Hey again, all, I actually uploaded more than one thing this month! And what a time I've had putting the next two together. Let's learn about the monsters of Fathom!

Left: Dragger

-A trend I'm going to try and develop with these is having one familiar, or at least somewhat so, monster with each submission, but the other, so long as I can help it, is going to be new. That role this time goes to a design I first had about a week and a half ago. The place where I'm currently living has a great deal of wilderness and some kickass views of greater Appalachia outside, and one of the more constant features is this vocal whippoorwill that lives in the woods nearby. Every night I hear it, constantly, and it got me curious. One google search later, I discovered they were related to frogmouths, and my brain got weird when it saw their mouths.

How I got from there to... whatever this is, I have no idea. The bird influence is obvious, but there are bits and pieces of mustached frogs, moles, trilobites, crabs and porcupines in this guy. He is called Dragger, a burrowing monster found around north america. It is not the strongest or largest of the kaiju in fathom, but it is the first one to appear that did not come from a coastline, catching many off guard and increasing global paranoia from kaiju attacks. It is most famous for the total destruction of Detroit, which it was attracted to due to vibrations the city life was producing. Vibrations are kinda this fella's go-to. It gets around underground using them, and it can do surprising damage to those near it. It also can secrete a fast drying liquid that can become many times thicker than cement to heal over wounds and immobilize attackers, as well as secure nests for its eggs. Yep, this creature can reproduce, though the eggs carry a deadlier purpose that I won't spoil yet.

And I don't know if it shows well, but its claws are half mole, half crab in appearance, they can pinch and clasp enemies and drag them underground, hence the name.

It's a design I quite like, which is rare for me considering its age. The only thing I'm debating on are the eyes. I like them more vertebrate styled, but I kinda would like to see them be compound eyes, like a trilobites. Thoughts?

Right: Rohv

I debated, big-time, unveiling this guy here so soon. But he is one of the more 'finished' designs I've done, so I figured why not and drew him up. This is Rohv, an alien creature in the Fathom universe. By the time he (I'm playing loose with genders here) comes around, mankind has dealt more than once with extraterrestrials, but this one comes with an extra dose of weird. Its body is not quite solid, with a viscosity like gelatin, and apart from the solid headpiece, it can shift its mass around a lot. It possesses psionic powers, levitating, flying, even crudely attempting to make contact with other minds, though it's about as fruitful as using morse code to attract flies. No one knows what this creature's motivation is, no other alien power has seen it, and no one knows quite what to do with it, not even itself. But one this is for sure, it will defend itself, and is quite adept at doing so.

Design-wise, the arms are where most of the action is, they can form many different shapes and sizes instantly, but outside of that I didn't want this one to be all that expressionate. He's a mystery, and I plan on keeping it that way. Though I am debating on color schemes, and adding in some bioluminescent patches. A bit cliche now, I know, but I'm open to suggestions.

And that's all for today! Enjoy and await the next one!

I like these two designs. Dragger has a really nice blend of various things, and personally I think the eyes match it. Although they definitely give me double (triple?) eyelid vibes, to protect from everything underground. As for Rohv, I'm sensing some major Evangelion feelings from his design and the limited plot you've shown, which - in a kaiju design sense - is something I kind of like

Yeah, the vertebrate eyes have really grown on me, though I'll probably beef up the eyelid like you said. And yes, the Evangelion vibe is purposeful. I plan on homaging everything I like about this genre and some others in this, and the weirdness of the angels is one of those things. There won't be many others like him, at least not right away, but he fits a niche nicely.

These two are looking super unique and definitely showing what it means to be kaiju.

Dragger looking is very cool looking, though I kind of think the arthopod style compound eyes would work better. Reminds me a bit Gezion (who still exists, but has a different name and a slightly new look).

Rohv sounds and looks very interesting

Oh wow, I guess they do have similar body plans, don't they? Hope you don't mind, Jake. Otherwise, thanks for the good word.

Nah, I don't mind. There is enough of a difference between Dragger and Wyrmagon (Gezion's new name) that it shouldn't really matter. I mean, I'm far from the last guy who used the bipedal serpentine burrower body type.

You are welcome.
