Here is my concept for Windows 8 startmenuits reduced to the basic functions that I USE
call it a mini startmenu. It will save space on tablets and small screen devices and still allow its main funtions.
The last bit is my idea for a search system where you select ur search engine and if for example you select google. Then the text and button will turn green and a google logo will appear when you type www before ur search word. And in doing so when you will press enter. IE will be opened with that search page.

the click time is very strange.
maybe you should add tabs on top, and save space in the search mode.

Oh, yes, about the shutdown buttons, I guess you can add a little link in the normal menu called: Functions>, or System> and clicking that will fade to the second menu with shutdown, logoff etc. Just my 2 cents.

Looks really cool. I really like the concept. I think, that for search, the search links could appear instantaneously. Like Google Instant. Unless, of course, there's no internet connection. (No Connection Found) Also, way more customization would be nice. There was a windows 8 concept by another deviantArtist, and I really like that one. Because his had a little panel at the bottom left for start btn, and little panel at the right for notifications. Open windows would be floating between them. I love that because the only reason I use the start menu is to start apps. Like I press Windows Key and type my app, then enter. I don't like using mouse. ;D
