Description
Youtube video : [link]Note that this tutorial expects you to have atleast basic knowledge of the program
Also note that I do use a tablet, the same look won't be achieved with a mouse
Oh another good reason to have a big canvas is it's easier to fill in your base colors afterwards, you can just paint bucket it =7=
I had a few people ask how I lineart and well..I'm not really sure how to explain/teach it besides telling you my settings and I guess my canvas size and what not to do hahaha. So here's how I basically lineart, not how you should lineart but how I lineart..ahaha
Hope whoever finds it useful, feel free to ask questions because this is full of holes and mistakes somewhere I'm sure :'D

I have them on the same layer but if you feel you need them on seperate layers then you can do that!

When you edit your brush it saves the settings on it already 8'D! If you want to make a whole new tool for it you can click an empty square and turn it into a saved brush setting!

Thank you so much for you tutorialπ. But right now im confused about the thick and thin line, my lineart seems very thin and doesn't look like lineart T_T. There's once I asked my friend about how I do lineart with tablet but he said that I was wrong lineart should be using the line work layer with curve tool but I don't like using that but when I use tablet the lineart is weird and when I do the coloring with bucket it will leak to the background. What shouls I do T_T

zearyu In reply to Kazutokun [2015-06-22 18:42:32 +0000 UTC]
If your lineart is too thin you can try increasing the size of the brush! If it doesn't go thick to thin just practice as it's the same as creating the same thing with a paintbrush, the program can't do all the work : ). For paint bucket to work there has to be NO gaps in your lineart and/or pretty clean lineart. If it's not clean and there are gaps the paint bucket won't work very well.

I feel like Im doing something wrong every time I try to do this (line art). I love how smooth the strokes look with the way they start sharp, go into the line, then fade out. My start and stop, the look really chunky and blocky. Id really appreciate some help from anyone if they could help me get my strokes to look like the examples! Is there specific settings for pressure, for the tablet, or for anything else? Id really appreciate! Thanks!

Are you using SAI or photoshop? I find my lines turn out very wiggly in photoshop most of the time because my hand isn't actually that steady. If you are using sai and still don't get smooth lines you may just need more practice! As just like a paintbrush you still need to make a stroke for it stroke nicely because it won't make a smooth stroke for you if that makes sense!

Thanks so much! I felt like I was cheating when using the line tool. and I sucked at using my pen for the line. This helped me understand what I was doing wrong, and after a bit of practice, it gotΒ a lot easier! It alsoΒ takes less time than the line tool. Β Β Β

Using a tool is never cheating, it's just using them for what they were made for really 8D

Shiroen [2014-04-30 21:06:34 +0000 UTC]
ok I got this- but a question that really confusing me
I've watched a bunch of youtube tutorials and most of them use pen tool or brush (size .7, 1 being most common) and their line art is so visible! Like, it's a deep black and size is 1 but you can actually see it! When I try, It's like thin string, impossible to see. And yes, the opacity is 100, so im not sure if its the other settings. What size do you normally use? I really want my lineart to be size 1 and since it's the most preferred. But it's too hard for me atleast. Any advice?

zearyu In reply to Shiroen [2014-04-30 23:05:20 +0000 UTC]
I use like..size 14 to line--LOL I work on a 5100x3300 pixel canvas usually so all my stuff gets resized which makes the lineart look thinner also! I don't know how others do it but that's how I do mine :'D my lineart is actually quite see-through on full size but once resized it looks solid! So I recommend just working on super large canvases and just resizing later xD!

For some reason my sai program won't do the 'smooth' lines yours do, how it tapers into the stroke then tapers out. It's just one solid line. Do you know why that is? I've done all the settings as you have it but...
Thanks for this too btw as people's lineart looks amazing and I just can't do it.

If it's not going bigger and smaller as you press down it could be your driver's not installed correctly or your computer/program is not detecting your tablet :'D!

In SAI the stabilizer located at the very top can help alot to smooth out your lines, past that is just practice like with painting in real life to get smooth brush strokes!

The cheapest tablet I know of is called the monoprice tablet! There's no other cheaper quality tablet I believe :'D You can google it and the site itself and amazon should have it, I don't believe it's in stores and available only online!

Ah, thank you!Β
I searched it and the quantity was in dollars, so I converted it into Philippine pesos, and it was pretty cheap! Β
I don't have my own money, other than that I'm still dependent towards my parents (yes, I'm THAT young), but I believe they told me that they have enough money for those prices
