This is an *excellent* tutorial. Please send :devdedredhead: a note about it. She is the gallery director for Artisan Crafts and is trying to create a tutorials resource for us.

Very cool. With d-scale being a "rare breed" because of it appearing to be hard, I'm always looking for things others do in the weave. Here's some of what I've done.

I wasn't looking for chainmail tutorials when I stumbled on this, but I'm quite glad I did--I'd been wondering for a long time about how in the world to do a dragonscale weave but hadn't had the time to look into it. Thanks very much for doing the legwork for me!

Thanks!
I've talked with ~Droakir and we may just collaborate on a few more of these, hopefully we'll be able to show people just how easy the whole thing really is

Wow! That looks simply awesome! Thanks, Zikes, for clearing that up. Kudos on the generation of those 3D images. They certainly beat out the concept of the photographed maille projects. And now I can do dragonscale! Reminds me quite a bit of a modified European 4 in 1. The concept of Persian comes to mind, but not quite. Once again, great job!

And I'm glad it was of help to you! I was a bit worried that my worded instructions weren't too clear, but I think the images mostly speak for themselves

zikes In reply to Droakir [2004-11-11 05:40:49 +0000 UTC]
Actually it really is nothing more than two layers of Euro 4 in 1. if you were to separate the two layers you would see 4 in 1 with alternating rows of large and small rings.

Droakir In reply to zikes [2004-11-11 06:00:59 +0000 UTC]
That's why it looked so familiar! So it seems to offer some of the flexibility of the 4 in 1, but the full-bodied protection of the 6 in 1. Not a bad pattern.

SeverinR In reply to Droakir [2011-03-25 13:58:55 +0000 UTC]
actually,
My dragonscale is better then 6in1(now my second favorite weave)
I used dark green big rings and brass rings(gold color) and looks really good...but I don't have enough green to make anything.
Also made red and brass, and again not enough to make anything.

yeah and you get that awesome scale effect, too!
truly it is the pinnacle of maille

Ah, lol, I don't even know anymore, I'm pretty out of practice. I'd have to say off the top of my head, probably about a dozen, maybe more if I strained it a bit. I'm afraid I haven't done much maille in the past couple years, though.
