This is good for teaching people who want to learn how to critique. Unfortunately we still got a lot of people who think they already know how to critique and don't think there's anything wrong with the way they currently criticize others, so they probably won't read this.

I guess even if this helps just a few deviants, it'll be completely worth it : ) Good write-up.

And I just had an ironic thought that maybe you should request critiques on this tutorial and get tons of them xDDDD

yeah, there are a LOT of people who think critiquing work means telling someone how much they suck and then feel smug when the artist gets angry. i do hope it helps people who are confused about how to critique artwork

Great explanation! This is very close to what we were taught in art school for critiquing each other's work. Too often you see all positive or all negative. I'd also add the suggestion to try to be enthusiastic and try *not* to be condescending - the former can do wonders for an artist, while the latter can ruin an afternoon!

Thanks for putting this out there!

yeah, i think beyond just being rude, being condescending can really leave lasting and bitter effects! and thanks! this is the method i made for myself in art school and it really hasn't let me down yet!
