop upon realizing she's not alone. She senses no malicious intent from Baena, so simply apologizes for being a distraction and kindly asks her to leave.
Though Baena wishes to hear more violin, as the song had sounded enchantingly beautiful. Touched by the compliment and having felt a rather lonely anyways, the Nixie allows her to stay for a short private performance.
After that, they get to talking about what Baena was doing in the forest to begin with, at which point she explains her walks and feeling rather alone due to her cursed situation. Of course the Nixie understands, being by itself to protect the lake for so many years, thus makes an offer: so long as she doesn't tell anyone else about the lake, Baena can come by to talk and listen to violin any time she likes. And so their friendship begins...

Ahh of course! Good way to strike up a friendship!
Lessee what else I can throw in...
- Perhaps the Nixie in question is so protective of its secrecy, because this wasn't its first home.
THAT would be the Lake Kingdom.
A seeming paradise, like Hieronymus Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights. Which is in reality...a great place for a vacation, but a TERRIBLE place to live. Knowing it's a veritable hive of debauchery and hedonism, and people who've lost their empathy after so much self-indulgence.
The Nixie may have been ousted from its home, upon a scare happening involving a "Sea Serpent in the Loch".
And here, in the Heavenly Kingdom where Empyrean Academy was, it thought it'd be safe to reveal itself.
...until that whole fiasco with the "Egg-Stealing Scarlet".
Now it's convinced that no one must know of its existence. At least...no one besides Baena, who may share similar social anxieties.

Yeahhh, that would explain it. Nix & Nixies are rather protective of their lake homes in general, but going through so much trouble could certainly make someone try to close themselves off from others entirely. Hence the mystic fog, which would normally obscure its watery domain from prying eyes...except this Nixie lead Baena right to them with her music.
Still, by the end of their meeting, she certainly didn't mind the company, and actually feels like she might look FORWARD to the girl coming back...She may not have to stay completely alone after all.
Though I wonder how Baena herself felt about this whole encounter. What kind of impression did the Nixie leave on her? Would she be excited to return?...And how well would she handle the pressure of keeping the lake's location a secret?

Let's see here!
If anything, Baena can hardly believe that she actually brought herself to reach out to this new face the way she did. Even if just to hear a song again.
She DID feel guilty of intruding upon her space, but just this once...she tried sticking to her guns, and it worked!
She's got a new friend!
- Keeping secrets tho...she thought it so easy at first, because she truly thought no one cares about her private life anyway
However...on the off-chance that she gains friends concerned about her...
Baena would confess she IS keeping a secret. But won't say it! And would look to the Nixie for guidance.

And gain a friend she did...in the form of one socially-awkward Gorgades. Unlike most of the other students, Adelaide pays enough attention to Baena to eventually notice that she's been off-campus after classes even more so than usual.
Not wanting to assume anything but still being concerned, she comes up to ask directly if something is wrong, and if there's any way she could help. My guess is that Baena would try to deny it, but nervousness makes her seem more troubled than she actually is, in turn worrying Adelaide even further.
Baena can tell Adelaide knows something's up, even if she doesn't quite know what it is, and decides to ask the Nixie what she should do, since this whole situation effects her most. Her first instinct (while mentally freaking out) is to say they should immediately stop meeting up anymore...though she can't help but feel a twinge of sadness at the thought of never seeing Baena again. So instead, she makes a bolder suggestion.
"W-Well, if you can't keep coming HERE without people getting suspicious, then why don't I, um...y'know.......c-come stay at the school with YOU?"
That's right; the Nixie actually offers to leave her lake, and go back with Baena to Empyrean Academy. Since they can take the form of a fish, Baena could cover up by saying she found it injured in the forest river and ended up taking care of it or something, wanting to bring the aquatic creature into her dorm as a pet...There are many ways such a plan could go awry, especially if there's teachers or students who might have some idea of what a transformed Nixie looks like, but this fey ain't thinkin' straight at the moment.

Awww...poor Adelaide, wanting to help her friend, but being kept out of the loop like that.
Perhaps it takes the form of an injured fish, probably with a busted fin or scratch wound, to give the Nixie an excuse to stay around Baena?
The same teacher who counciled Sydnee earlier in the school year...they offered to take a look at this injured fish to help treat it. Because while they didn't say it outright, they IMMEDIATELY saw through the Nixie's disguise. And...as they're helping heal her "fish", decided to offer up another droplet of wisdom.
---------------------
"Baena, was it? I notice that social interaction is a struggle for you. I'm not here to judge...but rather to understand and help.
Because interacting with people...it's not scary because certain groups of people are all the same. It's scary because everyone is different. You can never really know how a person will act, react, or think just by a first glance. There's always more. So not everyone will want to be your friend.
On the other hand...the diversity at our school is also a reason why it's so grand! Because you don't know how things will turn out unless you try, and try again, accepting that there are people who dislike you, because eventually you WILL find those you can bond with! Like a sphinx who tells puns. Or a rich and ladylike Gorgades. Or maybe even the occasional Nixie in disguise.
With sincerity, I encourage all of them to see this opportunity to experience this wide spectrum of personalities. And...to come as they are, when they feel the time is right.
If all else fails...I'm here to help. Just as any teacher worth their salt ought to do!"

Holy Mana-on-High, this teacher is an absolute TREASURE. Look forward to putting a name and face to these sage words of wisdom someday (reminds me that you haven't done much for teachers and staff at the Academy yet...all in good time, I suppose). Though the Nixie does briefly choke on water at hearing that "casual" nod to her true identity near the end there.
In any case, after the instructor's advice [to BOTH of them], the Nixie has another serious talk with Baena about what would come next. She decides that, if the two of them are able find other people they can trust...then maybe neither of them have to stay isolated anymore. So they slowly start introducing themselves [properly] to people at the school.
Of course Baena's first choice to approach about friendship AND the Nixie would probably be Adelaide, seeing how kind she was and feeling bad for keeping her in the dark earlier. Nara would be told/find out next as Adelaide's closest friend. Both of them take the whole situation rather well, and promise not to reveal anything about the Nixie to anyone else until they're comfortable with meeting more people.
From there comes deciding exactly WHO to tell next...one of the more responsible students like Baddington would be a good idea, as he could probably handle such sensitive information well and help them coordinate future efforts. Though there are certainly people they'd be somewhat hesitant to tell before others, one of them admittedly being...Sydnee.
While they DO want to tell her eventually, they're unsure how well she could keep a secret, considering how open she is with just about everything else. And if her enthusiasm caused word to get out too fast, the Nixie might have a hard time handling so many people knowing about it at once. Perhaps they aren't giving poor Syd enough credit, but it's not like their concerns are COMPLETELY unfounded, at least in their own minds.

(Well make sure you don't forget the staff BESIDES teachers; cooks and custodians are important too. )
Well, fortunately, things seem to be going VERY well for our water fey so far! Aaaaaand seeing how Sydnee actually ends up responding to the Nixie news does make Adelaide and Nara feel pretty awful for doubting their friend.
But all is forgiven, and the group becomes even closer through improving their trust in one another.
Speaking of which, through helping the Nixie meet so many good people, Baena likley discovers just as many folks she herself wants to become closer to as well. By reaching out to the Nixie in the first place, she began making critical strides towards feeling more comfortable around others...as well as feeling better about herself. For all that they've done, Baena and the Nixie will always be grateful to one another.
After successful meetings with most of the students and staff at Empyrean, the Nixie [whose name I've decided shall be Ingrid] decides that perhaps she WILL attend the school...though not with any sort of disguise, simply taking this form when on land so it's easier to attend classes : (vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/pa… ) She appreciates everyone willing to keep her identity a secret, but doesn't feel like she has to hide anymore, with so many people around to support her...So long as they agree to help protect her lake, while she learns magic to better protect it herself, she's good.

IN ANY CASE, I think Sydnee would be open to explanations. More so than one would think! Because Sydnee's theorizing is less to gain attention and more to "fill in the blanks" until someone else does it for her.
But either way...this is her step into becoming part of Empyrean Academy's social circle. Knowing that their are people willing to stand alongside her.
I wonder tho...would Baena's and Ingrid's relationship simply be "besties", after she's successfully integrated? Maybe more? Maybe less?

(Indeed. And if we're talking staff, I actually do have an idea for who/what the janitor might be...but that can come AFTER our "feature presentation" as a "special feature".
)
WELL, ABOUT THAT. There's [at least] one more important part of this tale to tell. Once Ingrid starts regularly attending classes, there's no doubt in anyone's mind that she and Baena are very close friends; they're almost inseparable, even putting a tank full of water/sand/foliage from Ingrid's lake into Baena's dorm room so she could comfortably rest there. (The Nixie will often return to her lake at night to personally guard it, but does so less often now with the school offering protection spells for it.)
Upon the approach of a school dance, everyone's abuzz with excitement on how they're gonna party, what they're gonna wear...and of course, who they're gonna go with. While discussing what they'll be doing that night, Ingrid suggests to Baena that the both of them go together, and Baena happily agrees to attending as a "buddy couple", the kind for those without dates. For the next few days, Ingrid seems a bit more distant, which of course worries Baena to no end. Upon being asked what's wrong, the Nixie admits she has a confession to make. She wants to attend the dance with Baena not as a best friend...but as a GIRLFRIEND.
Ever since Baena first arrived at the lake, Ingrid had been smitten with her. She intially tried to supress these feelings, certain that any relationship between them--even real friendship--couldn't work. But Baena's cuteness, kindness, and empathy to her situation pulled the Nixie ever deeper into obsession with the girl. To the point that she was willing to leave the lake behind, just to ensure they stayed together. After all that Baena had done for her, Ingrid knew without a doubt that there was no one she would rather be with more...as a best friend, AND a significant other.
(When I said this fey wasn't thinking STRAIGHT earlier, I meant it; she's really "coming out of the water closet" now! )
SO. The most important moment...how will Baena respond to Ingrid's feelings for her??

Baena's response to Ingrid's confession of her feelings for her?
This being the height of her worries, thinking she somehow gravely offended Ingrid...hearing her come out made Baena...she initially went quiet, trying to process the confession.
...before tearing up and wrapping Ingrid into the biggest hug she's ever given.
Because...Ingrid declares herself in love with Baena. And Ingrid was the one person in the world who let her believe she COULD be loved. By friends. By family. And by her...Ingrid helped Baena move past her self loathing, and can say she finally loves herself.
...and so, she's ready to love Ingrid back a hundredfold.
To give her heart, spirit and body to the Nixie who's longed most for them.
How shall Ingrid celebrate their official getting-together tho?
