Description You... are... not... alone........

Inspired by the numerous fan theories I've heard about characters of various books, movies, and TV shows who are secretly Time Lords. I think the trickiest part of this picture was choosing my line up. My friends helped me come up with several ideas and then I had to narrow it down to the ones that best matched the theme. Some of the criteria I looked for included unusual forms of transportation, anything that's 'bigger on the inside', regeneration/multiple iterations, ect. Some of the secret Time Lords that didn't quite make it were Harry Potter, Batman, and Yoda.

Here we have (from left to right): Marry Poppins, Doc Brown (Back to the Future), James Bond, Willy Wonka, the Doctor, Mrs. Frizzle (the Magic School Bus), Gandalf (the Lord of the Rings), and Santa Claus.

Oh yeah. She was probably the biggest "Ah-ha, of course she's a Time Lord!" moment when doing this. In fact, I think she may even be River Song in an unseen regeneration.

MountainLygon In reply to ??? [2012-11-27 09:11:29 +0000 UTC]

I fully approve of this picture. But does that mean all the Istari are Time Lords, and Radagast is another Maxil scenario (looks like an incarnation of the Doctor but isn't the Doctor)?

Also, the Friz looks awesome in that TARDIS dress.

TravisTheGeek In reply to MountainLygon [2012-11-27 09:30:33 +0000 UTC]

Ha. You know, about half way through I though "Huh, I really should have put Radagast instead of Gandalf." Oh well...

And I'm real glad to hear you like the TARDIS dress. It was a bit tricky to do, so I'm happy it turned out as well as it did.

ok, I can understand all of them but James Bond and Willy Wonka.

Willy Wonka: He's a chocolate/candy maker! what on earth does he do that makes him a time lord? Granted, my knowledge of time Lords and such is extremely limited because of my never really watching the Dr. Who series (blasphemous, I know), but Willy Wonka strikes me more of a Zany amazing person rather than someone with incredible powers. (unlike the rest, who clearly do have incredible powers.) this could also be because I go by the Wonka of the books.

James Bond: never seen any indication that he time travels. Isn't he in mystery, not scifi?

TravisTheGeek In reply to Cimorine90 [2012-11-27 09:16:41 +0000 UTC]

Hard to explain if you haven't seen much Doctor Who, but time travel actually played a very minor role in picking out the line-up. As a mater of fact, I feel that Doc Brown, the only other real time traveler besides the Doctor, is probably the weak-link here and he almost wasn't included. IMO, I think Wonka is actually one of the stronger choices. The main thing is personality/spirit. Eccentric, mysterious, a slight hint of something sinister. He's a loner seeking out a companion, one who often ends up endangered. The factory itself has many qualities of a TARDIS and the glass elevator really drives the point home. Plus he's been played by two different actors who had very different takes on the characters, much like regenerations. And the Oompa Loompas as aliens makes a lot of sense.

James Bond is a little more of a stretch, I'll admit. The main selling point for him is all the different actors who've played him, giving him several regenerations. He also uses a blend of action and wits to save the world (specifically England) and always has a beautiful companion by his side.

You can make arguments for and against many characters. There was much debate, for instance, over who, if any, Harry Potter characters would fit. The discussions with my friends helping me brainstorm got pretty creative. That, I think, was the most fun part of doing this one.

Cimorine90 In reply to TravisTheGeek [2012-11-27 10:08:45 +0000 UTC]

oh! I'd forgotten about the glass elevator! wow, thanks for explaining that to me. that makes a whole lot of sense now about Willy Wonka. And it is true, his factory is sort of like the Tardis. . . this is probably where fantasy overlaps with scifi. In fact, the second book was really more scifi than fantasy. the first was more about the magic of the factory. And if you include the book, that's 3 different regenerations, really.

I see! I get the Bond choice now, too. he shares many similarities with the Doc. thanks for explaining all that to me. I can be slow at times.

MountainLygon In reply to Cimorine90 [2012-11-27 09:14:55 +0000 UTC]

Willy Wonka has several dimensionally transcendental areas of his factory (including the factory itself, really), and he works with all kinds of strange humanoids who clearly aren't native to earth. He also has the personality humans would attribute to a Time Lord, AND...if Jon Pertwee wouldn't have been busy playing the third Doctor, he would've been cast as Willy Wonka.

As for James Bond, well, he regenerates.

TravisTheGeek In reply to MountainLygon [2012-11-27 19:58:47 +0000 UTC]

Huh. I didn't know that about Jon Pertwee. Lucky coincidence!

Cimorine90 In reply to MountainLygon [2012-11-27 10:11:36 +0000 UTC]

(shrug) I get the idea that the oompa loompas are aliens, but I am a strict cannonist when it comes to anything Roald Dahl, so I follow (and like) the book's oompa-loompas the best. They really look like pigmys, especially in that they are small but have the same structure as humans. But, to each his own, and I really can't speak for everyone's tastes. Thanks for explaining, too!

Tick-tock, thinks the Doc'
That he is never home...
Tick-tock, know this, Doc' -
You are not alone.

You'll find everything
If you stop look so far -
At the edge of wing
There's a morning star.

Tick-tock, open eyes
And touch the closest cords...
Secret never dies,
You'll find your pal Timelords.

One thing none may ever accuse you of, my friend: You are NOT a man short on good ideas. Love the execution, here. The idea that all the Bond actors have just been "regenerations" of each other has my mind spinning! You did really well.

Seriously, this was a case of 'fun idea, difficult execution'. Coloring a TARDIS dress was surprisingly difficult. lol
