Description Earlier map than WotWD. My first with this template actually. ASB, but it was fun to test out. And this one has a story!

So for this timeline, the PoD is in 1945. The war making countries desperate on both sides has the Emperor of Japan looking for ways to keep his people strong. The solution? Religion. He starts pushing State Shinto even harder. His divinity becomes decreed by Law, and mandatory public prayer is put into place. The same is even done at military bases. Surprisingly, it works for a time, and the Allies, having been further reluctant to use their atomic bomb, realize that the only way to subjugate Japan is to do so. So it is that during the government run, country-wide Hatsumode festival, two atomic bombs decimate Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The large congregation of people in both areas puts the death toll in the millions. Japan surrenders immediately. Following this defeat, people have lost faith in both the Emperor and government, as well as religion.

A new form of governance arose; Intellectualism. The idea was that it a country would be led by Philosophers, Artists, and Scientists. The idea spread quickly in Japan, but fell apart when several Intellectualist Party funded scientists were found to be clinically insane after several failed experiments. Many believed that if those people were the intellectuals to lead them, they were better off with what they have. And thus the idea was reformed into Individualism, in which any and all people could become "Intellectuals" and help contribute to society. In 1969, the Creators Revolution sprang and the Individualist "Collaborative of Japan" was born. Economically they were similar to capitalists as the individual's work was what mattered. However, they focused more on creativity rather than efficiency. This led to the USSR giving much aid to China in attempts to have a stronger ally against the Japanese.

The remainder of the Cold War went similarly to our own as Japan did not wish to get involved, however Korea remained fairly untouched as a renewed Japan did step in to help keep the peace, eventually uniting the Peninsula. Fast forward to the 2nd Great Depression of 2015, and things get interesting. Japan is one of the few states unaffected thanks to Individualism, as their economy was based upon innovations rather than sales. The Canadians, eager to get back in the game, tried to adopt Individualism. However, their version was twisted; only certain "individuals" had the ability to contribute, turning the country into a near oligarchy. This created tension within both the eastern and northern parts of the country. Yukon, The Northwest Territories, and Nunavut declared themselves sovereign as the Republic of the Northern Peoples, feeling they were the least represented in the new government. British Colombia eventually joined as well to become the country of Cascadia. The small war waged was bloody, and only stopped because of UN intervention. The two Republics was granted their sovereignty.

Quebec and the provinces east of it began to have their own thoughts of self-determination and soon the Canadian civil war officially began. The lack of support from other countries for the main government made it an easy, if tiresome, victory for the secessionist. Each province first tried being independent but soon found that being new countries in such a poor economy was much too difficult. All but Quebec formed the Maritime Federation, while the Quebecois thought joining the USA was a much better idea.

Speaking of the US, the Depression was the final straw on the camel's back before the People had had enough. The Reformation War was short and quick, as the near entire population of the United States was against the government. Soon the United States was reset, becoming a capitalist, libertarian, democratic paradise. At east until corruption sets in again. Eventually, Cascadia began to fall under the pressure of the Depression as well, and agreed to annexation by the USA. The surge in population and land, as well as resources, gave the newly reformed US the boost it needed to crawl out of the Depression. Mexico, desperate for wealth, sold them Baja and the Yucatan, and eventually was made an American Protectorate. Panama, a long supporter of the US, was soon invaded by Costa Rica, sparking the Caribbean War and soon the entire area of all countries collapsed from strain. The US began annexation of these areas, in an attempt to further their new found prosperity.

Elsewhere, China begins to mimic the actions of the US, believing they too can prosper through expansion. They invade multiple regions, and while not as successful as America, they succeed in their endeavor. Other failing states, fearing Chinese invasion, begin seeking Japanese aid. Many Pacific islands actually join the Collaborative, while others become Individualist. Korea becomes torn between China and Japan as both have major influence throughout. A new Cold War sparks between the PRC and Japan.

In the European continent, things are shaking up as well. The European Union becomes a physical political entity as its members believe doing so will help them recover. A few are opposed to it, such as Sweden and Greece. Sweden and Norway unite into the Scandinavian Republic, and Southern Greece joins the new Turkish government to become the country of New Byzantium. Greenland leaves Denmark and joins the RoNP. Iceland becomes isolationist in order to stay out of the situation. Switzerland is content to watch as everyone else panics, their own smart economic dealings leaving them the wealthiest country in Europe. Scotland and Northern Ireland grow opposed to the EU as the UK is in talks of joining, especially when rioting causes the dissolution of both of their Assemblies. They declare independence from the UK just before it joins the EU, Ireland being quick to come to their aid. They soon become the United Free Kingdoms of Scotland, Ireland, and Ulster.

The Second Yugoslavic Republic is also formed by EU urging in order to help quell protests in the region. It becomes a safe, ethically equal, incredibly totalitarian puppet of the EU. Russia has its own problems as well; the collapse of the government leads to Imperialist taking control.

The New Russian Empire begins trying to reclaim the lands of the original. Ukraine and Romania are easily conquered, and Kazakhstan soon joins the fold as well. The Caucasus Region uprises and forms their own country. Belarus stands defiant against the Empire, becoming close allies with the UFK, Switzerland, and Caucasus. Siberia goes Individualist and keeps a tight defensive line against Russia. As the years pass, the 2nd Cold War between China and Japan escalates. China goes through a Second Communist Revolution as many communist citizens feel the government has lost touch with true communism. The Chinese Commune proves even more aggressive than the its predecessor. The new Islamic Commune, a communist and Muslim state formed by the now pro-religion China, joins as a major ally (Note: Japan isn't anti-religion, they see it as another philosophy to study, but discourage actual forms of worship).

India becomes a battle ground for the two superpowers of Japan and China. Islamic and Chinese troops come from the North and West, with Japanese troops in the South. Eastern India becomes independent and falls under Chinese influence. An utter war zone, the UN steps in and tries to take control of the neutral central region.

Now for the UN, things have been interesting. Their warnings and actions usually go unheeded, but most programs have been proving successful. When Somalia falls into anarchy once more, the UN lands and eventually becomes the de facto government. Seeking a truly neutral area besides the increasingly apathetic Switzerland (having been barred from New York during the uprisings), Somalia officially becomes the headquarters of the United Nations, making it the largest piece of international land in the world. It serves as the UN Peacekeepers main base of operations, and becomes a thriving hub of commerce.

New Zealand, though remaining neutral in the political atmosphere, adopted Individualism, and took advantage of the rejuvenated racial crisis in Australia to conquer the eastern portion of the continent. The Aboriginals were granted the west and north.

It is now 2025 and the world is torn between four major factions;
  • The Hegemonal Pact, a group of the most influential countries and the UN.
  • The Individualist Cooperative, a group of Individualist nations loyal to Japan, serving as the NATO for the 2nd Cold War.
  • The Communist Cooperative, a communist alliance.
  • The League of Independent States, a group of countries who want nothing to do with the expansionist superpowers nor the feuding ideologies of the 2nd Cold War. They find strength in numbers, with Switzerland at the forefront.
