Description
UPDATED 06-05-2016I've been meaning to update this tutorial for yonks using the more contemporary (and easier) method of making an MMD model hold a microphone for sometime but never got around to it till now. So here it is.
Corrected grammar in panel.
The original tutorial using the older method of doing this is still included with Rin Chan's Rainbow Microphone Pack D/L: MMD Accessory - Rainbow Microphone Pack
The silver and gold microphones are included in this set: MMD Accessory - articulated Microphone Stand
A more flashy set of microphones are here: MMD Accessory Illuminated LED Microphones
This version of IAx can be downloaded here: bowlroll.net/file/104776

You have to download it and install it separately. It does not come with the PMDe/PMXe as standard.

Hi there! I am working with the Lost One's Weeping motion by hestiasama and in the motion the mic switches hands... any thoughts on how hestia might have done that without excruciating pain XD Thank you!

Transferring objects held in one hand to another is very easy to do. There is a tutorial on how to do it in my tutorials gallery: fav.me/d7ih8r9

I have a slight issue where the model being held (pmx) lags behind during editing (sorta jiggles about when the model moves), and then doesn't actually show up during the rendering! nuts!!
Any suggestions? I'd change the pmx to x, but it loses its spas and looks kinda... ehh....
for now, I'll keep tinkering and figure it out

If the PMX model is small, like a microphone, you shouldn't be having issues. If you're trying to hold another full size model, like Miku trying to hold Neru, yeah you're going to have issues as there's stuff like physics for your PC to have to deal with.

I see! It's a little potion bottle model, but perhaps because it has a Lid bone, facial sliders, and is probably high-poly, MMD is just havin' some trouble.
That's alright! X format is working better, and the animation mostly hides the lack of spas anyway.
Thanks so much!

You can add them using the semi-standard bone plugin in either the PMD or PMX Editors.

Ah, I just attach to the fingers if there's no dummy bone and then just move it around with the accessory manip panel

YW. Those hand attachment bones really becomes useful. Not sure why they didn't have them as standard originally.

how would you make the mmd model ONE by mdql hold the mic? how can you add two poses to one model too?

Trackdancer In reply to TheeMonkeyPrince [2015-12-20 21:32:32 +0000 UTC]
This tutorial explains how to make a mmd model hold a mic, but this was done awhile ago (the tutorial). More contemporary mmd models now have a dummy/attachment bone in their hands which are used for attaching and holding objects but the same principle as outlined in the tutorial applies.
You can lose multiple poses on to a model unless the pose data accesses the same bones, in which case the new data overwrites the previous data loaded.

Trackdancer In reply to WalkingWithPingu [2014-10-16 18:24:00 +0000 UTC]
Same principle applies, but if I remember correctly, the Ranka model has an object attachment bone in her hands by default - and if she does, the mic goes there.

Sadly, all the parts are marked as numbers, I don't know which one......Aaaaaand my MMD can't open.

Trackdancer In reply to WalkingWithPingu [2014-11-14 19:12:58 +0000 UTC]
You need to translate the bone names in the PMD editor - but Ranka by Pon does have a mic attachment bone as standard. Its the one in each of her palms.

How do you make models hold other models? (pmd model holding another pmd model) Because some items seem like they should be .x file items but are .pmd files because they have moving parts such as a mini harp.

There's a tutorial on how to hold pmd/pmx objects in my tutorials gallery - you will also need MMD 9.x to do it.

Actually, I've never really tried it. I d/l'd the motion yonks ago but I wasn't really hot about it so haven't messed with it since. But switching an object between the model's hands or having them hold stuff isn't hard. There are several other tutorials on this subject in my tutorial gallery.
