Description
Aha!My final project for a feminist performances class. I chose to do a web comic of myself and how I feel about being trans/what trans means to me.
It's part of a more extensive project/paper, creating a new trans narrative not based on self/societal hatred or violence, the denial of the former self, etc. Just because I'm a transman doesn't mean I follow traditional masculinity.
Yes, I paint my nail. I love things that glitter. I am fabulous.
I am and always will be trans, and I'm proud of that.
Sketcher, then Photoshop.

Fabulous. ;3
Being FtM doesn't mean I have to stop playing dress up. Doesn't mean I have to stop wearing dresses. Doesn't mean I have to stop wearing makeup or painting my nails.
>> Just means I'll be doing it the proper way--as the man I've always meant to be.

*sighs* There are just as many ways to be a trans-anything, as there are to be regular men and women.
I myself struggle because my mother has decided that I'm NOT trans, because I don't exhibit the 'traditional signs' of being trans.
I'm sick of having to vaugely attempt to justify that I am a woman. Sick of trying to explain that it isn't based in logic...its based in emotion. You can't put happiness or joy in numbers. It just doens't work.
This is....probably the most abbribiated version of my rant out there....but I'm....
I'm just upset right now....I need to see a therapist....

I'm kinda the same way. I'm not uber-masculine. But I'm. Still. A. Freaking. BOY.
I scrolled down and read the comments cuz I'm a goob like that... We seriously started Stonewall??? Awesome!
ANYWAYS, since almost every other commenter has ranted...
I hate that when parents find out they're either "Okay, you're masculine, kinda expected that" or "NO! You're not a boy because you're not super-duper masculine!" Hearing that second one pissed me off when I told my mom... and then later we joked about why the hell I chose the name "Roy Drake." I told her I want a spondee name XD end rant/joke.

I'm really glad you can relate!
Yes, many trans/cross dressers were the ones who started/were behind Stonewall. Ask some old school people in the community and they'll tell you that the butch dykes and trannies started it all.
yeah i think i confuse my mom more than she ever expected. XD

Very interesting, I find it quite rare to find any trans individual who is willing to embrace their former identity, and ultimately an admirable quality.
IN all seriousness though you really need to stop saying, "Oh my stars." 80s Rock stars and Penn Jillette made it perfectly acceptable to wear nail polish, but, "Oh my stars" ... I'm pretty sure my Y chromosome will just up and leave if I ever actually say out loud.

gods no, can't stop saying that. that and "color me surprised!" are my favorite lines. i have the appearance of a big macho dude but i love throwing people off when they hear me say things are fabulous. i like confusing/shocking people. makes living in the suburbs more tolerable.

Ok, "color me surprised" is ok; its basically the weaker version of "Bugger me blind" or, "Fuck me sideways."

This is epic - and so true. If a non-trans guy wants to act feminine, fine; if a trans guy has any stereotypically "girly" aspects to his personality, he must be "not really trans", because everyone knows trans men have to be hardcore bodybuilder types who shun anything remotely effeminate. (Not to mention that "trans guys who are gay/bisexual aren't really trans either"...but that's a whole 'nother rant.) What's extra crappy is that this mindset seems to exist within the LGBT community, too, as well as the rest of the world: instead of embracing each other for our differences and our diversity, we judge each other on how we present our gender. Urgh, urgh, urgh.
...so, um, I guess what I was trying to say was that I love this comic. Glitter is freaking awesome, and so is nail polish: keep rocking flamingo pink, man!

Thankfully, femme trans guys and trans guys who identify as gay/bi are becoming more visible. But god damn do we still have to put up with Chaz Bono and his inability to listen to his girlfriend because he started hormone therapy. I love the attention trans guys are getting but do we have to get it in the form of Chaz, who honestly thinks taking testosterone has made him like gadgets and technology more? WTF.
And yes, the LGBT community can be a hostile, unfriendly place. the L and the G pretty much want nothing to do with us, even though trannies are the ones who started Stonewall, thank you very much.
Everyone's so focused on being normal and reinforcing the very systems that oppress us in the first place--it's a cycle fuck and no one wants to break it because omg I might be less of a man!
What I'm trying to say is right on, hell yeah, and thanks for your awesome comments! The world does not end at flamingo pink or glitter or being fabulous. It ends when you start persecuting other people for it.

This! It's honestly sickening how just about every collective group expects trans men to be these super-macho representations of all things masculine (which is, you know, fine for those who are comfortable with that) and shun effeminacy among trans men, but not so much among non-trans men. The double-standard is just terrible and baseless. It's like, I may have been born female, but that means absolutely nothing in regards to my gender identity or gender expression. Being fabulous or effeminate obviously doesn't make someone a woman, otherwise fabulous men would be women and masculine women wouldn't be women (by societal standards, at least).
/end minor rant (yeah, sorry about the slight rant; anti-femme trans man hate really chaps my ass, although you probably gathered that XD)

I LOVE this! You nailed it! If I could "like" this comment, I so would.
It's a comment about the transmale community that we are not perfect and have a long way to go.
And I hate it when some trans people say they're not trans after they transition. They're "normal." So what does that make the rest of us? Respect us and we'll respect you.
Thanks for the amazing comment.

Haha My exact thought after reading suicideXphantom's comment was "Can I please just 'like' this comment?" And..... then I scrolled down and you had commented a "like".
Great minds think alike. (please forgive the unintended pun)
