Description Was I the only one ticked off that Dee Dee was hardly shown in the movie Ego Trip?! To remedy this travesty I decided to draw her myself.

As my sister would say, puberty was kind to Dee Dee. XD

Anyway I tried to keep in design with the film by following the formulae used for Dex and Mandark and the other characters in the movie. There's the original version (obviously), then the future version (which has a similar face but different body type), then the apocalyptic version (if Dexter gets to be buff and manly Dee Dee gets to be hot), and then the elderly version. XD And where Dexter's symbol is the wrench and Mandark's is an M, Dee Dee's is a heart.

I think I overthought this.

Anyway, I hope to do a proper scene with these Dee Dees later on, and you can see some other info on my tumblr here: dust-in-my-eyes.tumblr.com

UPDATE: Β I appreciate all your favs on this drawing but it is very outdated, please go view the updated version instead! Β

The thing the kinda bothered me in Ego Trip is that the older Mandarks swooned over the same young Dee Dee. Back to your drawing, I like what you did, especially with the classic Dexter design.

Yeah...I kind of thought it was supposed to be like memories of being him being young and in love, instead of perving out over a kid. But then I guess you never know with Mandark... o_0

Was the Action DeeDee inspired to you by Deestructa?

Because she looks close to her!!!
Also, I really like Your fetures to all the DeeDees!

I'm sure that's what they would look like in the movie!

Action Dee Dee really honestly wasn't inspired by Deestructa, but I do see why everyone thinks she was. XD I was trying to combine the looks of a ballet dancer with some of the weird outfits Lady Gaga wears...but I guess there's only so many ways to draw a heroic Dee Dee

i always wonders why she no was in more parts of the movie too, i mean, dexter go to the future to know what he do to get assasins robots after him but he still see his future version like number 12, action dexter and the old dexter. and dee dee never was there (i mean near to dexter or even mandark) ,someone say something of her or what happen to her and they canΒ΄t use the excuse that she go to the future and was "lost" because of dexters trip.

I love the designs of the three dee deeΒ΄s ,they really look like how she should be if she had been more time in the movie, and the more i like is number one. she looks so cool and beautiful.

Uh. I can already tell by trying to formulate some thoughts that I am going to fangirl all over the place. Apologies in advance.

I don't even know what made me start looking up Dexter's Lab. It just sort of happened. But, getting the chance to see your work, along with the works of many others...it's as if the show is new tomorrow night and I'm a child again. I'm such a lame emotional mess when I get nostalgic...but seeing these images makes it okay somehow. It was one of those shows that truly just worked and obviously one that won the hearts of many. I am thrilled that you watched it and doubly thrilled that you decided to dedicate your amazing talents and energy into this work (as well as all your other equally beautiful pieces!).

To the versions...I can't find a flaw. I can't. I don't think someone could having seen Ego Trip. It was a shame that we didn't get to see her much there...and yet, having looked at the movie recently, her absence just makes her moment all the more hilarious. It gives fans so much to play with about her fate...and look at what it's produced! But then...look what it produced! LOOK WHAT WE WERE ROBBED OF!

I'll go one by one, though I'll warn you...it's mostly "OMG I LOVE YOU FOREVER!" Original Dee Dee. I know she's original and in her typical outfit...but I love the vibrancy that you give to her color scheme and face. It's so on point...so much like if someone lifted her from the storyboard of the show itself. I've err...I've looked at a lot of your pieces and noticed the same. It's so precise. So true to the entire nature of the show and of the characters' personalities and little ticks. It's a beautiful thing to see for someone looking back into the fandom after so long. It just adds a depth to the fandom to me...a purity that is sometimes lost and a feeling that can't quite be recalled. But I feel it here. I feel the feeling I have remembering shushing my family when the show came on and laughing and acting out scenes with my friends like a dork. It's a beautiful feeling to recall and I thank you so much for instilling it into your work.

Number 1 is just lovely. She's the version I really would have given so much to see in Ego Trip. The hairstyle is adorable and keeps in line with her bubbly personality, as does the outfit. It's futuristic yet light and just makes sense. It's like this is seriously the only way that she could develop. The end. And her scene with Number 12 has to be my favorite with the Dexters. She's a little more subdued, with the times and all, yet she still has this very hopeful look that keeps in with her optimisim. I have to admit that I was reading a post-Ego Trip fic lately and they actually included a Number 12!Era Dee Dee. I pictured your Number 1 in my head. Should I read anything with such a scenario again, I know she'll jump into my image of the story again. You've literally filled a void in my life.

Action Dee Dee is probably my favorite just because she's so AWESOME. Her optimism is still there...a confidence and a readiness that, yet again, is just what the character is. And you are BRILLIANT at clothing. You're brilliant at everything, really, but the outfit is just sexy and sassy and so fun. I know you must have had a ball designing and creating it and the piece as a whole. Love how her bright blue eyes stay with her throughout, especially here with the glasses that I am too in love with. I can't stop imagining what that era's Mandark would think of this rendition! XD I truly doubt that he would have wiped out her intelligence, after all, so this is entirely plausible. I also really like the physical concept overall. It mimics those overexaggerated female heroines in the comics, in just the same way that Action Dexter does. It's all these little details that just keep getting me. Thank you so much for taking the time and being so true to this show. Really. This is just a joy to look at. I can't stop looking at it!

And the Old Dee Dee. ADORABLE! The spotches of warmth in her face...her curlers in her hair...her workout outfit...are you going to be doing a reboot of DL? Because...seriously...you have the design and the heart and from yet more adoring glancing through your gallery lately, you've got the characters' stories down in a way that just blows me away. I think I'm in love with you. Or your style. Probably both. I know I am in love with Old Lady Dee Dee and her simple yet endearing design. And the heart symbol continuing throughout? Lovely addition. She's so cute. I keep on fighting myself for a favorite. It's just too perfect. TOO PERFECT.

So...I'm REALLY in love with your style and the grace with which you work with your characters and their backstories and their lives in general. I'm so touched just looking at this. It reawakens a part of you...gives you a gift that you weren't even expecting. Thank you for sharing and caring all these years later. Thank you for adding such a beautiful layer to this Dexter ride I've been on for the past few days. You've earned a watch a thousand times over from me. (And clearly an excitable, obsessed fan). Much, much admiration and adoration for this piece. I definitely hope to comment on your other pieces when I'm able, but I *had* to let you know how this impacted me. You're brilliant. Please never stop working with your art. It brings such joy to people and is obviously a passion that has grown and matured through dedication and love. Cannot wait to see your future pieces and will continue to enjoy the ones you have shared so far. Amazing job once again!

Wow, this was a very thoughtful comment to wake up to!
I'm so glad you connected with this picture so much! I really did work very hard on this because I wanted it to feel like it came from the movie, and I guess it did. It's also great to see that someone notices all the detail I did try to put into it. My favorite aspect of art is character design (that's why whenever I draw my DL art they're always in a different outfit...) and so I really had a blast with this!

I agree with you that Dee Dee's scarcity in the movie did help with the comedic effect, but...I still missed her! Of course if she'd have been in it, though, we never would have been able to see Dex combat Mandark on his own (at any point) because we all know what Mandark's one weakness is, haha!

And your comment about the "purity" of the fandom sometimes lacking is something I can definitely relate to - that's why I always try to stay mainly canon when I draw (or write or whatever), because there's a reason we were attracted to the show in the first place so if it starts becoming too AU or is tampered with too much you lose what was special about the original work (at least IMO). I think that might be why the latter seasons of DL didn't work, because there was too much of a disconnect from the original episodes. Just my two cents!

Anyway thanks very much for commenting and watching! And if you are able to comment on my other works I'll definitely enjoy reading those as much as this one!!!

This picture is really good. You did a great job sticking to the style of the show. This actually looks like a legit model sheet to me. And I really like the cute outfit you gave her in Number 1.

I also wish that Dee Dee had a bigger role in the movie. When I saw it as a kid, I was so disappointed that she didn't get to meet her badass future self, too. Them saving the future together would have been a much better ending then him sicking killer robots on her.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Wickfield In reply to brensey [2012-02-25 23:15:37 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! (Number 1's outfit was supposed to look kind of retro/sporty so she didn't look as uniform as most of the people in the future world. ).

Yeah, WHAT was with that ending? I'm glad she saved the day (even though she wasn't much in the movie), but I'm like, "DEXTER? She just saved you? Why the heck are you trying to kill your sister?"

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

brensey In reply to Wickfield [2012-02-26 08:01:19 +0000 UTC]

Dexter's canon personality seemed to fluctuate a lot in the show. Sometimes he came across as a mostly normal kid who had a normal relationship with his sister. Sometimes he came across as a sociopathic dick (that's the one they rolled with in Ego Trip).

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Wickfield In reply to brensey [2012-02-26 15:09:23 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that's why it's always so weird that Mandark gets villain status (I still think that originally Mandark wasn't supposed to be a villain, just Dexter's equal in science/craziness etc.) but I think later they felt they needed to fill that void so they grabbed Mandark to be an actual villain. That's one thing I'll admit I dislike in Dexter's Lab - there's a lot of inconsistencies throughout the series (which also makes it difficult to draw when you're looking for references, haha).

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

Georgia-O-Queef [2012-01-26 03:39:02 +0000 UTC]

It was kinda weird how all the versions of Mandark had the hots for the 11-12 year old version of Dee Dee, but I liked how she tied everything together in the end.

Kinda sucks that there was a whole Dee Dee time traveling subplot we missed out on, though.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Wickfield In reply to Georgia-O-Queef [2012-01-26 03:47:00 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I totally agree about the subplot!

And yeah, all the versions liking Dee Dee was kind of strange, but I just kind of took it as a nostalgic thing - like they were all remembering their first crush on Dee Dee and so they were distracted? Hopefully they weren't planning on kidnapping her or anything, haha.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LaDy-Musical In reply to Wickfield [2012-06-11 06:52:10 +0000 UTC]

maybe becuase she was "lost" or mandark never saw her after the time of number 12 and a little of nostalgia like you say.

Wickfield In reply to LaDy-Musical [2012-06-11 13:05:03 +0000 UTC]

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Wickfield In reply to pawned777 [2012-01-17 14:14:10 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah, good question! I have her scaled so she's actually shorter than Dexter (#12 is about as tall as Mandark and you can see in my first Ego Trip sketchdump where Dee Dee stands in relation to Mandark). My logic is that Dee Dee leveled off pretty soon (growing like an average human haha) whereas Dexter went from tiny to adult a lot faster.
