Wowza...that looks...complex.

I love seeing it in this stage though, because it looks like something straight out of a sci/fi movie.

Nope. It's all polygons. The splines are just there to guide me. I basically "drew" the splines by hand based on what the contours most probably looked like after looking at a lot of photos and comparing them with the blueprints. Then I adjusted the mesh so that the sub-divided version conformed as closely as possible to those curves.

ye, now makes sense. Its looking like a clean model and in such a way that it did look like a nurbs topology. Im looking forward to seeing the finished thing

Cheers. Hopefully it won't disappoint. I'd work on it faster but it's such warm weather here, slaving away in front of a hot computer isn't fun >_<. I really need a more power-efficient system.

I really need that program....

Your mesh looks good so far, can't wait to see this helo in a scene

Thanks. It's nowhere near finished and probably never will be (because i'm a bit of a perfectionist I suppose) but it should be good enough for a few scenes in a while. I'm not a very fast modeller because i'm always checking things from every angle a million times. You need 3DS huh? You should look around for an older version that you can get a cheap licence for. This is version 6 which is really old, though still perfectly usable. Currently 3DS is on version 11 (2009) so you might be able to get a good deal on something older.

Yeah, version 6 or 7 would do me just fine for my needs (as I'm making a video game and I need to be able to 'quickly create' 3D models and use simple shader methods for color on them... I'll look into it

So what do you currently use? Blender is great and Truespace is free now too. 3DS is well known because it's been around for ages but it isn't necessarily the best; I just stick to what I know instead of becoming distracted by all these cool new programs like Modo (which looks brilliant, I have to say - not free though).

See 3DS is a 'frontend' for AC (AutoCadd) which will do 'roper measure' for objects, as no one seems to truly know what a 'Blender unit' actually is, so it makes it hard to import/export the mesh in a useful way. Also, exports from Blender imported into other programs tend to 'explode' -

I used to have AutoDesk's AutoCadd 10 and personally loved the way it worked, creating models with it was much easier and there was much more control with 'how' things could be done. Rendering included HDRi natively which allowed for more realistic renders with a lot less hassle.
