Description Omega Centauri (NGC 5139) is a globular cluster located roughly 15,000 light years away in the constellation of Centaurus. It is the largest and brightest globular cluster in the Milky Way, and contains within itself roughly 10 million stars. Due to it's location in the far Southern sky, it is not as well known to those in the Northern hemisphere.

Incidentally, this is also the first complete image from my new imaging telescope, which I purchased earlier this year. It has been my largest investment (financially speaking) in astronomy so far, and it is the largest refractor that I have ever owned. I have photographed this object before with a smaller telescope, but the resolving power of this larger aperture is clearly superior (although the jpeg compression doesn't quite do it justice).

Globular clusters are easy targets, since they usually have very high surface brightness. Indeed, this didn't take much effort to produce, but in due time I hope to use my new setup to create more vistas of emission nebulae.

Are you referring to stargazing or astrophysics? The answer to both is 'yes'
