Description
"Frollo's formidable reputation was such that it spread all over France, and even parts of Europe. He was a pitiless judge, a severe master and a ruthless tyrant, imperious in his ways and inscrutable in his thoughts....
Above all, Frollo was known for his coldness and, some said, incorruptibility. He was a man made out of iron and not blood. He would just as easily hang a nobleman as he would a thief. Six years ago, he caused a scandal among the French nobility when one of the sons from the House of Foix-Grailly was caught in a brawl and the father tried to bribe Frollo to overlook the matter. Both father and son were sentenced to the dungeons for a month. When Louis XI, who was on friendly terms with the family, interceded on their behalf, Frollo cited Louis XI's own ordinances regarding crime. It was a hazardous step, for Louis XI was infamous for his grudges. It was fortunate for Frollo that Louis XI valued him as a scholar and man of great intellect and agreed with Frollo's position in the end.
The consensus among everyone, whether commoner, gypsy, or noble, was that it was best not to cross paths with Frollo."
From Chapter 2 of my fanfic. [link]
Tried my hand at a realistic portrayal (whew!). References to Peter Cushing (I can't be the only one who thinks Frollo bears a striking resemblance to him!). Am quite pleased at how this turned out.

What was said below in a comment: Peter Cushing would have made a great Frollo. But I also was thinking, some of the actors from Joan of Arc with LeeLee Sobieski, such as....Peter O'Toole.

I haven't watched Joan of Arc before, but I know who Peter O'Toole is and he is definitely a possibility. Did you know that ABC is going to make a series focused on Esmeralda? I hope that in a live adaptation they'll cast someone younger for Frollo though. He is supposed to be 36 in the book after all, haha.

Yes I saw that on the Esmeralda community. Someone there made me really mad LOL ( I get emotional what can I say) about how they thought Esmeralda mocked and seduced men and wasn't a good choice to narrate that series. Now if this person had read the book, they would have seen that yes, the character in the book was not my favorite..she was young, naive, and focused solely on Phoebus, who was depicted as a callow lad. But the Disney Esmeralda...who could be any kinder, stronger, tough ( she had to RESCUE Phoebus, stands up to Frollo, helps Quasimodo)? Yeah she was a dancer and she was streetwise, but that's how she made her living. There wasn't anything dirty about it. Although I'm the first to say when I saw the movie HoND back in 1996, I was 28, and even I was like, what??? This is a DISNEY movie? That Hellfire scene=my fave villain song of all time. Frollo=fave villain and my personal obsession. Esmeralda=fave heroine and the most adult-drawn of all the heroines and princesses. She was NO Cinderella. But that is why I liked her.
Yes, the book to me was intense, and admittingly hard to read. But I liked it because it really focused a great deal on Frollo's psychology. I think it was said somewhere that Victor Hugo was entranced by the daughter of the King of Spain, and he based Esmeralda on her, but that Frollo was part of his own psychological analysis. Either way, the book really went into Frollo's headspace, if you catch my drift LOL.
In terms of the movie Frollo, I thought Sir Cedric Hardwicke was more like the Disney Frollo than anyone else who played him. He had that look, sinister and remote, and obsessed with Esmeralda. He wore black velvet and rode that horse.
I forgot the name of the actor who played this OTHER guy in Joan of Arc. He goes to Peter O'Toole and wants Joan burned at the stake. He wears black and has a very saturnine look. He also was in the TITANIC ( British actor, not well known though) playing the guy with a moustache who felt that the Titanic really was UNSINKABLE.

I think the consensus is that Disney must have taken quite a bit of inspiration from the 1939 version. With Frollo, they turned him into a Minister etc. etc.

I forgot who played Esmeralda in there, I think it was Maureen O'Hara. She wasn't my idea of a gypsy dancer but hey, it was the 1930's after all. There's strong similiarities too when she's in the church and looking and praying to the statue of Mary as well.
Honestly? I thought I was totally weird for being obsessed with Frollo and Esmeralda, and the whole Hellfire/lust thing. I went completely crazy collecting tons and tons of things from the Disney catalog and the store and everywhere else, and managed to really luck out with a Disney artist who made the resin and wax maquettes for a lot of the collectibles, as well as having worked on the film itself. She was looking to get rid of these little maquettes, sketches and things, and sold them to me for a great price. I NEVER will get rid of those. They're true treasures.
Then somehow I found the Frollo Forum and wrote this lonnnnnng and dark S and M type story called Darkness Bound. I learned there were lots of other Frollo and HoND fans out there. Of course to my dismay, most of the sites died, but then I found Deviantart LOL, and was pleasantly surprised to see so many fans here!

I recently just watched Star Wars: A New Hope, and I was thinking that Peter Cushing would be an excellent choice as Frollo realistically. Great job, a really nice piece of art!

I came here some weeks ago and am surprised ( pleasantly) that there is such a huge number of Fresme fans...17 years after the movie came out. I got obsessed with that movie and Frollo in particular. I thought, am I a lunatic or what? And then I joined all the old sites back then, the Frollo Forum and the Palace of Justice, The Fireplace, etc, and found there were like-minded obsessed Frollo fangirls. I love it. This site here has so much artwork it's amazing.

This is such a lovely drawing. The details are breath-taking. Are you also going to do a portrait like this one for Esme?
Also, you need to post chapter three! The story so far is so awesome!

For my fic, I've already written several chapters and am editing them. So hopefully chapter 3 will be up soon.

That's true. There are lots of options for Esme. I think Nataniele Ribiero could make a good Esme. Many people say Megan Fox could also be an option but I just don't see her as Esme. Oh, well, good luck!
