Description i made this for my pleasure, to windows 8 version 8250 consumers preview.

hex editing (hex editor) + resourse hacker
a quiq osx style approach selecting folders via code [re] made to explorerframe.dll (i had to re writte some parts of the code).

this theme is unfinished, and not have any plants about it, since necessities of real life.

shell32.dll can not be modified as if we do, system restore to a previous restore point.

the good points of win 8 are that they have been made to be used to many machines/proccessors and versions, better security etc the bad are, not ease modification, no start menu [like the old we know], upper ribbon consisted area to the upper part of the window always appearing with no ability to compete hide it [only we can become it smaller], as also opened always status bar to the bottom of the window with no ability to hide it.
==============

upper light blue area consists ribbon and ribbon's color appearance consist a rape to our senses.

some of those people in microsoft have not any criteria or measurement of aesthetics !

at least they had to make an extra button to explorer top left area for totaly hidding/appearing the upper light blue area consists the ribbon's looking shame.

from 2006 microsoft advertises the transparency looking of their os , now the only big surface remained transparent is the part of titlebar !!!
==============

without a program is difficult for themming . so a theme need a lot of time to be made (and i haven't) , so i made some parts of the explorer only (even those not totaly finished), no taskbar code or start menu images or code.

--------------------

if Panda x make his new application in future and if i find time i could make another approach, though not sure .

Still active? Could you help me in hex editing NORMAL.RES from WIN8 RTM aero theme? I beg you, I just want to activate the glow behind the text in window title. Already added the glow image using WindowsStyleBuilder 1.5.4.6 BETA but I need to hex edit the res to enable it. Thank you.

Oh how this picture made me imagine all the future custom visual styles for Windows 8. I really miss using my Shine 2.0 back on Windows 7. Thanks for the picture.

This is the start of visual style modding in Windows 8 even if it's painfully slow.

first we have to find 2 more things:
where exist= the location of the light blue images of the ribbon, as also the mouse over button images of ribbon (they are not inside the mstyle)
how can we bypass the problem that if we modify shell32.dll or explorer.exe the system reacts and restore in a previews restore point after restart (or sometimes crashed).

possible not ever found those, so not a serious art modification could be made.

ZEUSosX In reply to nicopizza [2012-05-03 23:19:25 +0000 UTC]

you can not modify shell32.dll in win 8 consumers preview sice now ,as shell32.dll has a digital signature which is dissapeared if you modify the file, so when restart, the system reject the new shell32.dll and automatically restore to the first previews restore point.

please can I have windows 8 classmaps please?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ZEUSosX In reply to M-Awesome [2012-05-03 23:24:27 +0000 UTC]

there are no windows 8 classmaps which they specific give the position of each image as in win 7, since now, from what i know.
i use my personal method for finding and changing hex values in the mstyle, but it is slow, painfull and some things that would be very ease with wsb, as for example different font categories, now it can be only in a limit way.

Reply this question if you can:

Do you know where the default charmbar icons are located in windows 8? For example the icons are located in imageres.dll and logon stuff was located in authui.dll.

Its for my Windows 8 for vista projects, and i can't seem to find it.

thank you very much for your comment, but from those we know since today there things that are hard coded, so cant changed, so even if i design or change the code parameters there are areas that can not modified, as the light blue top area, or the bottom status bar which can not be hidden or change its color or image [if could be].
shell32.dll also cant be changed as the system restore the older version, so all these are a very big disapointment, remembers me the vista time, in new version.
also my time and life 's coditions are not those enable doing many things now.

thank you.

Did you install win8 on virtualbox or dual-boot?

what i do, i extract files from windows 8 with 7 zip (i installed on virtualbox with vhd file) and extract files and look through them. So if i get things wrong, i may as well just restore.

yes, it is hard. thank you for your comment and presence.

also many things are hard coded and possible cant changed, so the 'new' system will look as you see it.
some parts are awfull designed, and the access is made more for a phone user and not for pc user. pc user = using the mouse, because have more access to small elements like the small buttons of a program [like photoshop etc] and when you have not start panel for finding ease the defragment tool, or the control pane etc [because you have to organise them yourself = you loose time for something that already was ready to previous win versions]

I don't need a start panel. I have the new metro start menu and this is so easy. i typed defrag and immediately it is shown to me.

What are you talking about that you can not hide the Ribbon in the explorer. Of course you can. All people who have to have a bad outlook have to bring up false excuses for Windows 8. You can hide the Ribbon by clicking on the arrow when you open Explorer and the arrow is right below the Close icon to the top right. Right below it.

And you can hide the status bar by click on "Computer" and then clicking on the View Tab on the Ribbon then click "Refresh the contents of this location"

It is horrible that people like you make these prejudgments on Windows 8 when you haven't really experimented with it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

M-Awesome In reply to flippinwindows [2012-04-06 08:59:01 +0000 UTC]

Mine was hidden by default.

ZEUSosX In reply to flippinwindows [2012-03-31 07:38:27 +0000 UTC]

first of all you have to be more polite and more wise.
second , my reffer is based to the all strategy of microsoft that make the explorer's area like office 's. all this light blue area that on it, based the light blue ribbon, and i mean not only the ribbon's area but the top (quiq acces's) toolbar, as also the rebar's area which by default are hardcoded [if impossible to change them]
with the (very ungly [also]) button that you reffer you just make all this blue area smaller, nothing more. if you work to pc many hours with this color to your explorer your eyes will have problems, as mine have, and as many in many forums complained. and the problem is that it is hardcoded, means [difficult or impossible] to change it. also about the right button, we are in 2012, this right button's design is ... so imagine you will pay for a new windows version and having this thing at your explorer's. (the only well button is that of the left top side of titlebar)

see what i mean and you have to be more carefull when you critisize people that not only have worked with this ungly peace but experimented analysed for many hours of its 'new' enviroment and design/dress it. [link]

the idea is wrong but microsoft is a big company, they did it on vista , they do it again.
and the design who support the idea is that you see.
after some hours work the eyes , at least mines, cant work more.

I'm criticizing you still because the excuses are not founded on real problems in life. Also if you are trying to spell in english, it would be wise that you get it corrected in Microsoft Word in the spelling and grammar to fix it up. Or using Google translate.

Check this video I made on Windows 8 UI Ribbon. I ultimately don't care, but I made the video for those that have to make up some excuse to hate it and have the need to get rid of the explorer UI.

[link]

I'm so into Windows 8 and I can't be compelled to dislike Windows 8 on excuses that are not worth complaining about.

ZEUSosX In reply to flippinwindows [2012-04-03 11:03:50 +0000 UTC]

thank you Joshua for your comment, time and video.
but you may misunderstand my position:

there are 2 things that i refer :
first i refer to the appearance color [image ] of the hole light blue area that consists ribbon (including the quick access toollbar and the rebar). the color is good for some minutes but for many hours work my opinion is that is not.

second one is that i refer that i am against that office ribbon is used in windows, but not because of its usability, but because it takes a lot of the are of explorer [as also status bar which also directed if am right from ribbon's code in UIribbons.dll]
we can minimize the ribbon [not just with the right button you refer in your text and the video] but also we can minimize it to the titlebar, but never we can minimize the quick access toolbar that exists to the ribbons area / code with an extra button near that of the top left one that i just refer.

with few words the problem is not the ribbon. the problem is that we can not complete minimize, and the second is that the chosen appearance of it is not to me like. but if we could have the ability like on xp on past to appear it disappear it [with no registry values> restart of pc etc] that would be best.

so when i critisize i do it in real fact mode and i will repeat that is shame in 2012 micro soft not giving the abilities that in xp existed.

its not a complain that does not refer to a real fact.
(as also the hardcoded problem for anyone wanted customize his system as he/she wants )

no about my english you can say whatever you want, as they are bad but i think most people here understood my positions/reffers, as also my answer to you is not in the way you answer.
but i know to say thank you when someone offers me.

and you have to see from your first comment that to my preview picture the ribbon was already minimized so there was not need to write about the right part minimized button, and the minimized of the ribbon. because i was not refer to this as anyone see in the picture preview.

have a good time.

i dont know what will happen with windows style builder, if ever made for working with win 8 styles i can give you an aero theme based on it.
(the programm is property of others and i never share/give other's property).

what i do is using resourse hacker and a hex editor for changing the originall microsoft style.

its not ready. even to explorer area needed a lot of work, with windows style builder this needed 2 hours work for changing code parameters, via hex editing needed many hours a day, and months and always having the risk to add some wrong values.

also this kind of work has not enough care, i have also made some new folders for imageneres.dll though not as my past works, my eyes dont help me more and i am easy tired after researching hex code numbers.

if i will make [only] explorer's better [without start pane, taskbar etc ] and correct some parameters in code if i have time, i could release a beta version.

Thank you for your interest.
