Description
A scene from 'Casualties of War', the twelfth story in my Avatar: The Last Airbender fan-fiction series found at [link]Excerpt from 'Casualties of War'
(chapter 7 - Innocence
Suddenly, the door burst open, and Zuko spun away from the wall to face the threat with swords poised to strike. But the sight of his assailant left him frozen in shock.
The woman’s hairstyle was different from what he’d drawn, with ribbons of silvery-grey sweeping through the dark tresses near her temples, and there were perhaps more care-worn lines around the eyes that he didn’t remember her ever having before. But aside from that, the likeness to the image tucked away in his tunic was more than startling…it was perfect.

This is also almost how imagined that scene to play out. The only difference is, mine was from Zuko's point of view, seeing his mother for the first time after a long time, how she looked like.

Ideally (if this had been animated the way i imagined it in my head), that would have been the screen immediately before this one.
Sometimes, i wish i had the time (and the energy) to do my entire series as a comic book, because that would have been a lot closer to the way i conceive the ideas for my stories. But that's WAY more effort than i can afford with a full time job and a five year old son.

Yay! I got my wish!
I really like the framing in this picture, especially on the right side, where all you can see is a rear three-quarters view of her eye, but it still conveys the expression perfectly.
I also like Zuko's hair. I've noticed since about the middle of Season 2 that his character development is depicted visually through his hairstyle, and you have the right vibe going here--it's gotten long enough to look soft again, and while the cut is sloppy, it's not tangled or chaotic. Very much what he must be feeling at this moment.

It's funny you mention Zuko's hair because you have no idea how much i agonize over drawing it. And it DOES have to look -just right- for whatever scene i am doing or it messes up the mood. I'm stunned anyone would -get- that and actually point it out.
Thanks!

The lighting on this was trickier than i thought it would be, but i think it turned out rather well.
Thank you!

Thanks, I'm rather pleased that the drawing (for once) came out EXACTLY as i imagined it in my head when i wrote the scene.

Thanks!
Amazingly enough, i did the faces without any reference (which is not something i usually do or recommend). But I was quite pleased with how they turned out.

I always need references! Well, I'm especially impressed now by the expressions now that I know you didn't use any references.
