Description

I've gotten around to redesigning some of the TNR Nightlights, and boy are those dragons cannon designs strange! I know that some of the reason behind the strange NL designs is the people behind the show trying to make the NLs look different from previous furies, and part of it is that the creators outright confirmed that Thunder (and his pack) are the products of Hapsburgian Inbreeding, but I think it stands to reason that budget issues are also at play here.

The issues I had with Thunders original design were:

- His head looked like a weird lumpy shoebox with a beak randomly tacked on at the front and odd vertically deep nubs- in other words, not aerodynamic

- His body had weird proportions and odd shapes that just didn't quite work out, like wings that looked more like a cross between a Skrills and a Wooly Howls Wings, or the odd trident shaped tail wings

- Thunder somehow looked both more detailed and less detailed than Toothless, as in having a vaguely scale like texture all over the place, while lacking finely detailed scales

The new Thunder is less inbred and more streamlined, bearing something close to the classic "Adult NL" silhouette as defined by School Of Dragons before it shut down. Thunder is still a Bicolor Nightlight (going off the speculation that the Furies have a White Spotting Gene like cats), but his white coloring is now distributed differently. he now has three white mitts, white streaks on his wings, and white edges on his tail wings in addition to having a white underbelly and a lightning bolt shaped blaze. Like other NLs and Night Furies before him, Thunder can blast electricity, electrocute other dragons, and even cloak himself with an electrically charged plasma blast. I'm not so sure he would still have the EMP blast, though... I suppose that in TNRs cannon, the Night Lights traded their ability to camouflage for the ability to generate EMP blasts that could knock out anything that doesn't have a generator. Unless this is disproven later on in The Nine Realms by its creators, I think it's reasonable to assume that that trade off was made.
