Starter Level - Communication:

At this stage horse and handler are getting used to working as a team. Most obstacles will be easy at this level, such as walking over a tarp or poles, crossing water, and trailering. Judges are looking for good manners at all obstacles. Horses will also be asked to walk, trot, halt and back up in hand. Leg wraps are allowed, target stick is allowed, halter and lead rope. 

First Level - Patience:
This level focuses on patience and focus of the horse and handler. Will include all starter level obstacles. Along with standing and staying on a marker while the handler walks away, picking up feet, standing and staying on a podium. Horses will also be asked to walk, trot, halt and back up in hand. Horses will also be asked to stay on one end of the arena and called to their handler, horse should trot or canter to handler. Leg wraps are allowed, target stick is allowed, halter and lead rope. 

Medium Level - Willingness:

At this point the horse has learned basic handling and obedience. Horse should show a willingness to complete all previous obstacles, the horse should now think before it reacts and should act calmer when faced with scary new obstacles. This level introduces the tunnel, seesaw, curtain, rolling a ball, passing through narrow gaps, climbing through poles and the labyrinth. Leg wraps are allowed, halter and lead rope. 

Advanced Level - Trust:
In this level the horse will be asked to do some things off lead. All previous obstacles can be done off lead when asked by the judge, most commonly asked are jump obstacles, bridge and A-frame obstacles. Water, bridge and A-frame obstacles are added, with or without a lead. Leg wraps are allowed, halter and lead rope. 

First Star Level - Timing:
At this level horses must complete the course with a time limit, trotting and cantering between obstacles and completing them as fast as possible is desired. All previous obstacles are included, with the same rules included in Advanced. Weave poles or cones are now added and can be done with or without lead. Halter and lead rope only

Second Star Level - Liberty:
This level is also timed and is done with no tack. All obstacles are included but at a higher degree of difficulty. An optional fire jump, or crossing a fire strip are also added obstacles to demonstrate your horses complete trust. No tack or leg wraps allowed.


Guidelines - 

  • Horses over 1 year are allowed, any age of handler

  • No equipment other than a halter, lead rope and protective boots unless at 

Level 6/Liberty level on pyramid

  • No whips, crops, ect. are allowed. Target stick is acceptable in starter and first level

  • Horse and handler should maintain a loose lead rope, forcing or pulling a horse through an obstacle isn’t allowed (mistakes happen, horses are allowed to spook)



Obstacles - 

*Some horses in the examples may not have tack, or aren’t on a lead. Tack is required until you reach Liberty level or the final Champion levels
