Description
Aha!My final project for a feminist performances class. I chose to do a web comic of myself and how I feel about being trans/what trans means to me.
It's part of a more extensive project/paper, creating a new trans narrative not based on self/societal hatred or violence, the denial of the former self, etc. Just because I'm a transman doesn't mean I follow traditional masculinity.
Yes, I paint my nail. I love things that glitter. I am fabulous.
I am and always will be trans, and I'm proud of that.
Sketcher, then Photoshop.

Your so awesome,I wish I had the courage to paint my nails. I'm a transguy as well and I always loved painting them but I worry that it will give my mom one more reason to not believe me, anyway you keep rocking that flamingo pink :3

Aw same here, I'm Β feminine/androgynous FtM and love cute/pretty/pastel stuff and my parents think, especially my dad, that if I'm a guy then I need to drop the feminine things altogether and be masculine. Eww!Β

Plus FtM trans have one thing over male-borns, you can see the different shades of red (scarlet, rouge) but born-males can only see bright and dark red.
It has to do with the X chromosone.

Aw, do you prefer binders over surgery? o3o that's perfectly okay! I myself want to get top surgery, but I don't want testosterone or bottom surgery.Β

I'd like to start testosterone sometime in my life. It's just that surgery has always terrified me lol. I may decide to get it later on in life but for the time being binders are preferable

Trans is identifying as the opposite sex to the one you're born as

ignore sandstorm.
basically, let's say someone is born with a vagina, and a tendency towards growing breasts. basically, born female. this is referred to as DFAB (designated female at birth) or CAFAB (classified as female at birth). some people are comfortable saying biologically female or whatever, depends on who you talk to.Β
this person may be straight, and cis (identifies as female, a.k.a not transgender.) she may also be gay/lesbian, bisexual, pansexual (kind of like bisexual but different), asexual (no sexual feelings), or something else.
this person may, however, be trans (transgender). this person may identify completely as male, or as genderqueer, nonbinary, etc, which is basically a gender identity outside of the male/female binary. he/they may be straight, gay, bisexual, pansexual, asexual, etc.
if this person is transgender, their sexual orientation is based on the gender they identify as. so, a trans guy (female to male, like the comic) who likes girls only would be straight, and who likes guys only would be gay.Β
this also applies to DMAB (designated male at birth) people, but in reverse.
tl;dr: gender and sexuality are not the same time, and it's kind of a mix and match.

Technically, yes. Most trans* people are attracted to the sex they were born as, an ftm being attracted to females, vice versa. But your sex/gender identity doesnt determine your sexuality. If youre a straight male, but is an mtf, then technically youre lesbian. If youre a straight female, but is an ftm, technically youre gay. Ive also heard that some people think theyre bisexual, but really they are just looking at the opposite sexs body because they want theirs to look like that, they dont have feelings for the opposite sex.

SO what i always wondered was, is it also a possibility that one is transgender but homosexual? (that is, ftm attracted to men or mtf attracted to women) (not counting bisexuality/pansexuality)
Just curious.

same as the probability of a cis (not trans) person being gay.

Hey there. So I think this is a sort of answer to your question. Yes it's possible to be both trans* and gay. You can be ftm and exclusively attracted to men. Trans* folks have lots of different sexualities that can get confusing but they're very real.
Me personally? I started out exclusive to women, which made me a lesbian and I identified as such for a long time. Now? I still mostly date women, which to the outside world makes me straight. But I date men of all kinds, too, but I have this awful soft spot for the kinds of guys that write poems and buy me flowers.
Over the years my sexuality has changed as much as my identity and that's been neat to see. Confusing, frustrating, and overwhelming at times as well but I'm happy with the bi/pansexuality ive reached.
Hope that answers some of what you're looking for. If not, ask me again.

i see. yeah i guess that was kinda what i already expected, though i guess i formulated that question in a misleading way to what i actually meant, see the comment i posted immediately after my original one.
Though while we're at it, i gotta admit i'm kind aof a bit confused about myself here: am i an open minded person who accepts lgbt people or am i just a pervert? JK. Sorry i couldn't resist.
And another thing, it's kinda interesting, i know there are a lot more mtf operations being done than ftm (the quota being something about 3:1), but at the same time it seems to me like there are a lot more ftm out there, ot at least here on the internet...

transtastic In reply to nemedeus [2013-02-08 06:49:33 +0000 UTC]
oddly enough it was your second comment that was more confusing than the first!
and it's true, there are more trans* women seeking surgery than trans* men but that's due to a variety of factors. there are though, about the same number of trans* men and women in the US.

yeah I get where you're coming from,
"masculine" and "feminine" traits are to do with social stereotyping, like guys being into idk, trucking or girls being obsessed with fashion, none of it is actually to do with gender, it's just a social thing

I am, anatomically and genetically, male. Who loves women. But I don't see myself as straight.
I wish I was a lesbian. Not a gay male, a lesbian. (So I guess I'd be mentally trans?)
And this is exactly the kind of glorious dyke I wish I was... -just- butch enough to blur gender the line, but not so far that I couldn't show off my femme side a bit if the mood hit me.
You are awesome.

And as a sidenote - purple goes with anything. Largely because if someone gives you bullshit about it being a "girly color", you can throw it back at them by reminding them it was the color of royalty, and what's more classically manly than a king on the throne?
