Description
Part One of Until I Get Bored Of It. This is not a tutorial. I'm nowhere near good enough to give a tutorial. This is more a curiousity value thing. Heck, this particular mess doesn't even tell you anything except that I can't draw like I'm supposed to.Next: What proportions I use. ( Note: Mostly contains cheating. )
OV charas because of Whatever They're Right There.

Me, I find I just can't use them. They invariably weird my figures because I can't visualise the proportions right without the bulk and landmarks of a body. Which lead to "But you're doing it wroooooong!" from art teachers who couldn't get that I'm not wired to work like that. And when most figure tutorials start with "draw a stick figure, no you're not allowed to skip to Step Three", it makes for crazy-making.
Other people totally rock the balls and sticks. I'm just not one of them.

Never used balls and sticks, just sticks ... sometimes dots and sticks ...

I agree, stick figures are to drawings as outlines are to essays; they sound easier in theory, but they actually do more harm than good.

I'm glad that I'mnot the only person who doesn't start with stick figures. Fragging annoying things!

PSH, I saved it with my tutorials anyway, because hell, I'm going to use it like one anyway. >_>

Amen for Wayward characters not having comic-book proportions. Waspy just wouldn't look right with an hourglass waist and boobs out to here.
Considering I draw straight from the head and often don't know what the whole pic will look like until it's done, you're considerably more scientific about your approach than I am. So, don't spare yourself due credit, 'Ward.

Sticks never work for me either... I can never remeber if I've bent that limb forward or back...

You know, I appreciate the fact that you don't draw your characters super-ripped.

I'm of the "ovals rough" school myself, and almost never do stick figures unless I'm either working out a particularly tough pose or drawing something with nonhuman proportions (like a Transformer NOT in a human body).
