History:

Neptune is another cruiser designed after Dominion war as part of Starfleet rebuild program. Its primary purpose is to be exploration ship but was capable to defend itself if needed. It has strong weaponary thanx to Type XII phaser arrays and Quantum torpedoes. Even with this weapons, its combat capabilities were decent comparing to more combat oriented ships. Neputne have large amount of exploration equipment, laboratories, storages and large hydroponic gardens, which allows it to go beyond borders of Federation.

One of other purposes of this ship is also to carry dignitaries from forgein worlds as well ambassadors from Federation worlds. Neptune was one of classes that didn't participate in Odonan war, mostly because non of the ships in the class was deployed near the Odonan border. However it did seen few smaller skirmishes against less important factions.

Neptune as said was another design created with purpose to fill the massive gap left by Dominion war, althought modern and well armed and protected it was not ship of the line.
