Life was normal for Robbie Reyes as he tried to provide a good life for him and his brother, Gabe, after their parents died in a car accident. Job hunting was tough for Robbie as he had to drop out of high school to provide a life for him and his brother so they wouldn't be separated by child services. Robbie got mixed up with the Fifth Street Locos and became a drug runner for them with his muscle car. Things seemed good as Robbie got much money from his illegal activities, but things got complicated when one of the Locos, Ernesto, was found to be stealing money, so Robbie was forced to go with Jorge, brother to the Locos leader, and kill Ernesto and bury him on the outskirts of LA. When Ernesto found out what was happening, he pleaded for his life and said that he did it to help his sick mother. Jorge didn't care and told Robbie to shoot Ernesto, Robbie struggled to do it and Jorge pulled his own gun out and shot Ernesto and pointed his gun at Robbie for failing to do this job and was ready to kill him when Robbie managed to shoot and kill Jorge first. Robbie panicked and rushed home to get himself and Gabe out of town before the Locos found out what he did. In the dark of early morning Robbie and Gabe were on their way out of town before the Locos found the brothers and a car chase started with the Loco's shooting Robbie's car. Gabe took a shot to his lower back and Robbie took some a fatal shot to his chest and their car flipped over and Robbie was launched from the car and was dying on the streets with no one around. A person came along on a motorcycle and despite spitting up blood, Robbie pleaded with the person to save his brother. Robbie finally saw the person and it was a man with a flaming skull. He was heavily damaged and his skull looked on the verge of breaking and his flames flickering on and off. The skull spoke and asked if Robbie wanted vengeance on the ones that did this to him. Robbie refused and just wanted his brother to be saved. The skull said that he can give Robbie the power to do that but he would need to live and to do that he would need to become a spirit of vengeance. Robbie was fading fast and had no choice but to accept. He said yes and the skull figure poured his demonic power into Robbie turning the dying teen into a flaming skull figure like himself. The skull figure that gave him the power turned into a heavily injured corpse and Robbie didn't have time to question who this was as he had to save Gabe, so with unnatural strength, Robbie flipped over his car and made sure Gabe was still alive before roaring off to the nearest hospital with a flaming, hellish looking car. The emergency room was in terror as a flaming skull figure came in and set an injured youth down. Robbie left quickly and returned to the scene of the accident as witnessed some members of the "Dark Avengers" come in and take away the body and motorcycle still in the streets.

Days later, Robbie visited Gabe in the hospital and found his younger brother has lost the use of his legs with the bullet that struck him. Robbie brought all the money he had to Gabe as he would have to leave his brother with this demonic development and also the superhumans that might come after him. Gabe would stay with his friend and the money would be used to support himself. Robbie was forced to leave his brother as some of the Dark Avengers, Iron Patriot and Eagle Eye, came to retrieve Robbie. They confront the teen and open fire, launching him out a window and down 5 stories. When the heroes come down to see his body, they find Robbie has become his flaming skull self and fights the two. Their fight is at a standstill until Robbie summons his car and flees. With hellish speed, Robbie takes off and then summons a portal to hell to escape. Weeks later, Robbie looked into the man that gave him this dark gift and found that it was a biker known as Johnny Blaze and he belonged to the Ghost Riders motorcycle club. With this new info, Robbie gets a flashback of Johnny's life as he sees Johnny's dad is sick and a devil known as Mephistopheles made a deal with Johnny to become his rider and Johnny's dad would be saved. Johnny accepted and his dad was saved, but tragedy would strike as Johnny's dad would later die and Johnny would be turned into the Devil's Rider. Eventually Johnny would rebel and fight against Mephistopheles and any demons he sent after him. the last memory of Johnny's that Robbie witnessed was the Dark Avengers attacking him and almost killing him, he would escape and eventually find Robbie. Robbie knows that the Dark Avengers will come after him, so he needs help. Using his powers to find allies, Robbie eventually comes across a group of young heroes made up of Ms. Marvel, Miles Morales, Iron Heart, Squirrel Girl, Visionary, Scarlet Wiccan, and Hulkling. They would need help from Robbie and he would need from them.
