Description "You gonna eat that meat slice, Buddha?"

I have been wanting to make Saint Oniisan fanart for a while but I only got around to it now!

At first I was thinking of drawing them in the style of the manga, but I thought that using this style would be more parodical of the Jesus and Buddha roommate concept.

I need references when working in this style, but I didn't have people to model for me so I pulled out a couple pictures off Getty Images and turned them into Jesus and Buddha. HAH.

This has been one of the most brilliant and hilarious manga I have ever read, and nothing has endeared Jesus to me like this manga has! You know, if my school made me read this manga instead of forcing Church down my throat I would have been a better Catholic. ...Maybe. Nevermind, haha.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate God or Jesus. I think they're awesome! It's what some jerks have done to Christianity that I hate.

it is great

and i know ppl keep sayin the bacon thing but like you said, Jesus did the new thing lol Judaism is a foundation of Christianity, when Jesus came he used the same old rules and simply improved lol 'cause honestly, who in the right mind can stay away from pig lol

Haha yeah, how I see it, even if he was born and lived as a Jew, the religion he is based on now is entirely different. He WAS a Jew, yes, but if he's STILL a Jew to this day, well, isn't that like saying "Hey y'all, I've got this new religion with new ideas that you can follow, but I'm staying right where I am, kk?"

And yes, PIG.

MAAAAN people keep saying that!

He WAS Jewish, kkkkk? They kicked him out of Judaism! He got his own crib now where bacon is welcome!!!

Maaaan if I had my own religion, we would be eating communion bacon instead of communion wafers in church!

Okay, most of my followers will probably be fat. But they'll be happy! Bacon for all! IT IS YOUR SALVATION.

The style you've chosen for this one is interesting. Sorta reminds me of Scanner Darkly (I think that's the movie), where they've got real footage done over with some sorta strange digital smudging/coloring.

I imagine Jesus and Buddha would make great roommates! They're both pretty pacifistic

yapi In reply to seasonofclarity [2010-10-05 02:20:46 +0000 UTC]

I think Scanner Darkly was done by rotoscoping the footage with vectors. I'm not 100% sure, though.

Jesus is like a kid who likes to buy useless things and is just adorable. I have so much love for this manga.

Haha I think the manga can be enjoyed by both religious and non religious people, as long as they get the references. It's hilarious!

But anyway, thank you!

In Matthew he actually says the Jewish eating rules are irrelevant, but there is discussion as to whether or not that means people should eat the prohibited things, including pork.

yapi In reply to Sithspit [2010-10-05 05:18:48 +0000 UTC]

"That is incorrect" is hardly a winning argument. Explain, please? He was born a Jew, lived as a Jew, but Judaism does not include Jesus Christ in its teachings, and the religion that does follow Jesus' teachings is not Jewish. At least that's how I see it.

TheRomanEmpire In reply to yapi [2011-12-24 06:20:33 +0000 UTC]

Jesus was a practicing Jew, he went to synagogue, read from the torah, and preached to a Jewish audience. His early followers were all Jews, and even worshiped at the Temple with the other Jewish sects. Christianity began as a sect of Judaism and coexisted with numerous other Jewish sects. It was only considered a separate religion well after the death of Jesus, who was as Jewish as it gets.

I'm sorry, I figured you wouldn't want to clutter up your page with a religious discussion; I'll email you the pertinent points from work later today, but right now I have to get ready to leave or be late! *hugs* Promise, I'll explain later.

Acts 10.11-10.15:
'And he saw the heavens opening, and a vessel coming down, like a great cloth let down on the earth,
In which were all sorts of beasts and birds.
And a voice came to him, saying, Come, Peter; take them for food.
But Peter said, No, Lord; for I have never taken food which is common or unclean.
And the voice came to him a second time, What God has made clean, do not you make common.'

Chances are, if God revealed this stuff to Peter shortly after the crucifixion, Jesus probably knew already.

But that is all irrelevant since Jesus is universally acknowledged as the founder of his own sect. He can eat whatever he deems fit. And he even said:
What goes into a man's mouth does not make him 'unclean,' but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him 'unclean.'"
Matthew 15:11

Sithspit In reply to Moral-Man [2010-11-11 01:25:04 +0000 UTC]

Believe what you will, but He didn't form His own sect; He had to follow ALL Jewish law in order to be acceptable to the Sanhedrin, or else the prophecy wherein "and they found no fault in Him" would not have been fulfilled. As to the vision, the purpose wasn't to announce that all animals were clean to eat, but to function as a metaphor because the Jewish church at the time, the early Christians, were saying goyim, gentiles, could not be Christians, and yet God clearly called Cornelius, a gentile Roman.

Lastly, again, the scripture in Matthew was a metaphor in which Jesus was attempting to explain that the point is what is in a man's heart makes him good or bad, not what he eats; even so, He kept all of the laws, as He must, or else the Pharisees would've had reason to have him stoned as a heretic.

Moral-Man In reply to Sithspit [2010-11-11 23:04:39 +0000 UTC]

The Jews couldn't have gotten him killed, let alone stoned, for eating pork. He was killed because they made him out to be a revolutionist to the romans (which was in fact exactly what he was).

In any case, what makes you can't just choose and pick what you consider a metaphor or not. Well, you can, but it doesn't change the fact that Jesus loves his pork.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sithspit In reply to Moral-Man [2010-11-11 23:27:40 +0000 UTC]

Yes, they did get Him killed for that, because He FOLLOWED ALL THEIR LAWS and didn't give them an opportunity to. Whatever. You're so far off base we're not even in the same game; do your research via historical and cultural references as well as reputable theological texts and then we'll talk.

Seems like someone is having a not-so-humble day. Well, sorry for causing you to waste so much of your wisdom on me. Clearly I'm not worthy of your words.

Oh, I just remembered, Jesus healed a cripple on a Sabbath, directly breaking one of the ten commandments in the eyes of the rabbis. That quite significantly out weighs eating pork.

and btw, I think you might want to read Leviticus again, since the prescribed punishment for eating pork is not death.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sithspit In reply to Moral-Man [2010-11-12 07:37:19 +0000 UTC]

Again, you're showing a lack of knowledge of Jewish culture. First, healing someone does not break a commandment by any stretch of the imagination, and Jewish law allows for unselfish acts on the Sabbath in aid of another person, as NOT helping is considered more serious an infraction, and as such is justified.
