Just curious, what medium are you using? Watercolors?

It is actually a mixed media: acrylic and watercolor.
Seeing your gallery, i think you're a great fans of Doc Ock, ha! The final artwork for this WIP has already submitted [link] . Feel free to have a look.

Ouch.. the background (scene) is actually painted from my imagination; i dun really hv the reference on that view. Too bad..

oh wow cool i admire you for the imagination thing - something im finding hard to do at the moment..
i think the background looks real enough, and nicely subtle, so as not to draw attention from the doc i really like the detail in the main claw, too

keke^^ Thanks for your admiration! I used to draw by referring reference photo too before (but can't draw that real as you do
) . But then i found that i love to do sth looks more "original"; that's why i always add some my own ideas in my works recently. I love to try and challenge myself!

do you get frustrated at all? or does it just come sort of naturally?
i love challenging myself too! it's just finding motivation..

oh yes, of course! i always get frustrated! Especially for a work which based on imagination, it is hard to get a realistic result. I always have to try to find reference pictures, and draw out the shapes and structures of the imagined object, and then add lighting, colors.. i hv to relate the art and design theories i learnt at the meanwhile to get the best result. Everything must be planned well before start working on the final work. These are tough and time-consuming processes. Another frustrating thing is when working on final work, details are really maddening. However, we cannot skip all these processes if we want to create the best work. Just accept the frustration.
Yep, challenging yourself is good - it helps you to improve yourself, makes you a better person.
