Description
Please download for better view of text.People often ask me if/how I made my Keyblade. So I decided to post a tutorial. This was all done by memory from over a year and a half ago so I hope I got all the steps.
Supplies:
1. Wooden Pole
2. Rigid Insulation Foam (R.I.F.)
3. Wonderflex
4. Friendly Plastic
5. Box Cutter
6. Chain
7. Keyring
8. Sumo/Gorilla glue
9. Paints
10. Sander
11. Electric Drill
12. Hook
13. Pliers
14. Paintbrush
15. Electrical Tape
Sorry for any typos
Remember to be extremely careful while working on this. It's easy to hurt yourself if you aren't paying attention. Always cut away from yourself and if you don't know how to use a drill, ask someone to do it for you that knows how.
Be very careful with the glue as well. It's SUPER sticky and if it gets on your skin, it's staying there.
I wanted to get this tutorial up on my new account so here it is :3

is that rigid insulation foam durable? as in, if something hits it (not hard!) is it going to crack or sink in like styrofoam would? Also, where do you get it at? I'm attempting to find it online, but its not really going to well.... (havent been able to go to any hardwear stores lately either)

This is so great! I used some of your tips (though i had to alter a few things to fit the materials i had) to make a kingdom key of my own!
I made a video tutorial of it here: [link]
and here is the finished product: [link]
Thanks so much for this awesome tutorial!

How sturdy would you say the finished product is?
I intend on using these steps to work on Terra's keyblade.

It's pretty sturdy. You wouldn't be able to have a battle or anything with it, but it should withstand a con. But, really, it just depends on how you treat it.

Ohh, well that's good to know. I didn't wanna swing it behind my back for a pose at a convention and then have it... y'know.
Fall completely apart.
Bad experiences.

That... looks so much easier than my Keyblade. My friend's mom is cutting it out of wood for me, by using the designs I've hand drawn. -.-"
I'm gonna try this version during winter break and give it to my best friend if I finish it. :3 Thank you so much for making this tutorial!

this helps a ton! I have some of my materials but I couldn't find any wonderflex or friendly plastic at my local stores, would clay be an easy substitute?
π: 0 β©: 1
VandorWolf In reply to HarunoKairi [2010-12-27 18:19:43 +0000 UTC]
You could use clay, but very very gentle with the Keyblade. Clay will break much easier to break than wonderflex and friendly plastic.

I love this tutorial but even with it being made out of all that I might still get in trouble at school for having a "weapon" when our costume day comes around. e_e So I'll just stick to my friend's Sora plushie ^3^
I might try and make this a different time when I start going to more cons

The circular part where Mickey is or at the bottom of the Keyblade handle?

bottom of the keyblade handle.

VandorWolf In reply to andyliang935 [2010-09-14 11:47:24 +0000 UTC]
If you look at the very first picture there is a hook with a screw right by the bottom. You just screw that into the bottom of the RIF by twisting it in. The second picture shows what it looks like screwed in. Guess I missed that part in the tutorial Sorry!

oh i understood that part.
the part im refering to is the hand guard.
hmmm....
ok im talking about step 12. it doesnt really make sense to me. originally the hand guard is flat. but then you manage to make some parts circular.

CDSH In reply to andyliang935 [2010-10-26 06:50:53 +0000 UTC]
Step 12 seems pretty clear to me... She glued another piece of RIF to the guard and sanded it smooth and round, is what she said.
