Description
Wow, finally a clay tutorial! The first thing that was on my to-do list that I've actually completed. @__@ I know you guys have been asking for a tutorial for a while, so now you may know the secrets to how I make clay figurines, haha. Why a llama? Well when I made my ones I realised that they were quite simple to make, and since a few of you guys (my watchers) had asked for a tutorial, I figured that a llama was a good way to go, easy and very deviantart-y.
Why foil? It makes your figurine lighter, faster to bake and you use less clay.
Clarification: To soften clay you can work it with your fingers, like massage it etc.
Remember, the tutorial goes from left to right, not down. n_n;
I hope you guys find this useful! It really could be used to any animal. This is the technique I use for ALL of my clay creations, so yeah, just adapt it to your needs.
Other Tutorials (including how to make a cape for your llama):
Here are some of my deviations showing them completed!
Can't wait to see your llamas! Please show me what you do! If you do give me a link, I'll post it here so others can admire your llamas too!

Thanks for suggesting and for featuring! @__@

Nice work but... *sigh* another llama tutorial daily deviation? I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a good tutorial from a good artist and I'm happy for you, it's just that it's getting rather monotonous, this whole 'let's give any llama related thing we see a DD!' thing that the admins have going on. I just think that daily deviations should be chosen for their own merit rather than because of a stupid fad. It's a well done tutorial and deserves attention but it should be given attention for that reason, not just because it features llamas.

I just saw your comment and thought to reply to you as well. This is the first llama tutorial i have given a DD (and i just can remember one other llama tutorial DD). There might have been other llama related DDs by me, but then again it always have been suggested by the community. The reason for it is simply the hype. Fella has always been there. Llamas got a new kind of attention since the badges. If i would have featured every llama related artwork that was suggested then i would have really flooded dA with llama DDs.
Even though fella is the mascot it will be more used for serious stuff and llamas are often used for fun things. Maybe it's more enjoyable for such things.
And this was suggested by the GM of Artisan Crafts to me. So it was featured for its tutorial content, but featured by me because it is dA related because of the llama (and i am GM for such things). Talking of that i am limited to things related to dA and the most famous ones from that area are fella and llama.
Hope this helps to understand the reasons behind.
However you can always send me suggestions of fella-related artworks if you come across something, that seems to be good for a DD I'm all open for varied suggestion, but alone i don't see all hidden gems

There was a llama papercraft thing, I think that was Fantasystock though... And a sewing llama plush tut (I cant remember very well if that got a DD though ). Might be why crablock, and more recently secrets-of-paranoia said what they said.

Thanks! I can't say I have a different opinion from you... XD I've seen my fair share of llama related DDs too.. >_< but then again, I can't say I'm disappointed that MY llama related deviation got a DD.
but I believe it may be because admins are told to promote DA related art? I'm not sure.

I am the only GM whos job is to promote dA related stuff/art, as i am responsible for those galleries. All other GMs don't have to focus on it

That's what I was just thinking, you'd think that they'd pay more attention to fella... fella deviations hardly ever get any attention. Oh, I know, maybe this is all part of a conspiracy to change the mascot!

Congrats on your DD
I have to say, that on the pic it looks more like a FOX befor baking, after painting and edding a cape etc. it is deffenetly a Da LLama but befor,. I guess you can make any animal this ways.
its cool to see a tutorial for this.
and Congrats again.

Thank you!
And I agree, haha. It really doesn't look much like a llama prepaint, but after painting it it looks good. I use this method for pretty much any animal, so it's very versatile.

Umm, I'm sorry you feel that way! If you feel that way you can talk to the GM who featured this.
And think of it this way, it's an easy to follow tutorial on a subject that all deviants should be able to relate to. The completed object is cute and simple and everyone should be able to do it, and not only that it shows a method of sculpting that many not have tried before.
