Ohhhhhh….. Kaaaaaay……So, this probably looks like something entirely out of left field for me. After all, as spider-girl points out, what’s this got to do with anything I’ve drawn before? Well, nothing and something… Let me explain…
First of all, as some of you who are familiar with my work may know, the biggest continuing personal art/world-building project of mine is the Nexus universe. The vast majority of the aliens I’ve designed on my own are featured in this project. Now aliens are cool and all, but the human race has a place in this universe too! The primary setting for many Nexus stories is the fifth megannum (megannum=one million years) after the humans’ first contact with Cosmic Civilization.
Secondly, and this is hard for me to admit because I am an insanely private individual… I like anime and manga. Yes, socking as it may seem, I enjoy a select good anime about as much, or even as much as I do speculative and exobiology. Not everything is all aliens, dinosaurs, and monsters with me… though those are all big parts…
Anyway, as for what your eyes behold above, the title pretty much says it all. I’ve been experimenting and practicing with what I can do on my own as far as drawing anime goes. Here, I have specifically illustrated the “chibi” style. Why chibi? Because it’s simple and just sooooo cute! Why all girls? Because I’m a guy. There a problem with a guy liking aliens, dinosaurs, monsters, AND girls? I think not!
As for the images themselves, it’s mostly just practice sketches. The colored ones are the main focus, and they are: (left page, bottom right) an insect chimera girl, specifically a butterfly/mantis/tarantula girl, who seems pretty pissed; (right page, top) a mermaid girl who dreams of flying; (right page, bottom left) a naga girl with a taste for metal/punk style; (right page, bottom right) a harpy or angel-like girl all nice-and-proper-like as I’ve always thought something like that would be.
All these girls could possibly fit in somewhere in the Nexus universe in the various settings of the 5th Megannum Human race. Aren’t they Kawaii! XDRelated content

It´s fun that you like monster girls and manga. Did you see my suggestion for a drawing challenge on mail?
While they are all cute and cool, it is the mermaid I can say is especially interesting with its head decorations which reminds me of that monster make-up game show "Face Off". Are these pink pieces fins or gills?

Good Choice, A Certain Scientific Railgun is really one my best favorite animes and the main character "Misaka Mikoto" is on my top three best female anime characters list where she comes in the second place

Trying something new and different is often the best thing an artist can do! It's often the most difficult thing to do at the same time, but it adds improvement and widens the array of ability that said artist has!
These are great sketches.
It's nice to see the path you took, where you drew one figure, then practiced a bit, and continued to the next page.
The little dialogue they have is great too. xD

I wasn't originally going to do much with them. I just started sketching, then after seeing how well it turned out I began to make some more refined and carefully constructed designs. And this is the result.
The dialogue is meant to further express their personalities, and by extent some of my own thoughts. Glad you appreciate it.

Yo Chase! Gotta agree with Raptor. These are pretty good. Better than what I could do. Then again, the last time I tried to draw something, it was a stick figure. About half way through, the stick man jumped off the page, smacked the pencil out of my hand, and wobbled away. . . what can I say, I wasn't done yet.
Anyways!! What sort of anime do you like? I might be able to suggest some.

Well, I'm very particular about picking and choosing an anime I believe I'd like to see. Usually, it's something along the lines of light-hearted, comedic, feel-good type stuff. Some adventure and drama are good too Girls are a prerequisite. Sometimes I like to take a dip into darker realms as well. Anyway, I currently have a little "to-watch/read" list of anime/manga that have caught my interest. But I'm always open to suggestion, so what do you propose?

Clannad and Clannad: After Story. The first season, almost every episode will have you laughing. I had some times I was laughing so hard I was crying. Clannad: After Story, the second season, will hit you in the feels. But make sure to watch it in Japanese with English subtitles. The voice acting is about a million times better.
