Description
The sun would only set for a few hours, but during that brief period of darkness the temperatures would fall well below the level of human comfort. The trio had gone through a busy day. After their last hunt, which had been a success for all parties, an exploration expedition was decided upon, and Ahnah even brought her newest addition, Eyre, along for the trip. The tundra pup struggled to keep up with the older tokotas, but got along with them quite well, bonding especially with the male, Odion, as they played in a streambed earlier that morning. While Karenina had carefully avoided the water source, Odion and Eyre had been covered in mud and dead pine needles by the time they'd finished collecting water, causing further delays while the handlers cleaned them off.

Aria and Karenina seemed to get along quite well, until Karenina helplessly sought out her handler as Aria had managed to snipe her food while the former shied from the streambed. Both Fallon and Ahnah tried to sort it out, and it wasn't until Nika came up with a solution for them that they were able to reconcile the situation, especially given the limited supplies they had brought along!

Nika, had taken Odion under her wing, helping train him for a one-on-one session, and spent her time sleepless, staring at the sky. She caught sight of the comet overhead, and tried to point it out to the other girls, but Ahnah and Fallon were busy talking about the plans for their tokotas, and enjoying the lull of the modest crackling fire around which they huddled for warmth. Ahnah felt comfortable, with Karenina's heat and body providing a soft surface to lean against, while Eyre curled up in her lap, sighing softly as she slept.

"Are we looking for anything particular?" Fallon asked Ahnah, "Or are you just getting a sense of the land?"

Ahnah shrugged her shoulders. "I know that Nika is hoping we stumble across something valuable, but I am just hoping to get a better understanding of this part of the wilds before I have to make long journeys in the winter time. I know it changes a lot between seasons, but knowing where streambeds are before the thaw is always a good idea..."

Fallon nodded. "I get the sense that you have experience with that?"

"Unfortuately yes..." Ahnah answered, "The reason Nina is so afraid of water-ways is because she was engulfed by a flooding river when she was little. I managed to pull her out but she's been difficult around them ever since. I'm amazed that she caught fish with Odion not long ago - I wasn't sure she could do it."

Fallon agreed, "It can be rough, getting a tokota to face their fears. But I know you've been working with her..." Fallon jokingly glared at the sleeping Aria. "Goodness knows this one needs to be brought into line! I am sorry about earlier - hopefully your Nina won't have to go hungry."

"No worries," Ahnah smiled, "Odion is an eager hunter, and I bet if she's hungry Nina will give it a go. Even little Ears here will catch a small prey every now and then."

Nika watched the two from a little distance away, fully bundled up in her gear, as she watched the sky. Although she was an outgoing person in general, she did need her space, and she preferred to spend her company just with animals at times. The tokota in her charge for the moment was behaving splendidly, and she appreciated an easy case. Odion was apparently more interested in the females than the starry night, and kept his golden eyes on Karenina and Aria. Nika chuckled when she noticed. "You and me both, buddy... maybe it's time to rejoin them. It's starting to get a bit cold anyways."

Some explorations take longer than others. Even the short summer nights in the arctic can get chilly though.
