Is there any advantage to using AviUtl over Sony Vegas? I know this is just the basics, but so far it's looking like all of these things can be done simpler in Vegas.

No there's no advantage of using AviUtl over Sony Vegas other than the fact that the former is free. The latter offers much more, but of course it's payware. But for the MMD hobbyist who only needs a decent video editing software to use on a casual basis, AviUtl is ideal. In terms of output (end product) for MMD use it's great.

Ahh, I see. It's kind of like what GIMP or Paint.NET are to Photoshop, a free alternative that'll get the job done if you need something simple. Thanks for the reply!

Software in the end is ultimately what you do with it. You can have the best software in the world for a specific task and still fail if you lack the skill to use it properly or you can do wonders with a very simple package such as MMD.

>>> Only 30fps at the moment.
Aw, shucks. Still got used to Sony Vegas more anyway. Though wait, I know one dude who made a couple of 60fps vids, and he told he was using AviUtl to edit them! How's that then?
Nevertheless, thanks for the download links, when I tried to Google them myself I failed, because I don't know Japanese.

It's possible that your friend got a plugin to allow the program to work with 60 fps data, but personally, I can't really tell much difference between 60 fps and 30 fps. Supposedly 60 fps is better/smoother but personally, I think it's like the Emperor's New Clothes - it's all in your head. But then again that maybe just me...

Dunno, for me 60fps is obviously smoother, especially if there are a lot of fast-paced action going on.
And thanks for the hint on the plugin, that explains it. Maybe I'll try AviUtl then, hoping it is less RAM-glutton than Vegas.

YW.
This is just my way of saying: "I told you so..." ^^
For MMD 30 fps is just fine
For really dynamic computer games 60 fps is arguably better

Thanks, but no, I don' need that, unless I'm gonna deliver a story with a slideshow. Tastes differ though

With the English GUI, it's really easy to use. Plus it's really powerful and there are plenty of tutorials around on how to use it. And if you don't like it, it deletes clean and you'll lose nothing except time, since it's free.
