Description
Of course, the majority of Goths are unique in their style and music preferences. However, within the subculture there are certain "types" of Goth with particular characteristics. And it can be fun to classify them. Naturally, classifications for each "type" vary from person to person, so you may disagree with what I say here!I had a lot of reservations about doing this type - I know that Goths seem to hate being associated with Emos, and vica versa. But because I've had so many comments mentioning Emos, I thought that it really had to be done.
Sorry that this has been a long time in coming, and that it's drawn even sloppier than usual... I've been revising for and doing my university final exams for the past month, and I've only just had a break...

Yup this is me. Paying particular attention to the '...too fond of cartoons, old computer games, cute accessories and Tim Burton films...' bit. But I do cross over into Geeky Gothness often as I am a geek...

very good. I think why so many people dislike emo is the stereotype of whining, immature teenagers depressed about trivial things. I too dislike the stereotype but I love the things most emos love, so yeah.

The problem I have with the term "Emo" is, that most of the people who call themselves so, are really annoying. They donΒ΄t look like you draw it. They look like more Type 8. They are obsessed of pink and chuckle the whole day. They are not depressed, they are little children. They donΒ΄t cut themselves because they have no really problem. They play the drama queens(we call them Gabber) and destroy the good clubs like a contagion because nobody hold them out. And that is the reason why so many people hate them.
So it can be, that there was a day where emo was a music style, with harmless people, look like you draw it, but I never met some.
P.S.: I hate it when someone call me emo because I love black and white stripes.

I tried to listen to Funeral for a Friend and the lyrics is so deep, but the music is so typically emo lol. Well poseur/scene really. But most people can't tell the difference! I like some emo music and some goth music. I like emo goth style (but with a little more gothic spice). Would I "qualify" under this category?
lol qualify

I love MCR. & I'm not emo. Goth, certainly, but not emo. I love these stereotypes, but i hate the way MCR is always associated with 'Emo' when actually, its pretty obvious to anyone who listens to them, interviews, music, and everything, that they are sending the completely opposite message xxx

I love MCR, but I seriously wouldn't consider myself emo! Why do people have to call fans of a certain band 'emo,' when most of the fans wouldn't consider themselves 'emo' at all! In fact, MCR says that 'emo is fucking bullshit' and 'pissing your life away on suicide is fucking bullshit' and generally their music tells you to be happy with yourself and have a good time.
Just saying.

Seriously...I don't get the hate against these people. Everything these comments are saying about how all emos just want attention and they're only doing it because they think it's cool is really just talking about the posers. And trust me, I'm normally open-minded, but I would really like to kill them all. Real emos can be perfectly likeable and fun to be around. I don't think emos 'stole' the goth style. It has some common threads with it, but that doesn't mean they ripped off goth. What's really ironic is that goths are supposed to be so open-minded but so many keep hating on emos for no reason. Really. It's just another subculture. Get over yourselves.

Would The Rasmus be considered Emo if they are always associated with HIM and the 69 Eyes?

I personally wouldn't class The Rasmus as emo but they are not really heavy enough to be compared or really associated with Him and 69 eyes. It is only down to their backgrounds (ie. being Finnish).

Grrrr these people are agrivating me. They say that emo's stole from goth style but there is no proof of that. Who came first the goth or the emo? Nobody can prove either side. Emos could have based their style off goth or goth could have based their style off emo! I dont give a crap! Both have there own particular personality though. Though there are many types of goth steryo types are generally mopey and stuff while emo doesnt mean they cut them selves and are depressed, they dont even have to dress like the steryotypical emo, emo is short for emotional which means they could be really happy, sad, angry etc. I dont even see why goths claim emo's stole their style because steryotypical goths usually wear mostly black: pants, skirts, t-shirts, nailpolish, lipstick, chains, chokers, and fishnet while steryotypical emo's wear any color: skinny jeans, shirts, stripes, hoodies, jackets, and bows. I dont see anything wrong with either!!! Emos and goths are both fine! I dont see why goths hate on emos or why emos hate on goths. Both are mistreated by others and mistreat each other! Why dont you just learn to get along!!!

Goth is like Emo's bigger, scarier older brother.
Emo kids will always try to live up to the same shock-value of Rivetheads and other militant Goth-Factions, not to mention the general awareness of Goth eg. all the newspapers blaming Goth culture for suicide and mass-murders etc.
Even though Goth is starting to go more underground, atleast in England, it will always remain the dark, intangible shadow on the outskirts of society.
I am also aware of the previous Emo scene: I'm refering to the bothersome Scene/Emo kids of today.

dragonlisa2 In reply to Aethling [2010-07-29 14:26:26 +0000 UTC]
and why are scene kids bothersome?
π: 0 β©: 1
Aethling In reply to dragonlisa2 [2010-07-29 22:58:23 +0000 UTC]
Perhaps because I don't really get it. "Scene" actually means to be within the current "Scene" itself, some sort of awful paradox apparently: it is essentially kids who ride along on what is popular like Iphones, beanie hats, semi-long hair, snakebite piercings, those 'emo' glasses... the list goes on.
I must sound like an ancient troll (yes the sort that bothers you in the woods) to be somewhat adverse to this sort of 'culture' but really it's just a fad; Iphones break, beanie hats shrink in the wash, poor attempts at long hair get cut, snakebites get infected and mass-produced glasses fall apart. It will all come to an end, but Goth will always be around.
π: 0 β©: 1
dragonlisa2 In reply to Aethling [2010-07-30 13:54:33 +0000 UTC]
Well, Scene actually means two different things. Your version, and to "make a scene". Hence the whole, we're different, we can make a scene. Blah blah blah, list goes on and on. I do however agree it is a fad, and that eventually, the whole popularity of it will go away, but goth will be around always. Etc. Etc. But you can't deny, Scene kids are smokin' hot
π: 0 β©: 1
Aethling In reply to dragonlisa2 [2010-07-30 21:52:45 +0000 UTC]
I can deny it. I feel like they're misleading. My ex was a scene girl and because she wore purple and black stripey stuff, had a beanie with skulls on it and had emo glasses, I thought she was a baby-bat and would eventually work her way into 'true' goth. Then she told me to get an emo-fringe and that Goth was "silly" and that I was being silly by getting into the culture. Bottom line, they can be confusing and plain irritating.
Notice the "can," meaning that not all scene-kids are as such, but that they are all perfectly capable.
