Description
EDIT: New version which should work with the new pony models: [link]This is mainly for the SFM Ponies group to which I'm submitting a generic walk cycle .dmx for the pony models (Download: [link] ). It should work for any standard-size V3-or-below pony model. Feel free to use it for anything, no credit required, blah blah.
To use, save the .dmx in a SFM folder, right click on an animation set (it makes it easier if you deselect the rootTransform), Import animation, select the file you saved and position the model as you wish. Unlike sequences, importing .dmx animations overwrites pre-existing motion data so either copy that and paste it back after you've imported or import it first thing.
I'll probably have to update this once the new models are released, since they use different bone names that won't recognise this animation. Thankfully I won't have to redo the whole thing since I can just parent the bones of a new model to these and re-export the result.

Make sure you've deselected Body->rootTransform before you import the animation. You can also look around for the manipulator handles to see where it's gone and move it back, but the first option is easier.

Could anybody come up with a Filly Gallop animation loop, as in Sweetie Belle model size?

It shouldn't be too difficult to translate the movement over. I think you'd need to import it on to a full-sized model, drag its animation set on to a filly model's animation set so the filly's bones are parented to the other's, then select only the rotation controls (none of the "pos" controls) of all the filly's bones and use the "Zero" procedural preset on them.

Are you using the right model version? The newest models have "vn_" before their names, and they should use the .dmx from the first download link in the description. Others should use the second one, obviously.

If the .dmx you're importing has "_new" at the end, that might be the problem. I don't know what else it could be, sorry.

if you have the old model then change it to (imma use twilight for example) change from notepad or notepad++ "$modelname "twilightsparkle.mdl" to $modelname "VN_twilgihtsparkle.mdl" and "$cdmaterials "models\mlp\twilightsparkle\"
$cdmaterials "models\mlp\common\" toΒ $cdmaterials "models\VN_mlp\twilightsparkle\"
$cdmaterials "models\VN_mlp\common\", oh and if you want the colors to your model with "VN_" then go to the usermod\materials\models and create a new folder and name it VN_mlp and in it put your model's name that is on the mlp file to the VN_mlp file and with the vtf and the others in it and go to the notepad or notepad++ on the .VMT file change every "models/mlp" to "models/VN_mlp" and it will be done so if you still got a problem with it tell me so i can help you or xPrEpWnEdx if you want =3

It's not disappearing, it's just moved really far away. "rootTransform" should be under the "Body" group; have everything selected but that when you import the animation.

I got a GIF of a walk cycle from the show and copied the pose in each frame in SFM, then used the graph editor to interpolate the model's movements between the "frames" I'd posed.

How do I stop the pony from moving foward right after I import it when I only want to keep the walking animation?
π: 0 β©: 1
xPrEpWnEdx In reply to Parlinten [2013-06-29 19:21:08 +0000 UTC]
If you haven't already, deselect the rootTransform control before you import it. Otherwise, with rootTransform still deselected, select the animation samples of when the pony is walking and drag the model around with the translation and/or rotation tool so its matches what you had in mind.

I think I figured it out all I have to do is to use the playhead preset on the pelvis to make her stop moving.

If that error is what I think it is, you don't open it that way. Right click an animation set and select Import animation.

xPrEpWnEdx In reply to XxthepegasisterxX [2013-05-25 10:03:46 +0000 UTC]
It might be that you need to extend the clip length; right click on the model's animation set, click View in Element Viewer -> ChannelsClip and increase the duration control that's somewhere in there. If that doesn't do anything, try animating it from the pelvis instead of rootTransform.

xPrEpWnEdx In reply to Lone-Heart [2013-05-03 20:47:47 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. Export it from SFM as an image sequence, open the first frame in VirtualDub and you can export it as a GIF from there.
