Description
Face study-Steve ParkhurstPencil on Strathmore 500 cold press illustration board
22β x 22β
Once in a while the best laid plans go off track. The background the very thing that inspired this drawing took over -it slowly overshadowed the portrait. There is enough power in this face, a contemplative man in his middle age, just like myself. Thanks Steve for sitting for this and for having the interesting features to give drama to this study. I worked about 30 hours on the background which was on the left but after making the hard decision to cut it off, it made sense.
Thank you all for you questions and comments

Wow, this is just so impressing... you have created such a great depth with this drawing, the eyes are so breathtaking, it's like the man is just looking at the viewer. I really adore how you are drawing the skin, on the one hand it is nearly overwhelmed with details, on the other hand it has the perfect values of shadows and lights. Thank you for this truly inspiring piece of artwork

Finally You've done it, I was constantly waiting forward to put it in favourtites because I don't like to fave any WIP's. Great techniques used on this drawing as well as on all the other works You have done, but the expression and something else I can't describe is much more important than the techniques! Maybe It is a kind of spirit that You have given to the drawing through Your pencils. I'm thinking about drawing a portrait too, but I haven't decided yet who I will draw. Best wishes and keep up the unbeliveable work

This one speaks! Makes me want to meet this guy and hear his stories! Maybe he's boring and has nothing to tell, but that's not at all what your drawing is saying!

to say that it looks like a photograph is kinda of insulting, with a drawing you capture so much more, this is insanely well detailed and the expression of his eyes is just amazing

Yes...the character of his face really makes the drawing.
And, of course, it is very well drawn!
Another sterling piece of work you have here!

An impressive and marvelous Work. (Sorry but I'm not good at English, so I translate only the end of my comment)

well the "background" now is what you see, it was going to be like "the Waking Edge" [link] but it would of taken away from this guys face IMO
