Some AI Artists have been arguing that if AI Art is art theft; then artists taking inspiration from other artists is also art theft. This is a common enough argument that people have already found answers why taking inspiration from other artists is not art theft.

But there's also another point I'd like to make as to why it's not art theft if we take inspiration or reference from others. It is not art theft if artists gave their permission for others to use their works so long as attribution is given. Proper artists know when to give credit when credit's due. This helps us gain exposure as artists, as well as respecting each other's intellectual properties.

All artworks used belong to their respective artists is a concept that AI artists do not want to accept or comprehend. Can AI Artists give credit to the original artists involved in generating their image? Do AI Artists know that the original artists did not give their consent to have their works scraped to train AI?

Unregulated, unethical & possibly illegal Data Acquisition is one of the main issue in AI Art. Of which, many art sites' (ArtStation in particular) lackluster attempts to protect our artistic integrity has resulted in many professional artists' work to be compromised. This resulted in many AI Artists running amok & trying to get a quick buck out of others hardwork.

Senior 3D Character Artist, OccultArt_, said it best in their Open Letter to ArtStation "If they allow generated AI on the platform,...they will become one of the numerous websites filled with beautiful but generic & commercially useless generated images.".

Stock images database such as Getty Images & Shutterstock have taken vastly different but acceptable methods in taking on AI tech . And I hope in the New Year's, art websites like DA & AS would be able to make their decision & follow suit in the best interest of their artists.

Otherwise, y'all know any other place to be at? DA is filled with trolls & AI bros getting on the next get-rich-quick scheme, Art Station's censoring it's own users while letting AI Art be spammed in homepage & marketplace, Twitter's burning down. Where do we go from here?
