again, i'm tired of seeing bad artwork created with bases so i made this. i hope it will help someone. this took me a long time so i hope people will pay attention to it.oh and if you don't have the Paint.net program i mentioned, just type it in on google and you should be able to find the cite. that's the program i make all of my bases on for any of you who actually like them.
i have nothing more to say i guess . . .

Honestly only thing that bugs me here is the shirt thing. Some shirts are skin tight Alot of mine are, so only place you need wrinkles are at the end, waist and boobs, oh and armpits.

My only MAJOR problem is I'm horrid at shading so I usually don't try. It doesn't end up TOO bad, especially when it's in a more cutsey style.

When I'm feeling lazy and don't want to use SAI, I like to use MS Paint. People think it's crap, but you can make art like the ones above just as easy!
And this was a great tutorial. Simple yet VERY helpful!

well, for some things it might be out of peoples talent range like mine. and some painting programs dont have all the correct tools for that.

It's not really about talent, it's about patience. Anyone can take the time to look closely at a reference and make sure they copy it to the best of their ability. Some people may be able to do this in five minutes, but for some people it could take hours or days, but I have no doubt in my mind that anyone could do it if they truly wanted to.

Takes me over a month working 8-12 hours straight to finish one of my dolls. Still not as good as my friend who got me into it -shrug- eh, practice makes perfect!

This helps a lot! I have to admit I was horrible when I first started using bases (But not like the top- I was only slightly better) but over time I have gotten better (like here- lillybug16.deviantart.com/art/… ) Though I will admit I'm not the best at folds & shoes -.- I'm getting there though

Yes, the shading would be a lot thinner because the shirt would be close to the skin. I would go to zerochan.net and search "tank top" to look for some good references of what I mean.

Can I just say something.
One thing in this bothers me, and that is the title. 'Dolling the right way.'
There is no 'right' way to do anything art related. Not everyone wants to make some super complex doll that takes ten hours to finish. Some people just like to make simple things for fun. Saying there is a 'right' way to do something is a little bit silly. I mean I get what you're saying, they can look pretty bad but that can mean one of two things. 1) They aren't experienced yet and need to work. or 2) They're just making something as a joke.
Of course I may be forgetting things in that.
This is a very helpful thing, yes, however it makes it seem like the only way to doll is to make a something that takes so long you may as well spend the time trying to perfect your own drawing skills. That isn't what dolling is. If someone wants to do it that is great, but dolling is a way for those of us who aren't skilled yet to make things as though we did have that skill, or to just make something quick and fun.
To put my comment in shorter terms, dolling and drawing alike don't need to be complicated, simple is good too. Just make it look as good as you can and never forget that you can always get better.
