ive downloaded both the package and the software but when i click on the "VistaVG" button in the downloaded file it just opens IconPacker with no new icon sets. any way of getting the icon pack to appear in the IconPacker so i can apply them?

Try to manually open and apply the icon pack file from Icon Packager.

Help! I tried fixing it so I made a new command for open, but i messed something up and now it doesn't open like it's supposed to! ahhh!

Hi
Don't worry. I think you really messed up with Folder type.
Just open regedit in RUN dialog box and goto:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell
Now under this key, delete every key and exit from regedit. Now your problem should be solved.

oh, thanks man. I still would like to change the icon. It never was changed. i was able to with word though, which is nice. i got an icon I liked more than the old one. So now, I just want to change the folder icon.

I actually found a way to do it without any of that. you just go to desptop properties > desktop tab > customize desktop > change icon. Then you can change folders by just right clicking on one of them > properties > customize > change icon.
One question I have is how do you get icons like internet and control panel on your computer? I can get a shortcut, but it has the ugly arrow thing. How do you just get them on there not being a shortcut. And when you do, how can you change their icons?

Yep. You can change icons from Desktop properties but it'll be limited to only 4 or 5 icons.
And if you change a folder icon from its properties, then you'll have to change for all one by one.
There is another easier way to change icons from "Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types". Now you can change any file type icon, folder icon, etc. without any problem.
But using an Icon pack is the most easiest way.
Reg. to icons of Internet and Control Panel, I didnt understand. Which icons are you talking about and where? In My computer or Desktop?

Okay, sorry for all the posts. I just found out that the search option is now on the top, so if you double click, it will go right to that. Right now, I need to right click and select open, so I still need to know how to fix this. Also, how do you get default icons back? i was able to change the doc file types, but I can't get the original icon since it isn't in the list.

Okay, I found it. Big problem though. I tried changing the file folder icon, and now when I open one, it opens as a search window. Really weird.

This is a dumb question but....where is tools? Do you mean aministrative tools? Cause it isn't there. Also, will i be able to change "doc" file types? Because they used to be normal microsoft word files icons, but now they are wordpad icons, though it still opens with microsoft word. I don't know how this happened in the first place, but i really want it back.

I want to ask you some off topic advice as I'm kinda new to Deviant Art and Ive recently come under attack by someone for uploading something.
What I made is freely available anywhere and is more of a 'how to' than anything but I guess he thinks I stole it from him...
So in light of this I would appreciate advice on this: Would it be bad etiquette on D.A. to upload some dll's I modified when someone else has done something similar? I see other people have uploaded modified dll's so would I risk further scrutiny for uploading my own?
I assure you I modified all these dll's myself. Its not just the icons I modified but pretty much the whole thing (scripts, dialogs etc) and even added a few extra 
one benefit in this would be a free windows rollup (like the one in Styler Toolbar). I just want to share my modifications but I dont know all the rules here and some people get kinda mad for nothing!
And since I read some of your 'how to' articles Id gladly pay respect to you for part of this as well!

Regarding to your question, if you are using some resources from others work or following some one tutorial/guide in your work, then you should provide credits and source to the original work.
But if you are making the work from scratch and don't using any other resource, then you can freely release the work without any problem.

I feel as though I just received a "computer blessing" ... i.e., you are an MVP with Micro ... !! WOW! I would (and will - smile) in future hold onto your link (if you don't mind) ... to ask an occasional (emphasis on occasional - smile) question??!
As for now (eek) ... because I have "found you" and am also a "newbie Deviant" (smile) ... I am and have been searching with great earnest and diligence to find a "program" / "software" (?? - unsure of the diff in these two terms - eek) .. but anyway ... "something" that will allow me to perform either/or (meaning either a program for each or a program that both functions an be performed within) ...
But anyway ... a program to "convert PNG to ICO" and ALSO a program that will allow me to "extract icons" from my Wind XP Pro .. and I am "begging you" to advise me on same?
I've tried 2-3 different "softwares" found through MANY HOURS of "search n surfin" (smile) with the results either being "incomplete" due to the limitations given in the trial version AND/OR after creating an ICO from a PNG ... NO MATTER the "SIZE PNG" used in the conversion (16, 32, 48 etc.) the end product ICO icon is viewed out of focus and lacking the quality I'm SURE is available "somewhere" ...
PLEASE can you help me out??
