Hey guys, I've received several print requests for this thing. I've had it as a print in my shop for quite some time now, so please drop by and check it out! [link]The image is 6'9" tall on canvas that's about 7'4" tall. Relief print with screened color and painted color (blue). This is part of my ongoing undergraduate print series that deals with the issues that children's stories/TV programs don't address. The overall notion here is that most children's programming consists of promoting good habits, good morals, good good good. However, in order for something to be understood as "good," there has to be something bad for it to contrast with. this particular print somewhat deviates from that because I simply wanted to exaggerate the "bear" part of the Care Bears.

Ahhahaha! This is so amazing. I wish I had come up with that idea. I've done the opposite- cute little cartoon bears with images of skulls and bombs and such on their bellies- but I like yours so much more!

I saw this - once I read your description about tv shows - as a piece about how even the bad in shows is good. For instance, grumpy bear from the care bears is still good. He's disturbed, cranky, and an asshole to everyone, yet he is still good? Seeing this, I thought it was grumpy bear, but then I see that it's sleepy bear. Perhaps if it were grumpy bear it would fit into your other work better?
Other than that, great job on it. I wish I could experience it in real life.

I concur. However, this particular print isn't really dealing with that. As I said in my notes on it, this one deviates from my thesis a bit by just me wanting to emphasize that the Care Bears are, in fact, Bears, which are dangerous when provoked. Other prints in the series, such as "Carenobyl" address my thesis in a more pure form. While we do see bad guy characters, these are isolated events within their world. A bad guy here or there are taken as social extremes. I want to address some of the less prevalent bad things in these worlds, or perhaps some of the more complex things that children wouldn't necessarily be able to comprehend.
