it,ll be a long road to get there. you,ll probably start out as an F/O on commuter/regionals nowadays. i started out as an F/E on 727,s but Flight Engineers are an Endangered Species lately. thx for the fave....

Sorry for the late reply...been a busy day. Anyways, yeah I've done a little research on becoming a pilot, and Im well aware of how difficult it is to become one these days. Im only 18 now, so im really focusing hard so I can enter the work force
Good thing I've enlisted in the South Carolina Air National Guard. After basic training I'll be an Air Traffic Controller, so that will definitely give me an advantage over the intense competition.
Oh one last thing. It is a real honor to be replying to a real Airline Pilot.

enlisted...that,s as good a place to start as any....! yep,so many things that do require government money to make them happen. someone i knew wanted to become a medevac chopper pilot, but just the training, hours and type-ratings that any possible employers were demanding would have gone into the MILLIONS of dollars! have fun paying out-of-pocket for that,eh?

plus the military is paying for school too. That'll definitely help in the long run. I definitely don't want to be in debt, while working for a regional airline. If im lucky I might reach my goal of becoming a 757 captain at the age of 35-37'ish. Something like that...

don,t worry, they,ll get their money,s worth out of your hide! but it,s just about the only way to make it nowadays, really. as for a certain someone i knew,it will never really happen, but you may have a decent chance/opportunity at the Big-Time....don,t blow it!

pilots are almost a "dime-a-dozen" lately! one group the industry will be needing is skilled and licensed technicians to keep the big birds airworthy and safe. might be a good idea to get an Airframe&Powerplant license too. it,s how i got my foot in the door at my employer so long ago!

I really do appreciate your advice, its made even more confident entering the field of Aviation.
I got to go now, but I have one last question. Can you say that you love being a pilot? I know I love airliners but I know that there are other things about being a pilot then what I already know.

as well as playing airport security,s silly games, living in hotel rooms, hurrying up and waiting, and going to so many places around the world, and yet not really getting a chance to actually see and enjoy them......! so frustrating! but it goes with the job, after all.

yeah. Im also considering using my experience with ATC to be a civilian controller just in case things dont work out. When I first realized that becoming a pilot was going to be a lot more difficult than I thought, I started searching for alternate plans...just in case things dont work out

UA,s 757s with Pratt engines are like antiques compared to our state-of-the-art RR RB-211s....

And They Sound So Beautiful As Well! I Think The RB211's Are What Gives The 757's There Reputation For Efficiancy.
Still Not Ready For PW Powered 757's To Enter Our FLeet Wonderful Choice United
They Could Be Saving A Truckload Of Money! They Can't Even Afford Winglets For There 757's And 763's, So We Have To Buy Them For UA
UA Is Literally The Only U.S. Carrier Who Hasn't Put Winglets On There 763's!

Seriously?! Oh, This Just Keeps Getting Better And Better
So Now We Merged With An Airline Who Flies 772's On Domestic Flights! Awesome! No Wonder They Are Loosing Money
They Could Have CF6-80 Powered 763's With Winglets And GE90 Powered 772's With ETOPS And Be Earning Something, Yet, They Haven't Done Any Of That. They Are Determaned To Fail
Another Thing That Drives Me Crazy Is How We Have To Put Up With The A319's And A320's.

Good We Can Start With Getting Rid Of The Airbus', The Older...Well The Oldest Of UA's Fleet (I Think The Fleets Average Age Is 14.2 Years, I Could Be Wrong), Cancelling A350 Orders, Slap Glenn Tilton In The Face And Prune The Weeds (Bad Employees.) But Lets Keep N777UA As A Trophy
