Description
FORWARD,owns the Batling Race, and conceived of the Merfolk.
owns the Trwyth.
owns the Florina
AND FINALLY!!! THIS TOOK SO DAMN LONG!!! Not only the pic. But the description too. Anyway uh...please enjoy. ^^
NOT TO MENTION, these aren't really characters, so much as "generic" members of each race, just so you can see what they look like. I mean unless you want them to be characters. XD
----------------------------
Dwarf
Before: The main work force of the High Elves, they were alcoholic, Elf-hating, ax-swinging "warriors" stuck doing menial labor.
After: The discovery of the first piece of tech, named the Ramjet Wrench, had helped thrust them into a new path as engineering and scientific geniuses, who craft machines of great functionality and potential.
Dark Elf
Before: Simply an offshoot of the High Elves trapped on a Fallen Kingdom, they were once as graceful and artful as any other Elf.
After: Centuries of being isolated with no other company, on a hostile land had made them strong fighters. But it also made them alcoholic, boorish, blunt, and INCREDIBLY profane. Taking up jobs as mercenaries to deal with their lack in social skills.
Goblin
Before: Little more than quick cannon fodder, they were simply low-level soldiers sent out en masse, to soak enemy attacks.
After: An unexpected source of bravery in battle, they now charge into battle with Magitech weapons and vehicles, and are hailed as invaluable members of the royal guard, and what they call the "Chopper Patrol".
Naga
Before: Once, the children of Rahab, and one of his own daughters, Anna-Shesha, and living under the instruction of the Sea Serpents.
After: Refusing to offer up their most beloved leader, Adi-Shesha, to be violated by Rahab, they rebelled against him and his Sea Serpents, using a thaumaturgical ritual to lift the island with a huge water spout. And have since remained at the front line against Rahab.
Orc
Before: The often-discriminated, shunned warrior race, infamous for starting two world wars, and inspiring much anti-orc propaganda.
After: One of the most honorable and brave race of warriors out there, renowned for their chivalry, and their proficiency as noble knights who rescue, and even marry, princesses.
High Elf
Before: The effective rulers of the world, who had enslaved just about every race they came across, and named themselves king of all.
After: With so many making an attempt to dissociate themselves from the conquerors of yore, many now work as travelling artists, craftsmen, performers, and intellectuals, still able to bring beauty into the world.
Cyclops
Before: Little more than a particularly small, weak type of "giant", hardly strong enough to fight off adventurers exploring dungeons.
After: An extremely intelligent, sophisticated type of half-giant, whose analytical eye gives them proficiency in various fields requiring attention to detail, and cunning. Including espionage.
Wood Elf
Before: The peaceful, harmonious druids of the forest who lived in balance with nature, and never got involved with outside matters.
After: After being freed from their enslavement via High Elves, they can't bring themselves to change easily. One party keeps working menial jobs, the other is so addicted to magic, they continue to use it in the forests.
Florina
Before: The joyful, shy, yet sociable flower people who exist in great numbers, and had a mass-pollination ritual every five years.
After: The paranoid, easily spooked flower people whose population has taken a MASSIVE drop after their homeland, Garden Kingdom, has fallen. They're in danger of extinction, and five years simply is not enough time to get their numbers back up...
Troll
Before: Due to the meddling of the High Elves, after the Jotnar rebellion, they were doomed to live as beasts under bridges.
After: The curse that turned them into stone in the sunlight had been lifted. Now, they embrace a new era, establishing the Troll Market, and becoming expert merchants, and ever-faithful assistants to the Dwarves.
Holstaur
Before: They had all been but overshadowed by their male counterparts, the Minotaurs, who were known for their strength and brutality.
After: The overabundance of "strong, scary monstrous humanoids" had caused attention to be turned to their female counterparts, who could do everything the Minotaurs could and more! And became renowned for their beauty, bustiness, and brawn.
Birdfolk
Before: The race who supposed themselves the literal children of Ziz, they raised themselves above all others, and posed as angels.
After: Events including slavery via High Elf, the rising of the Dwarves, and the threat of the Feathered Serpents had greatly humbled them. Their only hope now is to work together alongside the other races, rather than above them.
Human
Before: Considered little more than one of the most average, and uninteresting races, who were easily enslaved by the Elves.
After: Now, humans are widely known for being unpredictable in their attitudes, and unorthodox in how they do things. The establishment of the Wire Kingdom had done wonders to show off human ingenuity at its finest.
Swanmay
Before: These Swan Maidens had once been targeted by men, who stole their feather capes to force them to marry them.
After: Tired of being forced to marry, and tired of leaving behind children, they became the alluring but deadly rangers of the forest. Those who want their hand will have to EARN it now, and show her that they are worthy of her companionship.
Chromatic Dragon
Before: A descendant race of the Sea Serpents, who had been given wings, they waged war on the Kingdoms of Cauldron above.
After: However...the Chromatic Dragons had something the Sea Serpents didn't: honor. Rather than let them be extinguished, Cauldron offered to spare them, so long as they support a better cause...and so they did. As the Guardians of Elemental Magic.
Gnome
Before: They had once worked alongside the Dwarves to replace the Trolls once they went missing. Again, they were just menial workers.
After: Like the Dwarves, they had also taken to science and engineering. Unlike the Dwarves, their way of doing things is more creative, albeit FAR less practical. Their value of failure over success had allowed them to learn so much in so little time.
Wight
Before: They were among the ranks of the undead, as simply a stronger, slightly more durable version of the average zombie.
After: That is, until a thaumaturgical ritual was used to give these undead their original minds back, to break control over them. Thus...they were no longer regular zombies. But simply undead people, who continue to think and act like people.
Trwyth
Before: In older times, they were beasts. Boars with poisonous quills that fought off local beasts, to save the lives of settling Elves.
After: In gratitude, they were granted sapience, with the work of a magical comb and pair of scissors. The resulting styling job had given them the minds of people, and they remained faithful to the Elves ever since.
Blemmyae
Before: They were once one of the more peaceful tribal races, living very simple lives in an arid area. That is, until they were enslaved.
After: After being freed from slavery, the Blemmyae became incredibly defensive, and aggressive to other races. They became warriors, ready to attack those on their turf, and ensure no one can ever hold their people captive again.
Menehune
Before: Similar to the Blemmyae, they were a tribal folk, who lived on a tropical island, and made spectacular crafts from wood.
After: Like other races, they were enslaved. But after their freedom was granted, they went back to their island, only to find it being settled by other races! And well...they decided to roll with it, and make it into a hub for tourism.
Lung Dragon
Before: Back then, they were actually Sea Serpents themselves, and had done increasingly evil things to attain flight, to attack Cauldron.
After: Their quest for flight had led them to discover many things about the world...and in doing so, they wanted to destroy it less and less. Until they came to the Kingdoms not as destroyers, but as spiritual guides. Wanting to atone for all they'd done before.
Centaur
Before: Dominated by their male counterparts, they lived as part of a very savage, very boorish and hostile society.
After: Until the Centauromachy happened, with them crashing a royal wedding. The females had taken charge since then, to make Centaur society a much more honorable one, oriented towards becoming blacksmiths and mighty warriors.
Cynos
Before: A tribal people who lived in hostile conditions, leading them to behave like little more than savages who liked to hunt and kill.
After: A race who had learned to get close to each other and others through their years of slavery, leading them to still be quite fierce when necessary. But oftentimes quite affectionate to others, and loyal to friends.
Gem Dragons
Before: These Dragons, once the creators of the fertile land, had given up on the world, seeing people destroy their work, and their god.
After: However...the discovery of Technology had given them hope once again. Their new mission is to help seek out technology, and cultivate creative thought...so that the races of Cauldron can stop drawing power from Ziz.
Metallic Dragons
Before: These Dragons had once been opposed to the Chromatic Dragons, being held up high as bastions of honor and justice.
After: However...facing Rahab at the front line had done a number on them. They had become...rusty. Mentally and physically. Their help may be needed once again. But they don't know if they can do it anymore...
Pixie
Before: They were mischievous forest sprites who frequently performed tricks and pranks on those who strayed into their forests.
After: They are STILL mischievous forest sprites, who have taken fancy to Magitech, and frequently mess around with it to screw with other people. They're every bit as annoying and pesky as they were before.
Guardian Dragons
Before: A smaller kind of dragon, bred and employed by Dark Lords to guard hostage princesses/princes, and treasures.
After: After one too many Guardian Dragons fell in love with their captors and married them, even to the point of having children. Thus, instating many guardian dragons today as guardians of royal families, and noble lands.
Merfolk
Before: They had once been a fearful folk, who lived in the Domain of Rahab, and were almost driven to extinction by him.
After: At least...until they had been saved by the Nagas. Befriending them, the Merfolk had become a playful and curious folk, infinitely intrigued by the wonders of the world outside of the water.
Jotunn
Before: Otherwise known as the Ice Giants, their morality was ambiguous, but they were a quite warlike society.
After: When one elite Sea Serpent, named Jormungand, attempted to recruit the Jotnar to wreak great destruction on Cauldron...they refused. And begun attacking HIM instead. Thus, they are at war with the Sea Serpents...and enjoying every moment of it.
Yuki-Onna
Before: At one time, they had been a race of Yokai who hunt those lost in the snow, feeding on their life force.
After: Ironically enough, a failed attempt to suck the life force from the Jotunn leader, Ymir, ended their "evil" run. When threatened with execution, they recited their best qualities. Endearing the Jotunn enough to invite them into their society. And gradually causing the Yuki-Onna to truly become as good as they claimed to be.
Batlings
Before: At first, they had been little more than offshoots of Blood Vampires, and were simply a nuisance at the time.
After: However, given enough time to develop, they became their own great people. Becoming haughty, snobbish, and aloof, some have even gained the same megalomaniac tendancies the High Elves did back then. Much to their leaders' dismay.
Ghosts
Before: There was a time when ghosts were terrifying, as their rage over their situation led them to lash out against the innocent.
After: Things had been this way until some ghosts made an attempt to try something different. Not to get angry over their new predicament, but find ways around its difficulties, and earn their help by being a benevolent presence to others.

....d'you think I should do another one? X'DDD

Ok i just want to ask something
Are some memebers of these races still kind of more fantasy then tech?
Like is there still Dwarves that mine or are more tradtional but say use the tech to improve themsleves?

Hmm! I'd say that MOST of these races are more rooted in Fantasy than Tech. But their levels of technological and social advancement aren't quite the same.
The Dwarves have actually managed to move far past their mining days, and have industrialized their society. Using Tech to mine for them, and spending their days researching, experimenting, and looking forward to the next new development.
And then you have people like the Trwyth, who live in a largely medieval society that reveres hunters. Or the Holstaurs, who live in a largely agricultural society. It pretty much differs per each race.

I want to do more short stories for various races, but some of them need a bit more lore to work with. The next one I planned to do was Kiki, a Batling. But the description of the Bat Kingdom and its residents conflicts with the picture. Are they ALL more bat than human or just this one? Or perhaps because the Cynos have their kingdom in the Eclipse Region, they happened to be the best choice for interracial mating? Thus the amount of bat-like batlings are on the rise as the Cynos turn out to be very loyal and affectionate lovers.
As for my plan for the story, Kiki would be a bit of a stuck-up valley girl who treats her friend like a puppy that won't leave her alone. But her whole popular-girl image gets destroyed when it is revealed that she still gets her fruit juice from juice boxes like a child. She's attending a magic academy to learn some spells that have passive effects like "Blindness" so she could go out into the lighter kingdoms without hurting her eyes. As soon as she learns the spell and uses it to buy some really powerful sunglasses so she can live in the other kingdoms, she plans to run away and join the mercenary Dark Elves who won't care about her popularity but rather her skill. Being the mean girl has its benefits when you kill and threaten for a living.
It's the kind of story where they learn nothing in the end and continue being their awful self. Sometimes the bad ones win and there's nothing you can do about it. That's reality even in FantasTech, right? Unless you have some suggestions for the story? It's still just planning until you give me more lore to work with.
I also want to eventually do one for the Yuki-Onna, Menehune, Pixie, possibly a Scylla, and others. You should also detail where all the races live. Like perhaps the Yuki-Onna would live in the same kingdom as the Jotuun. Perhaps they are the the result of Jotuun who lost their daughters and wives to the war and found some way to protect them better by giving them a more ethereal form. Or maybe the Jotuun are the males and the Yuki-Onna are the females and that's it.

- Hmmm...for one thing, I think I may need to ask Kutenaiabi for more details regarding the Batling race. Since it DOES seem kinda mixed up at this point. But um...if I had to pick an educated guess, I'd say Batlings are typically quite bat-like in appearance. Although how much can depend on their previous lineage, in that those with more Elf or Human blood tend to be less batty. Maybe. I'll double check my writings.
- STILL...I think Kiki's story could potentially work! As a sort of popular mean girl who gets her rep destroyed...and then just goes to be a popular mean girl somewhere else, except this time she kills people for a living. XD YUP. As they say in Calvin and Hobbes, "Live and don't learn. That's us."
- Also, I think the Yuki-Onna would be a particularly interesting subject to touch upon. Because well...
-------------------------------
...I imagine Yuki-Onna have already existed long before. And the Jotunn were kind of a nomadic race, traveling place to place! And the Yuki-Onna began as life-draining snow-vampires who preyed on people lost in the snow. In this case, the Yuki-Onna and Jotunn met...because the Yuki-Onna tried, and failed to kill a Jotunn, and steal his life energy. Said Jotunn being their leader.
He WOULD have executed her, and his men WOULD have prepared to attack this new offender. Except...he asked "Why shouldn't I kill you right now?!" And to answer his question, in a desperate and cunning bid, the offending Yuki-Onna had begun to list a number of positive qualities about herself. I.e, she's smart, charming, funny, creative, kind to her fellow sisters...
...and the Jotunn bought it. And as a result, invited the Yuki-Onna to live in their society. A sudden change in lifestyle with a tribe of icy barbarians, thanks to her hasty attempt at being charming.
And this may be when that Yuki-Onna...suddenly looked quite familiar to the leader Jotunn in question. He knows someone who was just like her, but he can't quite put his finger on it...

Whaddya think?? D'you suppose we're getting at something??

I think it makes sense. The Yuki-Onna would actually benefit from being on friendly terms with ice-barbarians. They'd protect them so long as they kept turning on the charm, something that is perfectly within their nature. They're too smart for these ice-for-brains savages. But by using them as dumb henchmen, they could rule the kingdom as a shadow government, slipping the occasional idea into the head of the leader to make him inadvertently make their lives better. For instance, they must make their homes on the outskirts of the tribe's settlements(Whenever they make camp if they are still nomadic) so they won't become a distraction for the training warriors. This helps the Yuki-Onna because now they can intercept travelers before they get to the settlements. They essentially become a secret border patrol with no regulation. Even if that fact is discovered, they'd just say they wanted to be the first line of defense against any assassins or foil the plans of any scouting parties trying to get info on the Jotuun's strategy.
As for the Batlings, I think for the story I'll use what you just said: Some are more bat-like than others depending on their parentage. The Bat Kingdom is supposedly in the Eclipse Region and if that didn't make it dark enough, they are in a network of caves. So maybe they aren't blind, but they are so used to darkness that their vision is pretty much useless unless they can make everything they see really dark. And by "super strong sunglasses", I meant some sort of goggles or the like, something that ensures the sun cannot glare into her eyes from any angle. So maybe more like a visor made from human technology? (The Cyclops from X-men kind of visor, not the tennis-player kind.) Also, I think the pun name I gave her might have been a bit TOO subtle. It's like a sound a bat would make. I was originally going to go with Iki or an alternate spelling that was more on-the-nose like Eeky, but Kiki sounded like a more normal name and still had the pun. Maybe I am the only one that imagines a bat sounds like that....
I checked what sounds a fruit bat makes, and something like ki-ki is actually pretty accurate since it's more of a short, repeated screech sort of sound. Listen: www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlgC-M… Doesn't matter much either way though, Kiki sounds like a good name for the character regardless.

In which case, let's try something a bit unique!
Senmurv
- They are nomadic a race of benevolent half-wolf, half-bird folk who are known for their dazzling and colorful feathers, and their being descendants of one of Ziz's own children.
Fathered by the winged lord Semargl, and mothered by a Spirit of Night named Kupalnitsa.
Semargl had been driven into insanity by the Sea Serpents, and is kept confined by Ziz himself. But his children, the Senmurv, take it upon themselves to avenge him, and grow up alongside mortals, as comrades.
Thus...now, the Senmurv fly around the world on their multi-colored wings, at the service of whichever Kingdom needs them most.

If you ever decide to do another race compilation like these, I'd love to see some fictional races from D&D because they've got some really good and interesting races such as Kobolds, Gnolls, and Kenku. Maybe you could also find a way to hybrid real kobolds (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobold ) with the ones from D&D?
At the same time I've been thinking of giving the Trwyth a rival race that is a subspecies of the Swanmay.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
TipsyRa1d3n In reply to FrumpyEagle [2018-08-27 18:38:20 +0000 UTC]
Ahh! Definitely dude!
- Been thinking of making the Kobolds a sort of new "worker" race. Ones who often work as household servants, and miners, who do most of the mining now that the Gnomes and Dwarves don't do it anymore.
- The Gnolls. Hmm...I read a medieval bestiary, and some wiki entries on werehyenas and got weird ideas.
Like...Gnolls are still REALLY aggressive, and more often than not hostile. Employed by bad guys too!
But also, they all have a mesmerizing gemstone replacing one eye, the can change their gender, and they're great blacksmiths. And are STILL prone to fleeing from battle!
- Kenku? TheHook1 made a raven-like race already. Sooo...I'll make the Kenku half-Potoo instead! XDD The kind of fellows who still have that are secretive, selfish and scheming...all hidden beneath a stupid-looking exterior. And they are really good at stealth as well.
Whaddya think of these Tipsy ideas so far?? ^^

FrumpyEagle In reply to TipsyRa1d3n [2018-08-27 19:26:43 +0000 UTC]
They're great, Tipsy! Some of my friends who aren't on DA see Kobolds as a worker/slave race anyway so it fits them. I like your ideas for the Gnoll, too, but hopefully you don't portray all the Gnoll as bad. But above all, I love your idea for the Kenku the most! Having them look like really dumb birds, but being actually intelligent tricksters is perfect!
Also, I've developed the rival race for the Trwyth a little more and before they were tricksters as well who dragged other races ships to the depths in lakes and such and have been considered pests of the merfolk in the past. Nowadays, these duck-like water spirits have become a lot more fair and are more of an adventurer/warrior race all with the help of one of their on who decided his species needed to do things more fair and work hard. The reason this race dislikes the Trwyth is because they view them as Elf bootlickers who do not do things just. I still haven't decided a name for them, yet, but they're Scottish similarly to how the Trwyth are Welsh.

TipsyRa1d3n In reply to FrumpyEagle [2018-08-27 21:29:08 +0000 UTC]
- All things considering, the Gnolls wouldn't be so much evil, as much as EXTREMELY underdeveloped as a society, and given great power by evil forces. Leading them to often use these same powers for violent means. Often, but not always.
Kind of like how the Salarians uplifted the Krogan into sapience. Leading them to become a violent society with a lot of in-fighting. But capable of fighting for good causes.
- Meanwhile, this rivaling race. Hmm...HOW ABOUT...
--------------------
The Boibhre (pronounced Bow-Bray)
- Based off of a real Scottish legend, the Boibhre (anglicized as "Boobrie) are a race of large (i.e. eight feet tall), shapeshifting avians most often resembling Cormorants, Great Auks, or Ducks. Often stealing livestock from transportation boats, they often weaved tall tales about themselves, such as a supposed ability to grow gigantic, transform into a water horse, or drive people made just by looking into their eyes.
However...the jig was up when they were faced with something even MORE dangerous: The Nuckelavee. And it was thus revealed that most of their "great power" was all talk, when the Nuckelavee easily overpowered them, and stole their lakeside home from them.
The Boibhre decided to do things fair. Because when they were left high and dry, people distrusted them. They would not help them. Leading to their decision to earn their help, and become better than they were before. As a result, becoming a very self-sufficient people.
Which leads to their disdain for the Trwyth, whom they see as unjustly favoring Elves above all other races. Despite the fact that they had done NOTHING to earn that credit, and have made utter fools of themselves. And they will not suffer that.
-------------------
Whatcha think dude?? Hope you like it!!

I would like to introduce, the Kutkh! Inspired by the raven god of many Eastern Siberian tribes such as the Koryak, these anthropomorphic ravens are a nomadic, shamanic race hailing from a kingdom they lost eons ago.
Before: The Kutkh were considered tricksters, thieves, heretics, not even used as slaves because they were considered bad omens and vicious perverts, as they were known for their use of magic and sex-based thaumaturgy. They lived on the fringes of society, forced to become criminals just to keep their wandering bands alive.
After: Being nomads and masters of efficient magic/thaumaturgy, the Kutkh were the perfect people to help facilitate exploration, trade, and diplomacy across the kingdoms. Whereas before when a Kutkh band showed up in town people feared for the safety of their children, they now celebrate the arrival of the best navigators, translators, explorers, and archeologists in the Kingdoms.
NOTE: Still though, probably a good idea to lock the doors when the Kutkh show up. Just like their mythological counterpart, the Kutkh are famous for their trickster nature and virility for a reason, so when they leave town they take most of the V-cards and leave plenty of laughs, often at others expense. They aren't malicious, just fun-loving.

Ooh!! Neat dude!
So basically, half-raven handsome rogues with a penchant for trickery, world exploration, and an extra side of virility! Love it. ^^
Perhaps with a particular keenness for seducing certain races, such as Holstaurs, Swanmay, and Merfolk.
If this is getting a Part 2, definitely gonna include the Kutkh! ^^

Less rogues, more wanderers. They were criminals by circumstance, not by choice, so now that they can make honest money helping people they do so.
A note on their clothing before you go on drawing them, the Kutkh tend to dress in very colorful clothing with a lot of colorful embroidery and beads. They're also all at least a little on the androgynous side, so it can be hard exactly to tell what gender a Kutkh is until the long coats come off. They, of course, use this to prank perverts, pick up artists, and horndogs XD

You know what's kinda funny? I thought about including Kenku from D&D into the sheet. Although since I wanna hand the title of half-raven humanoid over to the Kutkh...
...I'm gonna make the Kenku half-Potoo. XD
Stealthy as heck. Cunning to a fault. Vagabonds and burglars. And yet STILL able to fool people into thinking they're idiots! What else can you ask for??
So much so that even the Kutkh are cautious of them. And these days, wiser races prefer the company of prankster Kutkh, over a silly-looking Potoo person who may secretly have malicious intentions in mind...

You forgot the Living Toys. And the spectrals might still need a bit more lore-tweaking, but as for something like this, it shouldn't be hard to come up with one for them. The picture is the problem. Do you draw their true form, or their appearance within a vessel? If the latter, which sort of vessel? Anyway, here is how I'd do the before and after thing:
Before: Formless spirits born of a magical anomaly that gives them only 2/3 of an existence. Those who do not find a body will slowly descend into madness before eventually dissipating into complete non-existence.
After: With Vessels to bind themselves to, they have a full existence. Brilliant mages with a particular affinity for summoning, they are often seen as uncomfortable to be around since their faces never change yet their emotions are the same as any other race's. They often keep elemental animal familiars as assistants and pets. The pursuit of knowledge regarding magic in all its forms give them purpose. Their vessels come in many different humanoid-shaped varieties.
And yes, I DO want some of these to become recurring characters. Like Daisy the Florina, the crying one you drew. She misses her many sisters that were lost to them and lives in a greenhouse surrounded by normal plants, tending to them as if they were her lost sisters. Some say she has gone insane from the stress her kind had almost never known before, but she is just too scared to go out and decided to name her plants after her sisters as a sign of respect to their memories. Talking to plants help them grow, so she isn't insane, just very very sad.... (I imagine local teenage boys often visit to watch her when she photosynthesizes. Her entire body has to be used to absorb the sunlight, so they always get a perfect view of her small, yet cute breasts being presented to the afternoon sun. She doesn't mind them watching, but is too innocent to understand why they have such a fascination with her nectar-production organs.)

All things considering, I did figure I missed quite a few! Was kinda considering doing a second one, albeit that'll probably be after I do more world-building first!
- I think I had difficulty in actually depicting a Spectral, because it's essentially shapeless. I WAS thinking of making it essentially a big, ghostly hand that goes into a vessel, and "puppeteers" it in a sense. Buuuut I thought that'd be corny.
Still, if inside a vessel, uncanny valley would DEFINITELY play into why other races are unsettled by them!
- Awww, Daisy...that's actually really sad! XC To be so young, innocent, and already have lost so much. I've a feeling that if she WERE to become a recurring character, it'd be something involving her greenhouse getting destroyed by something. And her being rescued from her garden before plant-eating monsters could gobble her up!
If anything...her story would be not forgetting the people she lost. But gaining new friends to support her, and tell her everything will be okay. Tell her that they'll help her live through this.
And...probably to tell her to put on some clothes, until they're better informed. XDD

Her greenhouse gets destroyed?! T-T I was thinking it would be more of a coming-out-of-her-shell sort of character arc. She doesn't want a hero's journey, just some friends! And she could probably just grow her head-vines to cover them if everyone seems so oddly offended by them.
How about instead of a recurring character, I write up a character-specific short story? I might do that for other races too. Like perhaps that Holstaur could actually be Laura's mom while she was still a baby and her story could be about trying to keep a good life going for her new daughter when the harvest that year wasn't the best.
Also, a quick question: Would the air elementals inside the tornadoes be able to count as familiars for a Spectral? I don't want to imply that Spectrals are the ONLY ones that keep familiars, but that could be an option if you'd rather not throw them into the mix of magic already established. Though the elementals you mentioned could also be their own race that happens to span different elements. Therefore not being animals and thus not familiars. A warrior can be contracted to be summoned, but the only summons that can be kept indefinitely would likely be elemental familiar animals since they wouldn't die. They are literally concentrated sentient beings of pure magic governed by a single specific element in the shape of an animal small enough to be kept as a pet or companion. You can't kill magic energy.
An uncanny valley sort of thing is EXACTLY what they give off when you first meet them. Like I said before, their vessel could be many different forms. As long as it is:
-functionally humanoid
-inorganic
-is not an overly-inconvenient size
If all of those are met, it should be fine. Puppet, android, suit of armor, inactive golem, conveniently-arranged group of rocks, life-sized wood carving of a bear, statue, very large chibi anime girl figurine, some mix of those things, all of that is viable.
Side-note, from the perspective of a plant, herbivores would be super-scary monsters. THIS is sort of what a deer would be in her mind: canyouactually.com/wp-content/… XD

Hoohooh!! It sure is! XD
Spent a good chunk of my day on this too, but definitely liking how it came out. ^^ May do another one at some point, but that goes by the wayside!
Still! Which ones of these are your favorites??

I immediately loved the Goblins upon seeing them! xD I love how you made them use magitech in order to compensate for their otherwise mediocre battle capacity! Not to mention, biker Goblins??? Sign me up! xD
Gnomes are admittedly favorites of mine simply due to their base concepts ^^ And of course, you adapted them to FantasTech without ruining their charm! The same could be said about Pixies!
I also have a weakness for vampires so Batlings were sure to be apart of my favorites as well!
Of course, I won't talk about the Elves, wouldn't have made an Elvish character if I didn't like them! xD

Is it weird that the human reminds me of General Jinjur for some reason?

Still, do hope you like it! This took a while! @_@

Of course I do, it's all pretty well thought out, some really decent world building here
Also, the Swanmay reminds me of someone too, can't put my finger on it though, hmm...
