Description And here it is! The completed version of the map I posted a while ago. I'm still iffy on some of the planet names I chose, but I'll chalk it up to evolution of languages over the millennia. For instance, the Khanate had no name for a long time, and Magna Karakorum was simply Karakorum until contact with the Romans led to the adoption of the word "Magna" to Mongolian and the increasing colloquial use of the term 'Magna Karakorum' for the entirety of the Khanate. Alright, now time for some profiles and some story-like aspects!

"My role as Legate of the Frumentarii has made it necessary to gather intelligence on the various nations of the galaxy. As usual, I will keep my report brief, to the point, and without needless digression. Enclosed with this message is that report. Notice I have included a short report on the Imperium. No, I do not think you that much of a fool. However, with the use of foreign mercenaries and increasing amounts of internal rebels, I felt it appropriate to add. Take care to know our enemy well, Lania. Our military is strong, but ignorant brute will always fall to an informed one.

"ROME: The Greater Roman Imperium: Ever since the disappearance of various rivals to the Empire began upon the ascension of Augustus Caesar as the first Emperor, signaling him to truly be the embodiment of Sol Invictus and Jupiter (although this truth would take several more Emperors before being accepted as official Roman law), Rome grew like a in the sun, reaching farther and farther, without measure. The finding of the Gods' Armory in 800 AUC, upon the ascension of Imperator Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, saw Rome grow even quicker. Vulcan-staffs firing shards of metal, Mars-belts that created invisible shields, and Apollo-chariots that allowed Rome to reach the stars all propelled the Imperium to where it is now. The conquest of Tellus, the great homeworld and homesystem of Man, was achieved in 830 AUC, and the first colonies upon foreign worlds had begun. 

Today, Rome is a thriving civilization. The Imperator is venerated as Sol Invictus and Jupiter, and the his Imperatrix as Juno. The Heir or Heiress is then the embodiment of Mars or Bellona. Foreigners and various citizens with disloyalty in their veins view this worship as idiotic, claiming it is merely a way of ensuring control and preventing anyone from questioning the actions of the Imperator and his Senate. While this blind devotion can prove a liability, such as any solider that deems an action against the Imperator may no longer serve loyally, it is a strong strength, as all Romans are united in purpose and action. 

Socially, Romans maintain a simple household structure of a man and wife with one son and one daughter. While women have many of the same advantages as men, the highest ranks of Roman society can only be held by males. However, there have been Imperatrixes with no Imperator, known as Caesaras, who would then marry Imperator-consorts. Clothing is another matter of Roman society that remains the same. Togas and tunics are the main dress of all, with color often used to indicate ranks and status. Brown indicates a politician. Red means military. Yellow means merchant. White means priest. Green means farmer. A purple sash indicates royalty. A blue sash indicates patrician. No sash indicates a plebeian. A grey sash indicates a former criminal or slave.

GAUL: The Gallic systems were initially inhabited by the tribes of Gaul from Tellus before their disappearance. They, thanks to their disunified and war-like society, discovered spacefaring technology a good time later than the Romans. Merger attempts at colonization had begun when the Imperium found them. As an act of good will (and because of worry that they would be too disloyal of an element to society), the Imperator aided the Gallics in settling their planets, which the Imperium had at first claimed for their own. Today, the Free Systems of Gaul are still divided, as many still cling to old traditions, while many more are becoming 'Romanticized', realizing that as they live upon Latin-named worlds, eat Roman-supplied foods, dress in Roman-suplied clothing, learn Latin as a second language, and have even begun worshipping the Imperator, and have come to think the Gallic systems ought to simply join the Imperium.

Gallic society is much more liberal than Roman society. Women and men are utterly equal, and Gaul is a democratic meritocracy. The Pagi rules absolute, but must be elected every two years, and as such must constantly pander to the people and do only what makes them happy, leading to a very ineffective government. Gauls often where whatever is comfortable, and sometimes this can mean walking around naked, although those that do often have a high-quality Mars-box and a weapon on hand. The Legion should make sure the soldiers remain untempted by bare Gallic women. Further, the axe of a Gaul is their most prized possession. Overtime, the traditional weapon is now a symbol of a family, each one being unique, and wielded by the head of the house and then by their successor when the head of house becomes too old to battle. A Gaul would rather live forever in exile and die a coward than to return from battle without their axe.

KEMET: Aegyptus was once a province full of many dissidents. Upon Imperator Augustus Caesar's ascension, however, these elements vanished. They arrived in the Kemet system, where they met empires from various stages of development in the region of the Nile. While these Pharaohs would prove challenging, the line of Marc Antony and Cleopatra still rules to this day as Pharaohs. A close ally of Rome because of their history, Kemet (or Aegyptus as many Romans still refer to it) has shown to be unlike the Gauls in that they still retain their culture pridefully and unwaveringly.

Kemeti society is similar to Gallic society in that in most regards men and women hold equal status. However, women are beneath men politically, as in Rome, and only males may be in the military. Another common nickname for Kemetis is 'Dog Lords' for men, and 'Cat Ladies' for women. Never is a Kemeti family seen without both their cat and their hound, and soldier seen without a war hound is like a soldier without a limb. These animals are held in such high regard that to threaten one beast of one family is to gain the ire of the entire community. Further, while Osiris, Ra, and Horus remain the most revered, worship of Anubis is increasingly common, and one should not be disturbed by the presence of dogheaded statuettes in most households, where blood is often placed in a bowl in offering.

NEW EDEN: New Eden, while without many systems under its government, is very influential. Supposedly formed from an alternate Rome from a future that had no disappearances of empires, this Christian theocracy manipulates many strings. In Rome, all religions are allowed so long as the Imperator and his family is worshiped. While more radical Christians refuse to even do this as Jews do, many have compromised to worship but hold that their God is higher than all others, and that Christ was his only embodiment, and so they worship him as well, though never publicly. Christians are hard to know, and the Papacy of New Eden is where their true loyalties lie. We would take heart to never offend them.

New Eden's society is more conservative than Rome's. Heresy is treated with burning at the stake, and women are little more than property. However, unless for 'the greater good' (as Roman Christians justify), Christians never lie, steal, cheat, or kill without the consent of the Papacy (as seen in their 'Crusades'). Mostly because doing so either earns them an execution, or an excommunication which makes them marked for death (for a good price as well) should they be seen. As such, they are good ambassadors and merchants, always the most trustworthy. A New Edenite is the best friend a man can have...unless an Inquisitor speaks to them at a Confessional session.

ZION: The Judean Republic of Zion is strange. Their people come both from Rome (both the Disappeared Tribes from the time of Jesus the Christ and those of Rome at the ascension of Imperator Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus) and from the same supposed world as New Eden's Rome, although from further in time, being the same Jews trying to escape German persecution. While the world they arrived on was conquered by Germany, the Romans granted them what is now Zion in order to both gain a new ally, and to remove the Jews from the populace as they had with Gaul. The pharisees of Zion are elected by the Judean elite and their rabbis. All foreigners are treated with disdain, although Romans receive mostly apathy, referred to as 'Goyim' or 'Gentile'.

Judean society is strict and harsh, following the laws of the Torah, and, more so, the Talmud. They are secretive, and any that try to learn more about the inner workings of Jewish society are either killed by gas chamber execution or simply told to leave (after being publicly beaten within an inch of their lives). However, no system holds better merchants or craftsmen. Judean jewelry is the finest in the galaxy, and if you want a bank to trust, find one with a headquarters in Zion.

GERMANY: The Galactic German Reich is one of Rome's greatest Rivals. The Aryan's within have taken full advantage of technology they have developed to manipulate the genetics of a fetus. No one is born in the Reich that is not up to the supposed perfection of Aryans, and foreigners must wear large badges that bear the symbol of their nation of origin for easy identification. The Fuhrer, ruling from the 'Throne of the Empire' is, while not venerated as god like the Imperator, seen as chosen by God (Note that all Aryans are Christian, meaning that they have become the true muscle of New Eden). To disrespect him is to earn death. The origins of the German Reich are similar to New Eden and Zion. In their world, no empires ever vanished. Instead they would rise as a powerful empire from the lands of the Franks and other such tribes, humiliated at their peak before they rose to a greater height under their first Fuhrer. They came to their homesystem of Thron Der Reich following their great success in a war against them, of which they had only fought a few years of before they were transported.

The Planet of Untermenschland is where all foreign criminals, Aryan criminals, and slaves of various kinds live. The Twin Systems of Ubermenschland (Often referred to as A and B by Germans) are where the most powerful, wealthy, and influential Aryans reside. Legions are recommended to avoid all three systems in case they are mistaken (or perhaps purposefully) as slaves and forced to work and forgotten from all records.

German society, like New Edenite society, is very conservative, however punishment is less severe for those who go against society's norms. Mostly because all Aryans are bred and genetically designed never to go against these norms. Any who do lose all rights to wealth and land, and their children will become slaves, as it is believed that this disobedience is genetic. Should the children of these new slaves prove loyal, then they may apply to be freed from government service and become free citizens oncemore. The National Socialist Party has total control of all parts of German life. Anyone visiting the Reich must make sure to only buy things officially produced by a nationalized corporation of Germany, or face execution. Additionally, any not officially in the party is not viable for any occupation or position of paid labor, so it is highly recommended that Romans gain 'Foreign membership' as official 'Fascists Abroad'. The ideology of their party is based upon their Roman Empire, and many should find it rather agreeable aside from the racial aspect. Indeed, were it not for that racial component, Germany and Rome would be the closest of allies. However they are currently or deadliest rival, for they share our same strengths.

MAGNA KARAKORUM: The Khanate of Magna Karakorum descends from an empire known as Mongolia, and where ruled by Möngke Khan when they were transported. Their society reflects a somewhat nomadic lifestyle as, while permanent cities are increasingly common, many Mongols today use collapsible homes (anywhere from two to three stores) pulled by either a mechanical or living horse. When the city-herds stop, the city is organized in the exact same way, thus the only thing modern Mongol world maps have that differ from any other is that they keep track of where on their yearly path a city is. 

Socially, the Khanate is focused solely on efficiency. Freedom of religion is allowed solely to avoid any conflict, as is the freedom to marry foreigners. Mongols, like Rome, accept many into their culture, however, the people of Magna Karakorum are much harsher about the necessary qualifications for citizenship. Their Yassa requires that all citizens have perfect knowledge of Mongol history, language, warfare, and politics to become a citizen, and all males are expected to serve in the military, although female troops are not unheard of, another freedom allowed for the sole purpose of allowing greater efficiency by removing a point of contention. Group punishment is the most common form of disciplinary action, and as such, any one individual that commits an act of wrong will bring punishment to their entire family and group of friends, and so visiting legions are to have all members kept under close watch, or the entire legion may be punished, as the Mongols only allow diplomatic immunity to go so far. In terms of cultural points of weakness, the horse and bow (now the horse and Sagitarii-Class Vulcan-staff) are the cultural lifeblood of the Mongols. Family horses, be they real of mechanical, are kept in top shape, and Mongols are both some of the best beast handlers and mechanics.

KNIGHTLAND: The Chivalrous Kingdoms of the Azure Shield, or Knightland for short, is one of the most politically complicated places in the known galaxy. Each of their planets was at first settled by a different Order of Christian Knights that had been on a Crusade on an alternate Tellus. They had all discovered their own Gods' Armories (Or Arcs of the Covenant as Knightlanders call them) and immediately went to war with one another. No one is quite sure why the 'Wars of Knightly Rivalry' occurred, although it might have to do with a violation or two of the Knightlanders' rather complex Code of Chivalry. However, eventually one man would rise known as Sir Brodrick the Just, a Knight who was loyal to no one Order, and who instead rallied other neutral knights to his own banner. This banner was simply that each knight would paint their shields blue with a small white cross, and so they became the Knights of the Azure Shield. They had members on every planet at war, and they then worked together to take over and depose the ruling Grandmasters and Marshals. Eventually the central most Realm of Jerusalem, and the one viewed as most holy, was conquered and made the capital of the new Chivalrous Kingdoms of the Azure Shield.

The feudal system of Knightland is incredibly complex and easily muddled and manipulated, and thus a Furmentarii member is embedded in each Order ruling a Realmworld. Something of note is that, while the Realm of the Crown of Thorns is the capital, the most politically powerful system is the Realm of Cyrpus, ruled by the Order of the Knights Templar. Socially, Knightland is an interesting place. While utterly loyal to New Eden, most people are loyal first to their lords and their Order, to which they must either be a Serf (if a peasant/plebeian) or a Knight (if a nobleman/patrician). Woman cannot have certain positions, and above all are not allowed to fight, but not because they are inferior. They are instead viewed as betters, as fairer and also more fragile, and thus the brutish male has an obligation to serve and protect. Women in Knightland will find themselves pampered and treated with the utmost respect; in fact disrespecting a woman is punishable by death. 

SPARTA: The Spartans are from before even Rome, disappearing in the middle of a war with a nation known as Thebes. Arriving on their new homeworld, the Spartans thrived on the planet that most foreigners describe as a 'deathtrap covered in poison'. The fumes on the world are not toxic, but can cause dizziness and sickness; however, the more physically fit the individual, the weaker the effects and the faster they adapt and become immune. The Spartans lifestyle of perfection and constant trial made them a perfect fit, and the monstrous fauna was to them a new challenge to overcome. 

While they did inhabit other worlds, Spartans today only inhabit five. The three most brutal planets, each one in increasing harshes are used as Trial Worlds. Paides is where all children ages 7-17 train under paidonómos, and when the group known as an agelai left, their particular paidonómos would move on with them to Paidiskoi, where the children train until age 19. From there the agelai goes to Hebontes, where they train in their final stage until age 29. From there the agelai becomes an enomotia, or a full fledged unit of an army. Members must be voted into acceptance into the group, or cannot become citizens of Sparta. Such individuals are known as an Áxia típota, or 'Worthy of Nothing'. Áxia típota have the knowledge and skills of a Spartan but lack the honor or are generally unlikable. Many become criminals and thugs for hire, but must not be trusted; someone bad enough to be rejected by the Spartans is someone not to be trifled with. And while the ages listed are for born Spartans, any may train become accepted as Spartans, merely leaving the trial planet in question when their paidonómos deems they are ready.

Once, the Spartans had one army that worked solely for the protection of their lands. However, after observing his people become lazy from prosperity, a Spartan calling himself Leonidas, after a great Spartan King of old, would lead a rebellion of the strongest Spartans to become King. Please note that not all Spartan Kings since then have been named Leonidas; the name is simply adopted by the King when he takes power, replacing his old one, much like the name Caesar is added to our Imperator's name. The colonies were then abandoned, the homesystem of Sparta left as the only true Spartan settlement. From there, the government works not to govern, but to conduct the affairs of Spartan enomotia, who are now the galaxy's greatest mercenaries and bounty hunters. An evolution of ancient Spartan helms, Spartan warriors are best known for their (in)famous helmets with T-shaped visors. The Spartans who show great promise in more...delicate work are sent to Krypteia, whose try location is known only to the Spartan government, and work as hackers and spies for hire.

Socially, Spartans are tough. Men and Women alike train to be warriors, and, while heterosexual marriages are required to ensure population growth, homosexual relationships are encouraged to ensure as tightknit a group as possible within the enomotia. Further, never trust a Spartan, man or woman, who has no clothes on; this means they have just done their daily exercise, and thus are at their most capable, full of adrenalin, and are the most easily prone to violence.

VIKINGS: The Vikings (or Norsemen) are the simplest group to cover. They are traders, raiders, and scavengers. Their largest trade ports were transported to various systems, and now they work together as trade posts for all. Viking Apollo-chariots often go out and raid whatever they please, bringing it back to their home trading system. What they have taken is then traded away or used, and some Noresmen prefer to simply trade, and others still to simply scavenge disaster sights and the locations of the raids of others. Uppsala is their religious capital more than a political one, where all Norsemen who do not die in a raid go to fight to the death against various beastly fauna, as their religion dictates that they must die in battle to reach their greatest afterlife of Valhalla. 

Viking society is rather similar to the Spartans, although they instead are more inclined to work as a crew upon an Apollo-chariot than as a fighting unit. Women and men share nearly the same rights, although Norse males are more inclined to combat, whereas Norse women prefer to become mechanics and doctors, providing the important work of maintenance for society, ships, and soldiers alike.

BLACK STAR SOCIETY: The Society is not well known. They would prefer to stay this way. I am a member, and now you too, Legate Lania are offered membership. This portion of my report will delete itself once this file is sent out to anyone else. I know you well enough to know you will not refuse. The Black Star takes in members from all human Empires to work towards one common goal; the extermination of all non-humans. They are a blight upon the cosmos as I once heard you say. Planet Alpha's location is a secret, but if you are interested in joining us, in becoming a true manipulator of the Galaxy at large, you need only come find me on Hadria, in the Minerva System. I will take you to Alpha, and from there you may be assigned to another of the Greek-lettered planets depending on your role in the Society, although I have no doubt you strategic prowess will have you reporting to Zeta. The Society was founded by individuals from the Cia of Yusa, or so we are told. The rest of their history is the galaxy's history. Not a single war has occurred that they do have not had their hands in. I'm sure that is something to interest you, at least.

YAUTJA: The Yautja are an alien species known for their obsession with hunting and honor. Not much else is known, other than that their homeworld is not allowed to be visited by humans who have not become honorary Yautja, and that every other world they have colonized are merely hunting reserves where the most dangerous creatures in the galaxy are released to be hunted for sport. This similarity has led to many Spartans becoming Yautja and many Yautja becoming Spartans. And no, do not ask how the intra-enomotia sexual relations occur with Yautja members. There are plenty of videos on the InfiForum for those who are curious.

XENOMORPHS: The Xenomorph Collective was once a much more primordial thing, with the Xenomorphs acting like animals or a virus than as sentient beings. However, their rapid and constant evolution (which has thankfully begun declining) has led them to become a bit more 'humanoid' in that they have become bipedal and now have a spoken language. Further, the individual non-Queen Xenomorphs have become more autonomous, capable of individual thought and ingenuity, but their minds are easily overridden by the telepathic minds of Xenomorph Queens. Most of their worlds are former Yautja Reserves that were in early development, as well as various Human systems they overtook, and some believe their current homesystem, referred to as 'Blood Home', is actually a human system transported from some hellish future. Their government is an even bigger mystery. All we know is that this 'Queen Ripley' is the head of them all, and in most visions provided by lower Queen Xenomorphs to Humans, she is presented to them as a human woman-xenomorph hybrid of sorts, although this is likely just an avatar provided to humans to make the mental communication easier to process. 

MALA'KAK: The Mala'kak claim to be the forerunners to Humanity, the Yuatja, and Xenomorphs. Whether these claims are true or not remains to be seen, as they refuse to be tested by Human scientists, and remain hostile to all who attempt to come to their worlds. However, the Mala'kak are avid collectors of the strange and bizarre, and as such are often seen scavenging around the outskirts of battlefields and empires. Their ingenuity (and upgrading and reverse engineering of the things they collect) and claim of being progenitors to all major sentient races has led many to call them Engineers. They are best to be avoided. They may not be our forerunners, as we were made by the Gods, but they are the oldest race around, and their technology the most advanced, if stunted in growth because of a long period of societal decline. To be blunt; let sleeping lions lie.

The only other group reported to be around, and they are more of a myth than anything, is the Lords of the Ethereal and Physical. We know nothing about them. Not a thing. The only supposed piece of information is that they are not Human, Yautja, Xenomorph, or Mala'kak. Another rumor is that they have possessed people before, and once released these people claim that the Lords are strange monsters, ruled by a being named 'Cthulu'. We have begun collaborating with the Germans to find out more. The head of this 'Eldritch Project' is a man named Lovecraft. You may find him on Providence, in the Othrys system."

The idea behind this is that several civilizations were zapped from a certain point in time and find themselves on a lush virgin world with a trove of technology, likely at the hands of meddlesome Eldritch gods. I choose a few groups and empires from throughout history. For some, they appeared alongside various neighboring nations and one prevailed over another or didn't. I didn't happen to choose any of the Chinese Dynasties, Hindu Empires, Muslim Caliphates, or Japanese Empire. So, none of them are there. All of those people were assimilated by the Romans, who were left on Earth and saw several of their rivals vanish, and who essentially received guns, tanks, and rockets, and even more advanced technology under the reign of Caligula. Others who might have been given a world were killed by the Xenomorphs or conquered by another empire, so if you really want to headcanon it, then we can have it that the Japanese and Chinese appeared on worlds near the Mongols and were conquered, and similarly for the Persians, Hindus, and Muslims.

To first question; technically. There are also some Eldritch Abominations out there, but then those are more Gods than Xenos.

As for the second, not necessarily. The empires were merely moved to a random habitable planet in the Milky Way. A few got places that were more suited to them than Earth, like Magna Karakorum has more steppes than any other type of landmass, and the British--before they were overrun by Xenomorphs--lived on New London, where most land was islands that had climate similar to the British Isles. However, Kemet is almost entirely thick tropical jungle or tundra, and the Viking worlds are everywhere on the spectrum. In those cases, the culture either adapted the planet (like the Vikings keep their cities colder than most of the worlds they live on) or the culture adapted (Kemeti culture now venerates several new gods, like Anapus, Sister of Anubis, a wolf-headed goddess of conception, birthdays, and friendship, or the bear-headed god Ekteth, god of winter and the cold).

I had to keep it vague because it's story oriented, but the Black Star Society was founded by three groups that gained their own planets; Hoover's CIA, the Second KKK, and the Ordo Templis Orientis. The first "Star Ocean Triumvirate" was made up of Director Hoover, Wizard Evans, and Frater Superior Crowley. They gained their espionage from the CIA, and the KKK became more focused on Human supremacy than White supremacy. They have also transformed the Law of Thelema into meaning that any means are acceptable to achieve a goal, and that the Society is above all laws of Man. They're very hierarchical, similar to Freemasonry, and many of their agents have no idea who other agents are aside from those they share a Department Planet with. Each planet has it's own purpose; Alpha is the leadership, Beta is training of new recruits for the field, Gamma is scientific research, Delta is organization of rebel groups, Epsilon is weapons development, Zeta is military operations, Eta is criminal operations, Theta is political operations/blackmail, and Iota is internal affairs. Supposedly there is a Planet Omega where the Black Star Society would flee in case of some sort of galaxy ending event (namely from the Lords of the Ethereal and Physical), but of course no one knows where it is. Probably because it's a pocket dimension.

Ha, well I learned from the master. I was reading both Vivere Militare Est and Ad Astra Per Aspera when I first started this, and re-reading both when I finished it up, along with reading your entries in Space Cadet! AAPA was definitely the most influential though. I originally was going to have an imperial space US allied with Germany, but then I thought having the 'Republican Experiment' get snuffed out by the Xenomorph hoards was much more fun
