Description Here's four of the design sheets I did for Sideshow, to help the sculpting process along. Just sketches from my sketchbook, nothing fancy.

The first one, in the upper left, was done at the Sideshow offices/studios, during a brainstorming session for a bumch of ideas. I produced the rest over the next few months as sculptor Tim Miller went about making three-dimensional fabulosity appear.

I like the doodle of the size comparison between Jennifer Walters and her alter-ego, done mainly to show Tim what I was thinking of when I designed She-Hulks torn street clothes. I think some people draw the Hulk or She-Hulk in torn clothes that look like there's enough fabric to actually cover them, if the outfit wasn't in tatters. I was trying to illustrate to Tim that when Jen tranforms, she goes from something like 5'4" to 6'7". A small women's suit jacket would probably look like a childrens's vest on a gal as big as She-Hulk.

We had some slightly racier rips, tears, and bulges going on, originally. Marvel asked us to tone it down a tad. PRE-DISNEY Marvel.

Truly, we live in an age of wonders.

Love seeing the concepts sketches as well as reading the thought process behind the designs. Thanks for sharing, Adam.

Jennifer Walters! Hadn't seen her in a long time!
She-Hulk's got a swimmer's body. You know, with such powerful upper-body you can feel your teeth getting loose at the sheer idea of a pat on the shoulder from her.
So this would be a sculpture?
It's fun and nice. Really cool.

I have to say, I think my favorite part is the to-do list you included in that first sketch! What's she got to call T. Stark about, huh? Ha.

Absolutely love your work with gray markers, makes me envious every time I see it!

Another proof of your unparalleled skills. I love your drawing, the anatomy, the attention to all the details starting with the proportions and finishing with the muscles and posings. Not to mention the refined shading!
I really like the comparison between Jennifer and her hulkysh alter ego! Beautiful example of both drawing and understanding of the body proportions ( as usual).

Being a girl of 5'4, going to 6'7 would be awesome. But there's one major important factor. Not just her suit.. but those undies she has! BIGGEST PINCH EVAR!

And for sure, she'd bust her bra

I ADORE this

Probably my memory playing tricks on me, but I could swear John Byrne's She-Hulk didn't transform... maybe he had her stuck cuz she looked so good in a business suit with green skin!

AdamHughes In reply to Pat-Strupini [2009-11-25 19:08:01 +0000 UTC]

It's true; but Byrne's She-Hulk was decades ago now.
Both the Hulk and She-Hulk (and to some extent the Thing), go through stages: they can transform, they are stuck in their monster form, they are savage, they are smart.
The statues I design for Sideshow are sort of the iconic versions, from whatever period they are most iconic-y.

You could do a female culturist's body, it would probably look more "hulkie"
That way it just seems she just got laid...

You would think that she would just go to Mr. Fantastic and ask for some clothes that wouldn't rip during the change. I am thinking of a nice unstable molecules Armani suit.

AJsAlterEgo In reply to AdamHughes [2009-11-26 07:53:25 +0000 UTC]

Perhaps its an easy point of reference. I see the same eyes, the same Audrey Hepburn-esque face - same eyes, same nose, same cheekbones, same jawline - hair of course makes it all but underneath what I see ... is a process of comfort? I'm not certain. I hope you take this for a single individual's opinion (i.o.w. not criticizing, ultimately unimportant, wholly subjective and seriously just what I see). Your artwork is amazing, light years beyond anything I myself see for me to achieve... I don't know... when I look at your stuff I'm amazed by it - but I see the same woman staring back at me in every pic... just different personifications of her, if that makes sense? Look for yourself at these things: jaw line, nose (especially the rounded tip and nostril shape), perfect audrey hepburn eyes (mascara, eyelashes all the same, gorgeous! but same), mouths seem to be always same lips top and bottom, height, width, etc. No doubt they make gorgeous models, no doubt that not *every* single picture is like this, but again, I can't help but see different personifications of your avatar. "What if the girl in my avatar was She-Hulk? What if she were Catwoman, etc. I could be wrong and I apologize for taking so much space up on your page with my ramblings.
