Thanks! I love it too. Sometimes coming back to my work with a fresh pair of eyes makes all the difference. We see things at first blush with a certain impulsive wonder. But later at second blush, something else kicks in. And this is that.

So, you WERE NOT trying to produce a side-by-side image of the "same exact moment in time" but in reversed order (front & back). But rather, an image that was obviously taken at different times, but yet somehow magically merged together...right? I say this because of the different foot placement on the girl. Regardless, it's a cool photo!

In Kalari they go through a series of poses or movements that are the same no matter which way they're facing. In each of the two images I used for this piece Andrejs and Nicole were doing the same poses and movements. In one they were facing me and in the other they reversed their direction and so were facing away from me. I was in the same position for both, although hand holding the camera would render slight shifts no matter how still I was standing. (In this case I was squatting.) There was no attempt at the time we were shooting to create identical front to back images of the poses. It's something I saw much later in going through the images. And yes, Nicole's right foot is different in each image, which is likely a result of the extremely sharp salt formations they were working on. I don't know how they were able to have the tops of their feet against it all. It's possible that Nicole's body simply made the choice for her. That their positions are this similar in two completely different routines points to the amazing skill and discipline each of them has and how skillfully they have mastered the artform of Kalari. Working with them was one of the most wonderful experiences I've ever had in my 30 years of shooting pro.

Hey, thanks for the in-depth explanation. It's nice to have details about the more intriguing images like this one. Sometimes I like having to wonder about certain photo's and artwork...but sometimes I want to know.
