Description For a while now I've been meaning to write a new Guide for how I draw in Sugimori's style, but I never had the time. Recently I was able to find time to make the guide, so here it is! I hope it's helpful. I'm pretty bad at giving advice (and by extension, even worse at writing guides) so if this isn't helpful at all I apologize.

Like it says at the end, if you have any questions regarding the guide, feel free to ask.

This is a great tutorial. I use Paint Tool SAI, though, but I think this will also work for humans.

Yes. All of the functions in the tutorial are available in Photoshop.

I've never used Photoshop, so I'm not sure. I can't imagine it wouldn't. The only think I'm not 100% sure Photoshop has is the Threshold effect mentioned in the guide, which is a pretty important step.

Hi! This is a great tutorial! I have a question though. During the shading/highlighting part, how do you make the "blend" thing? I'm really confused.

I'm not exactly sure what you're referring to. All that needs to be done to achieve the proper shadow and highlight effects is to adjust the Opacity and Hardness of the brush. As long as the brush is "soft" enough (but not too soft) the shadows and highlights should blend properly after some practice.

Great Tutorial, I love the section you did which explained the highlighting and shading process typically used by Sugimori. Very well described.
