Description This was taken in Little Cottonwood Canyon near SLC, Utah.

As you can the area has received more snow that it has in decades, and the snow effects almost every living thing inhabiting the area.

For us, the commute to work is slowed and is more dangerous, while animals like deer and elk are fighting for their lives trying to find enough food under the enormous amount of snow.

What drew me to this small exposed section of the stream was the texture of the deep snow piled high above. The texture was created by the recent storm along with gravity pulling loose snow down into the stream. Also the shape of the rocks created some nice lines through the image.

Full view helps.

Canon 5D. 24-105mm. HDR. Circ Polar

Like a painting, just beautiful.

Did you do anything special to get these results?

Thanks man,

First, its an HDR, and the images used were all long exposure (you knew that), other than that I just increased the contrast a little in photoshop and saturated the colors of the rocks a bit.

Ah, I wasnt even looking at the water for the most part, now the rock bugs me. xD

I was mostly refering shadows on the snow underneath your disgusting watermark

When you do your long exposure shots, do you use a monopod, tri-pod, or just straight up gloves. o:
I find that a tri-podis hard to carry and set up in the snow, and my hands are too shaky during the longer hikes.

I have a monopod, although I havent used it in a while.

If you dont know what a monopod is, (because even alot of experianced photographers dont seem to..) it is simply a one pole mounth rather than the Tri-pod which has three.
It makes for easier transportation, and provides enough supportto stop the camera from shaking.

Its great for me as Im usually on the go taking a fairly brisk pace during the colder months, but also useful as a WALKING STICK during the summer months, as you can just go for hours and hours without needing to stop.

If you get one at some point my only advice is to get one with a Large spike.
The camera shop only had unspiked and small point in stock, so I took and small point and its not as great as advertised, as it couldnt dent ice or rotting woods, had some trouble with frozen ground as well. xD

Tripod. Monopod wouldn't cut it for a 30 second exposure.

Yep, I was expecting that response.

I knew of all my watchers you'd appreciate this one. I told you there was still plenty of snow. I'll submit a few more real snowy shots before the winter's through.

Wow! awesome shot...make me want to come back and play in the snow some more. We don't get any snow like that here in NC. Great capture!

Hey, thanks a lot. We've got plenty of snow to go around so come on up here.

I can't remember a winter with more snow, we needed it too because we've had a drought the last few years.

haha, I can see that mistake.

I figured I'd better submit these winter pics before spring arrives and nobody wants to see them anymore.
