believe it or not, some of the newer planes are less complicated than the older ones, many systems streamlined and automated, dispensing with the need for a Flight Engineer......very few airliners left anymore with a 3-seat cockpit.

it,s true. a big vacuum will soon exist in The Industry, and some jobs/careers just can,t be outsourced......!{some are forbidden by Federal Law too,for reasons of Safety and Accountability.} BTW,do you have a special fave airliner? i,ll build it{if i don,t already have it!} to add to that nasty collection of mine. Too Low Terrain......BWOOP BWOOP! Pull up!!

i love hearing that in flight sim. BTW,i thought 757s had side sticks? Werent these the first Boeing to have side sticks?

TomCatDriver In reply to Greyhound-Bus [2007-09-11 01:01:37 +0000 UTC]

no side-sticks from Boeing yet. and i hope they just leave it that way. WINDSHEAR,WINDSHEARWINDSHEAR!!!!!!! {oh,Christ,how i hate hearing that one,even in a simulator!}

Greyhound-Bus In reply to TomCatDriver [2007-09-11 05:33:06 +0000 UTC]

Ive never heard any of my planes do the "WINDSHEAR WINDSHEAR!" blurt. My other fav one is:

"Glide Slope.....dont stink...BWOOP BWOOP PULL UP!!"

now thats somethin i wanna actually hear.

oh yea! here's another one from a DC-8-73F i have in Emery World Wide colors. It does this when id have full flaps down with the landing gear still retracted.

*weird phone ringing noise* "Landing Gear" *more weird phone ringing noise* "Landing Gear"

TomCatDriver In reply to Greyhound-Bus [2007-09-12 08:41:51 +0000 UTC]

the MD-80 had a female voice we used to call "Bitching Betty",and she had quite a vocabulary! FIRE,RIGHT ENGINE! FIRE,LEFT ENGINE! FA-LAPS! LANDING GEAR! ALTITUDE,ALTITUDE! FIRE,A.P.U.! TCAS SYSTEM TEST O.K./FAIL! STALL,STALL,STALL! shrieking tone,WINDSHEAR,WINDSHEAR!!!!! BANK ANGLE! long gone from our fleet now.

Greyhound-Bus In reply to TomCatDriver [2007-09-16 20:15:10 +0000 UTC]

Delta still has their MD88s and American has their Md80s,81s and 83s. Bitchin Betty is famous of the F-16 and a few F-18s.I swear....ive never heard that windshear tone before. I even tried setting flight sim with severe windshear condition. Ever tried landing a 757 with a 8knot breeze and 40knot gusts? lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TomCatDriver In reply to Greyhound-Bus [2007-09-17 00:27:12 +0000 UTC]

winglets do save fuel, but Xwind landings are a bit tougher/trickier with them,it is very noticeable! FlightSim is still no substitute for The Real Stuff!

Greyhound-Bus In reply to TomCatDriver [2007-09-17 12:19:06 +0000 UTC]

well i cant jus strap myself into the Cap seat of a 757 and stick out a crosswind landing lol. Some people arent pilots for a living.

had a look in BusLady,s place, wonder if it,s safer in the air or on the road? looks like she,s had a few Close Calls in her time! i,m sure you,ve had a few Beauties too, right? what kind of laws does OH have regarding cel-phones in a moving vehicle?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Greyhound-Bus In reply to TomCatDriver [2007-09-17 12:33:08 +0000 UTC]

dont get me started on the cell phone deal. We actually dont have any laws regarding driving and being on the phone....but dammit we should. Every person that has cut me off on the highway or drifted over on me or poked along in the fast lane at 50mph were on their cell phones. folks jus dont pay attention when they'er talkin too....whoever! i know in Buffalo, NY, it's a law that you wear hands free head sets or have the hands free set up in your car to talk on the cell phone. we should have that here.

As far as close calls go...ive had a fair amount while driving with my Uncle in his Semi.

some states are stricter than others. in WA,it,s a $500 fine,5 license points and the points stay on for 5 YEARS,along with lots of insurance surcharges in the meantime. and that,s for a First Offense....!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TomCatDriver In reply to SwiftFlyer [2007-09-02 17:39:23 +0000 UTC]

i did get a decal sheet for a Zantop Electra, just got to build it! i know, people just don,t pay too much attention to freighters, but they are important{and profitable!} i did also finish a Big Purple Federal Express DC-10 and 727-200,so the Freight Dogs are not forgotten!

SwiftFlyer In reply to TomCatDriver [2007-09-02 20:44:58 +0000 UTC]

Go for the Zipper! I worked for them at Macon, Georgia back in the 80's. Be sure to get it clean below the red line before inspection! I was a senior mechanic (that was the title if I remember correctly) and we did the heavy checks on the Electra's and converted DC-8s into freighters. They came in with lots of seats and went out with bigger doors and a clear cabin. I also worked on Electras for Interstate Airlines (also DC-9s and 727s), then to Eastern, then Northwest, then Air Continental (they flew Aerostars hauling cancelled checks out of Norwalk, Ohio). I did get to fly the jump seat on the L-188, DC-6, DC-8 and 727.

Roger,Wilco! will also later make a good,ol Dizzy-6 to go next to the Electra.{luckily,Zipper had a nice, simple color-scheme} man,you know i always make a nice, clean model...wish the real ones were that clean and polished, just think of the fuel savings....!

SwiftFlyer In reply to TomCatDriver [2007-09-05 01:13:42 +0000 UTC]
