Description

M.O.G.U.E.R.A.

Intro:  During the brief campaign of the Earth kaiju, Godzilla, Rodan, Kong, and Anguirus, against the Guilalan hordes threatening the artificial Planet X, much coordination and cooperation was managed between the international human expedition and the inhabitants of the lost space colony that called themselves Morlocks.  The Earth people were treated as honored guests and given mostly free range of the subterranean headquarters.  Beyond this, however, there were notable restrictions to much of their facilities, and the few times further exploration was attempted were quickly dissuaded.  These explorations, however brief and fragmentary, generated mixed feelings of the true nature of their hosts.  The boldest account mentioned a vast, subterranean mechanical hangar or factory of some sort, housing huge, indistinguishable metallic constructs.  But the Morlocks assured these were merely utilitarian life-support/mining facilities; nothing the Earthmen need concern themselves with.  Not all doubts were dispelled so easily, and, as hindsight would prove, without good cause…

Story:  Once the decision was made by Earth governments to leave the four kaiju upon Planet X after the Guilalan war was won, the expedition was finally sent homeward.  Over the next few months, the nations of Earth were obsessed with learning as much as possible of the planet’s new neighbors.  Despite various transmissions, the Morlocks maintained an odd, frustrating radio silence, claiming to be recovering their facilities…  Expedition members were interviewed thoroughly, while scientists around the world worked to decrypt the formulas on the Morlock’s golden record.

Amidst such excitement, the first warning signs of what was to come went almost totally ignored.  Strange earthquakes and spontaneous forest fires began to plague rural areas around Mt Fuji, Japan.  Similar disturbances were reported near Edmonton, Canada.  Lake Eyre, in Australia, displayed odd geothermal phenomena.  And waves of uncharacteristic volcanic activity were detected about the Pinacate Peaks region of Mexico.

It was a local police and firefighting force in Japan that first encountered the source of the disruptions.  Thought to have been lost to one of the out-of-control wildfires, a single surviving officer was rescued.  He reported the party stumbling upon an enormous, mechanical monstrosity that erupted from the side of a mountain, and proceeded to wipe out the witnesses with strange energy beams.  His tale was met with unbelief, of course, but after his story began to go viral, and further investigations were made, the hiding game came to an end.

At each of the four localities, four mobile fortresses revealed themselves.  At the same time, the so-called golden record was revealed to be nothing more than a radio amplifier that now broadcasted the Morlock’s ultimatum to the world.  They were claiming the selected areas as colonies of Planet X.  All land and the people within these areas were now to be regarded as subjects to the Morlocks, and interference with their operations would not be tolerated.

Naturally, this sparked outrage and confusion, and military retaliations were enacted almost immediately.  The massive robotic fortresses, designated M.O.G.U.E.R.A. units, were intimidating and significant threats, but coordinated precision strikes of Earth’s combined forces were hopeful of their defeat.  Hopes that were dashed all-too-soon with the arrival of the Morlocks’ new allies…

Suddenly, Godzilla reappeared in Japan, and assisted the local M.O.G.U.E.R.A. fortress in destroying the Earth forces.  Rodan was likewise deployed in Australia, Kong in Canada, and Anguirus in Mexico.  Each of the monsters were accompanied by packs of Guilala, which were revealed not to be an alien infection, but were originally bred by the Morlocks as a natural terraforming agent upon their artificial home, reverse-engineered from Biollante-like kaiju cellular cultures.  And now, like certain fungi, they had infected and overtaken the minds of the four Earth kaiju, who were now subject to direct control.

Altogether, the Earth kaiju and Guilala hordes, directed by the M.O.G.U.E.R.A. command units, and able to be teleported as needed by Morlock technology, formed a seemingly insurmountable invasion and occupation force.  The Morlocks would not reveal their full plans, but it was clear that this invasion was a prelude to something of a more global scale.  As for the citizens that found themselves within occupied territory; the Morlocks’ only comment was that their forces would need sustenance…

Abilities:  The Mobile Operation Geo-Universal Expert Robot Aero-type units, known colloquially as M.O.G.U.E.R.A., serve as mobile command base, armed fortress, and industrial excavator all in one utilitarian package.  From an engineering perspective, they are true marvels of mega-construction, vastly beyond any technical limits humanity has thus far achieved.  The metals that form their outer shells seem to be very dense, yet somewhat flexible alloys of unknown types, possibly modeled after biological kaiju physiologies.  They are powered, likewise, by duel self-regulating nuclear engines that function almost as effectively as a living metabolism.  These generate a highly sophisticated magnetic current system that permeates the body like arteries, and enables dislocated parts to reconnect and self-repair.

Though intimidating, M.O.G.U.E.R.A. units are rarely seen in their fully combined, vaguely humanoid forms.  The upper torso can detach and launch itself free of the lower torso, and both halves can function as fully-sufficient, more specialized units.  The upper half’s arms meet and merge into a sleek, aerodynamic jet-like morph, stabilized by the flexible dorsal fins, and able to attain mach 2 speeds during divebomb flybys.  The lower half, meanwhile, contracts into a massive, armored, drill-like tank, able to move with great flexibility across rough terrain and within solid stone alike.  Each half retains its’ own atomic engine power source, and are even able to beam extra energy between each other should one require more power.  All four units are precisely modular as well, so that should one half suffer extensive damage, one of the other three units can serve as an interchangeable emergency replacement until the damaged unit can be repaired.

Even separated, both flying and tunneling units carry effective defenses and offenses.  Their armor alone is already impervious to most conventional weaponry, but they can also launch EMP bombs to disable enemy electronics and radio transmissions.  The jet unit carries a veritable missile factory that can provide devastating cover fire.  More precise targeting is reserved for a powerful maser beam, generated from its’ eye-like reflectors, which can be fired either as a single stream or as a hail of individual shots.  The tank unit has fewer missiles, but a far more powerful maser generated from its’ anterior drill-array, though this is mostly used to assist smelting ores while tunneling.

While they primarily rely on more freedom of movement in separate forms and ranged weaponry, M.O.G.U.E.R.A. can recombine for melee combat should the need arise.  The upper unit’s arms are tipped with diamond-laced “hands” that serve as simple but effective stabbing and bludgeoning tools.  The lower unit’s tank-like legs enable them to move surprisingly swiftly in wide arcs, while the eye and chest masers are brought to action.  They may also simply use their mass to crush an opponent should they fall beneath their tread-like feet.

Character:  As robots, the M.O.G.U.E.R.A. carry out their programming with cold efficiency.  Though direct control by their masters is possible, they are usually simply given a single goal.  From there, the machine’s viral software is able to adapt its guidelines and tactics as the situation develops.  Only the most unexpected of incontinences force them to pause for further instructions.

M.O.G.U.E.R.A. form the nucleus of each of the four zones of occupation, surveyed mostly by the jet units while the tank units scour the land with mysterious tunnels.  Their programmed orders are broadcast to the Guilala, whom are bred to receive and respond to such signals, and they in turn guide Godzilla, Rodan, Kong, and Anguirus to defend the area as needed.  For now, the ultimate goals of the Morlocks remain unknown.  Various reports by lucky escapees have indicated extensive mining operations are being conducted, as if they are searching for something…
----------------------------------------------------

I've never been very good at mechanical stuff.  So I have no idea how functional all the technical parts I made actually are (though that may not be too relevant anyway given the subject matter), so all I can hope for is that it looks kewl.  Also, just guessing now; NOBODY is guessing who's up next...

A small part of me wants to guess they're trying to find either Red Moon + Erabus (couldn't tell ya why I'm guessing that couple) or Monster X.
But either way, this is a pretty nice design, kinda has "Beast Wars" vibes to it. Will there be a doodle of its separate flying / ground units later, or will it just be the combined version for now?

Saw this coming, although I'm surprised it was MOGUERA first.

So do the Morlocks have Ghidorah as a backup plan?

Also, rule of scary aside, why would they need to eat humans when there's so many more fleshy animals around?

King Ghidorah has already appeared, and as his own villain. I doubt he will be under Morlock control.

This is true, but he's so closely associated with the Xiliens NOT having him show up feels like a waste.

Not really only the showa one had ties to teh Xiliens...in one movie), especially since this King Ghidorah is'nt really an alien.

I actually think it would be more interesting if he just remains his own threat, besides it would be pretty redudent for him to show up again so soon after his first defeat, that's just bad storytelling.

If I had to guess this is more based on the Mysterians than anything else, and we'll probably be having a very different final boss character for this arch.

It's likely a reference to Godzilla: Final Wars; the Morlocks are probably using human captives as food for their soldier/breeder units or harvesting human mitochondria to sutain themselves and their technology, if I had to guess.
