Description
Doctor Octopus from the movie “Spider-Man 2”.
Finally it is done after struggling for 2 weeks and half!
It’s painted for self-promotional only. First time using mixed media of acrylic and watercolor, on illustration board primed with gesso.
Lots of things have changed comparing with the preliminary sketches, but still using the same concept: representing a new image of Doctor Octopus – his powerful mechanical appendages, and his dark characteristics because of turbulent upbringing. I didn’t watch the movie, but these are the impressions of Doctor Octopus to me.
Hope you love “him”, ha!

For a painting this is amazing. Great expression on the face, and those machanic tentacules are perfect, but I had the impression there was 6 of them, no? Anyway, you did great with light reflection on the shoulders and colors are perfect.
PS: Can't wait for Spider-man 3!

Aww.. thanks for your compliments!
"Oh my god!" I was shocked when u said there were 6 tentacules. I thought the poster art (which i referred when painting) was a total cheat! So i go to Google, seek for "Spider-Man 2" movie trailer, logged on to the website, and run the movie trailer.... Phew~ 4 tentacules, there were.
Oh yes! I can't wait for the "Spider-Man 3" too! Surprisingly the foe in this coming series will be "sandman"; i thought Spiderman will fight with Venom in this series instead, LoL.. what a misleading teaser poster art!

WAAAH!!! AMAZING. o_Oll Did you use a real picture as reference?
Thats so cool lol, i think you suit more to be an illustration student now. xD
You really like Spiderman series huh. xD

Aww.. i was so surprised when seeing you commented my work, ha!
Yep, i did using reference for the figure. Sakit hati neh~ the reference was the "Spider-Man 2" poster art i got from TOA when joining their seminar - it's limited edition! But i accidentally dropped my acrylic paint on it! Spoilt!
Ah, i'm not sure if i'm a great fans of "Spider-Man". I was just attracted by the interesting textures on the costume of the characters from "Spider-Man". Really enjoy when dealing with those maddening textures! I love to torture myself, hahaxx!

I havin problem in my college aah~ my art skills all built from cartoon and manga, but my lecturer doesn't like those kind of style... ;___; and ask me to modify it....... Malaysia style sucks laaaaa~~~~

keke^^ yea... i also have no time to update and reply msg in DA since my school start. Hectic school days.. but FUN, muahaha!
huu.. i love illustration, but you know what's the problem that stopped me from taking illustration course. now i just treat it as my hobby (and also my little dream); spending my time with illustration during holiday, kakaka! XD i think i could find another paradise somewhere that i belong to one day, hmm.. just wait and see. I start loving doing design, playing around with concepts and graphics.
aww.. whether malaysia style is suck or not, that just the matter of personal preference, keke^^ your lecturer asking you to draw something that more "malaysiana", doesn't he? i also don't like that stuff but i have to do it even tho i don't really like it- my current final project is doing something about Malaysia too, damn! XD we have no choice on what we want to do, but we have the choices to how we want to do it; whether to do it for the sake of completing a task, or to do it the best (to respect our own profession).
or your lecturer asking you to do something more realistic? (then that's nothing to do with malaysia style lolz) if so, hmm.. i think, why not try to give yourself a chance to explore your possibility, explore how far you can go? furthermore, not sure if you did notice about that: cartoon and manga is actually exaggerated versions of reality world. i think it will help you, especially in doing character design, once you understand the formula to do realistic work - just exaggerate or minimize certain features of the subject's features.
i'm glad you will think of me when having problem, ha! gambatte la!

Hahahaha!! I kinda smiled after i read your message.
thankyuu!!
I am kinda embarass because..... if you say everyone have his limit, i can say what am i achieving now, is FAR from my limit, i could try harder to do something new, something greater, but just..... (is more than lazy lol)
You know Cacing right? You and his desire for art kinda amazed me sometimes. You guys are crazy~!
And some others amazing deviants in this site, i'm sure all of them have strong interest and desire in arts.
Well....one of my school lecturer said Malaysia is more to realistic style.... (so traditional and kolot nee...realistic is only about skill. =w= I know skill is improtant, but strong message, stylish art is far greater isn't it?)
My lecturer is actually very kind to me already de la... He allow me to use those kawaii, manga-like style, but he need me to modify more, until i can really claim the style my own. Just having hard time to break thru the wall, since that "wall"(cartoonized) was built up since i start drawing as a little kid, until now. orz
And you are very right about learning realistic style... "Learn it before exaggerating any style of yours", lol. xD I think my art skill improved becoz our lecs force us to draw realistic, hahaha!!! I should keep it up.
Sorry to waste your time, blabling all this~ Hahaha!! You are always a wise friend of mine. Apa masalah menyusahkan awak ajer mah. xDDD hahaha!!!!

Keke^^ No prob.
Yep, he who thinking about his limit will just making an obstacle for himself, stopping himself from stepping forward. As what a chinese idiom goes, "Failed before start battling" I'd say, instead of thinking our limit, we rather to consider about our abilities - what we are good at and what we are weak at; that's what make us found the true side of ourself.
Good effort on going beyond your limits!
As one saying goes, again, "It’s not how good you are; it’s how good you want to be".
Yep, stylish art with strong message may seem more important. As for me, skill is like a backup, or even the foundation, to help you convey your message through your work better. Frankly speaking, just like what i observed from what happening in my college - some people have good concept at the first stage of designing a work, but they end up with wasting their efforts in doing concept with their not-so-mature skills. What a pity then. Huu...
Last but not least, thanks for seeing me as a wise friend, hahahaxx!!
Ps: Ops! It's almost the time for me to go for class!
