I just left a comment on someone else's page telling them how much fun my monster1 will have creating emotes and other creative arts such as this. He's only 6 years old, but he's a very intelligent boy and incredibly detailed for his age. ADHD is also in our lives and I hope he can use these things to learn to teach himself how to focuss and apply himself. If he does create anything using your scripts as reference, I will link you. Who knows? /end life story lol.
Thanks again! Dae and Monster1.

It's a real pain in the rear to start, but once you have a patch it's pretty easy

I've always wanted to see what dragonscale is like to make- and thanks to you I've been able to try. Chainmaille tutorials can often be confusing- but this one is crystal clear.
It's a nice weave- though I'm using different sizes of wire. I've got nothing the right diameter for rings of the same wire thickness. Seems to work well enough.

where can you get the material to make dragon scale ?? because it would be cool to have a chain mail suit custom made ^.^

Very nice! Wonderfully illustrated and easy to understand, I've been wondering how to choose the correct ring sizes. Great job!

Wow! This is very cool. I've been working with chain mail for a few years now making everything from dice bags to a full out shirt, but have never attempted this weave. Very nice tutorial.

Thanks! I hope you give dragonscale a shot, it's a fun weave and really not much harder than 4-1 or 6-1 once you get the hang of it

I'm 41. But there are a lot of younger people. I suppose by my age most have lost touch with the dream. I'm just childish I guess.

Starting with a single piece of long wire (I tend to use welding wire or fencing wire) you wrap it around a metal rod to form a tight coil, or spring. Once you have that you can cut rings from it.
There are a few techniques for getting the wire coiled around the rod. The one I use is I drill a hole perpendicularly through the rod about 1.5-2 inches from one end, then stick that end of the rod into a variable speed electric hand drill so that the hole is just outside of the drill. Then I thread the wire through that hole in the rod and slowly power up the drill, using one (gloved!) hand to guide the wire along and press it firmly against the rod as it turns.

It's instructions for creating a pattern of rings in real life, such as that used in my chainmaille vest

It's for reality. A guide for crafting real chainmail using real metal. The dragonscale style is but one of the many methods of mail creation, and this was desined for armorers or jewlers who wish to learn it.

I hope you do! Chainmaille's a great hobby, and can even be used to make jewelry. If you're having problems with a weave you can find more tutorials here: [link]

where do you get the rings from? earlier you said about silver and aluminum and such, but do you buy the metal in rings or do you buy it in strands and turn the strands into rings yourself?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
zikes In reply to CommanderCarpool [2006-10-08 12:03:22 +0000 UTC]
I buy the wire by the spool, and then make them into rings. The methods for doing that varies from person to person, but all it takes is wrapping the wire around a rod to make a coil, or spring, and then cutting the rings from that.
Personally I use a steel rod with a hole drilled perpendicularly through it about 2 inches from the end. I put that end of the rod into a variable speed hand drill, thread one end of the wire through the hole, and then slowly power the drill up while guiding the wire along the rod with my other (gloved!) hand. Then just snip the wire at the hole and slide the coil off
