I NEED to know how to change the lineart color... I always scan my linearts and they're black... -_- Can't add color to black lineart! ;A; HELP!

uchuubranko In reply to BenyiHS [2013-11-27 03:33:56 +0000 UTC]

If you scan your traditional lineart, you can't add/change colour to it like you would digitally.Β  When you draw a digital lineart on a layer, the lines become the only thing on that layer so you can change them easily.
You can change your scanned file colour using photoshop though. >> www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnxO-m…
or, change it with adjustment layers or by airbrushing over your line/scan image layer on an OVERLAY layer (with colour of course) :)
I can explain in detail if this wasn't helpful enough

sorry for the late reply!
but interestingly enough there are many persons asking for this and I was kind of lost

I use the same 2 brushes for everything

settings/names may differ for each version of SAI
just follow the order and it should be right
Brush 1 (main brush) settings :
- min size : 0
- density : 100
(Stringy_L)
(none)
- color blending : 4
- opacity mix : 17
- persistence : 7
(keep opacity is checked)
- quality : 4
- hardness : 30
- min density : 33
- max density : 33
- hard - soft : 116
(density / size / clr blend are all checked )

Brush 2 (secondary brush)

- min size : 0
- density : 100
(none)
(none)
- color blending : 31
- opacity mix : 48
- persistence : 43
(keep opacity is checked)
- quality : 4
- hardness : 21
- min density : 0
- max density : 0
- hard - soft : 104
(density / size / clr blend are all checked )

the ones you drew with coloured pencils (?) are pretty much normally coloured....
colouring is well...putting colours/shadows/light source/and all your mind and soul in...D:

that is all

Kakai3609 [2013-08-01 20:13:31 +0000 UTC]

i have a question :3Β

first of all amazing tutorial! i really like the way you organize and colored everything

Β but i don't really get why you ordered the layers the way you did.... like why did you put the skin layer over the clothes and hair layers? I've always been putting my skin layer at the bottom and i would Β like to know why you put yours on top.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

uchuubranko In reply to Kakai3609 [2013-08-01 20:24:13 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much!!

I always begin to fill the skin parts first : skin > next is hair > next is cloth > then background (which is the bottom)
By putting it up, I can avoid the hair, clothes and anything that's below it, to enter in the skin colour. The same is for clothes as well. I don't want the clothes colour to enter in the hair. The clotes are mainly the last thing I add, so they're at the bottom. The BG layer is at the bottom to able to overdraw on it with the skin, hair, and cloth layers.
I'm sorry for being confusing, does this help?

shinragod In reply to ??? [2013-07-31 06:52:38 +0000 UTC]

We all have different styles; as well as different approaches to them.
Before I would even attempt this; I need to get much better at figure drawing. It's clear you do realistic looking paintings while I am very stylized and cartoonish.
Nevertheless there are pointers and steps here I can incorporate into my own daily motion of digital painting. I can go realistic sometimes. But to this degree it's a bit out of my reach for now. Because I am rusty with humans and anime ones at that.
But you set up a pretty neat tutorial that will come in handy. I like looking at different ones to see what they can offer for me in terms of improvement. And yours works as well.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

uchuubranko In reply to shinragod [2013-09-01 03:07:47 +0000 UTC]

oh but mine is quite far away from a realistic style! I guess the brush makes it look a bit that way. It's just more painterly-ish.
I'm so glad this can be of use for you!

p.s your style is gorgeous!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

shinragod In reply to uchuubranko [2013-09-01 05:47:33 +0000 UTC]

Well it's a style I admire. But one I can't just jump into. I can tell it takes a lot of practice and dedication to do something like the hair rendering. Hair and eyes in particular can be tricky but well worth learning.
So yes; this will come in handy. And thank you very much. I appreciate a compliment as such from someone of your caliber.

Awesome tutorial! At a few steps, it was like "magic happens" and then it looked awesome, but that's typical of every tutorial.

I've been wanting to get SAI Paint for a long time, but haven't gotten around to it yet, soΒ every timeΒ I see something about SAI I read it.

P.S. The drawing's awesome too!

You're welcome!

Could you tell me whether you shade on different layers, or all on one layer? How do you keep the shading in the correct place? Do you use the color select tool? If you could answer those questions I would be really happy.
