hi, i am using vista home premium. I tried the top shell mod on my shell32.dll. I replaced it with original and rebooted. After rebooting though, there were some problems. 1) The WMP codecs failed (Nothing could be played on WMP). 2) Winamp could not start. 3) VLC was the only one running but no sound was coming and 4) Some folders could not be opened as they were listed as a file type.
I searched on the net if anybody else had similar problems. I found out that the modded shell32.dll was the problem.
Can you help me find a solution coz I can't put any of themes I downloaded

the shell style will changes with any theme,if you mean how to change it yourself , you have to open an .msstyle file "theme file " with resource tuner and replace the image n 1024 with any other one

in some folders the shell still in bottom, like in the Devices and printers [link] , so you have to do the same steps but in other system files

yacine29 In reply to mefirst [2010-02-27 09:43:39 +0000 UTC]
if you mean those of the top shell ,mouse over the area between the command module "explorer bar "and the preview pane to change its size

thanks for the tutorial, its really weird though as for some reason this breaks cmss-3d on creative sound cards, googled it and other people have had the same problem, its very weird, and a shame because top shellstyle looks way better

if you are using restuner ,open a .msstyle file "aero.msstyle for example" the shell image number is 1022,and the command module is 1010
i am using a software called win7 style builder to create my themes,it is not free but it makes creating vs easier, and don't worry about the image size

For 64x files I use Resourcer 0.9 which is freeware and works great [link]
Here's a question, in XP I always used replacer to replace my files with modified versions, but in Win 7 x64 this don't work, is there a easier way of doing this than booting into safe mode?

Drudger In reply to Drudger [2010-01-25 01:37:58 +0000 UTC]
Edit
I no longer use Resourcer, turns out theres a issue when using it to edit .explorer files [link] , which was the whole reason why I was using it.

interesting software!
to change a system file in windows seven, you can modify the permissions in the security tab of the file, after that rename it to "file.xxx.bak" "see the last screenshot of the tut"

Turns out that Resourcer is not good,[link] , this was the whole reason why I was having problems switching the orb in explorer as it turns out!

Thanks, I will try again, so far I haven't had much luck except to boot into safemode because it always reverts or won't let me make the change.

You mean everytime you change the system file with your one it's same like the previous state?

Drudger In reply to sagorpirbd [2010-01-16 17:45:08 +0000 UTC]
Yes, unless I boot into safemode and do the switch.

No need to boot in safe mood.
First you need to completely disable UAC. then restart in a normal mood.
now it's working, check now ?

Yes! I had to disable UAC, thanks now I got the explorer switched. Now can I reenable the UAC or keep it disabled?

Easy way to do this stuff:

No need to disable UAC, only run as administrator.
